  1. I think my '84 was around 55 or 60K miles when I started to get the clutch slip under hard accel in 4th and 5th gear. As I was ready to buy a trailer and install my hitch I went ahead and got the clutch upgrade kit from Skydoc_17. New springs, fiber disks and the full disk to replace the half disk. Not one problem since, pulling the trailer or not. Solid hookup all the way through the gears. Some times it's just ... time.
  2. Not da boss but easy to explain. You'll run across it all the time. When someone is searching the forums or just crusing for info the dates are not relevent. Once someone finds the info they what it pulls up everying in the date files. The info that the searching user ends up with might be today, last week or years ago. I've run across threads were amost every poster was expired. That data resource is what makes it so easy to find information. It's all there, or at least the last several years worth. Glad the site has better memory than I do.
  3. Yep, there ya go. Rather than disassemble everything on the back of the bike you can remove the entire assembly at the sub frame mounting points. Few bolts, unplug some wiring and off it comes. Saves a lot of time.
  4. Nicely put Brad, thanks.
  5. I remember driving around a lot with one hand on the tuner.
  6. I just used: SCI@SIRIUSCONIC.COM ATTN: Martin And he got back to me the next day
  7. I'm not a modern GW guy. So I got to nosing around and found this. So that left me scratching my head on rather it's a SD card or a thumb drive you need for the music. Either way, cheap and easy to find. Even my dealer did not know this. The 2012 Goldwing does not have one SD card, it has TWO! Additionally the obvious SD card you find is NOT the one you use for GPS/Computer updates. The first one is to trade with other riders and their Goldwings travel data etc. It is also used to update travel routes and so forth on your home computer. It is the second SD Card that is needed for actual software and map updates from Garmin. The unit is located in the trunk mounted to the back wall. When you open the cover, you see on the left side the first SD card sticking. What is much harder to see is just below it there is a dark rubber cover seated into the side of the unit. You have to peel back that cover and under it recessed is another SD card. This is the one you need to do any updates from Garmin. You simply plug it in to your home computer or laptop, go to the Garmin website and their website will automatically scan and read the card and look for any updates for your specific bike and unit. In my case, there were none yet. During all this I came across other information that kept telling me the 2012 Goldwing has a BUILT in MP3 or WMV music player. Talking again to the dealer they had me convinced this was NOT the case and that what the instructions were talking about was the ability to PLUG IN an MP3 player via the interface in the front left pocket or USB port in the trunk. Well for some reason I kept having this nagging feeling that just was not correct. Well I was right! The 2012 Golding DOES have a built in and integrated MP3/WMV player. And it is so simply to access it was amazing.. All you need is a memory card/thumb drive. You can buy one for just a few dollars at walmart or any other place. Just copy all your music files to the thumb drive. No special tools needed. Then plug the thumb drive into the USB port in the trunk. Next make sure you have power to the stereo/computer via acc or with the bike running. Hit the AUX button. The display will show AUX. Then hit the AUX button a SECOND time. It will now display USB and the USB symbol will also now display. And automatically your music will start playing and the display will show you the music name file and time and duration of play. Use your normal controls on your panel or on your hand grip assembly to control everything! That simple!
  8. Most SD cards are pretty common. About any Wallyworld, Best Buy, Rat Shack, Target or any other stores that sells electronics carries them. You know the spec of the card you need?
  9. Don't be too surprised when you get that cap off. Pull the seat and remove the fuel sending unit off also to get a good look inside that tank. You said it had been 10 years since the bike was ridden. That adds up to a lot of condensation. Mine had been in a heated garage for 9 years and a little fuel added once in while to start it up. Needless to say, I ended up with rust particals all through the fuel system. Petcock, ALL fuel lines, filters clogged constantly, fuel pump and all carbs. I ended up doing an epoxy reseal on the tank and replaced everything from the petcock to the needles. Just sayin' it's a good place to start before you go to far into carbs if you have any rust issue at all. The outside of mu tank looked like new, the inside...... not so much.
  10. The SD1X4 set is for the diaphragms only, set of four. No sliders. These are the correct ones for the 1st gen both MK1 & MKII
  11. I see you have a game plan already but here is another approach from Dans site. http://lifeisaroad.com/stories/2005/02/05/paintlessDentPulling.html Sounds crazy but is seems to work.

  14. If you are finding enough pinholes to be a concern here is a fix that holds up extremely well. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=71496 Or a dab of the liquid version would patch a larger hole for a temp fix. But if you are dealing with a hole large enough that you're not getting any movement on the slide you are needing to look at replacing that diaphragm. But inspection of the slide for free floating movement would be the first step. Cracks, worn spots, a loose diaphragm or a ridge would prevent the slider from working properly.
