Thanks for the info guys. They sent a repair guy today and it was a different one than usually works here. I'm told he isn't with the company any more. Wonder why? But he found a leak on a valve at the condensor, resealed it and filled the system back up. Rechecked everything and found no other problems. Back to chilly! Of course it's been in the 60's all morning and a nice breeze blowing. Looks like I won't be needing it for a week or so now. Life is cool.... and not so sweaty.

Battery Maintainer vs Battery Charger vs Battery Tender
Snaggletooth replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
I've been running the DEKA ETX18L for going on 5 years. I've never needed to use a Tender on it at all. Even sitting for a couple months the base charge barely drops 2/10th of a volt. AGM batteries are extremely slow to discharge. That said, I ride almost daily with a modified charging system that puts out no less than 14.3 volts at running speed. Now, playing with my Tender Jr. it does charge the AGM at about 14.4 volts then shuts down to about 13.1 volts when the battery is fully charged. Not familiar with what the HF tenders will do. A Tender or HF will take a long time to bring a deeply discharged battery even close to topped off and more than likely it never will. It's not designed for that. But with standard charger the 2 amp setting should show the battery getting at least 14.2 - 14.5 volts during the process. But if the bike is charging at 13.8 or so you are still in good shape. But a 20 minute ride isn't going to be enough to bring the AGM back to fully charged from 70%. If the AGM is dropping volts that fast there are two things to consider. A massive drain on the system when shut off, or the battery is faulty. Go for an over night charge with 2 amps and see how it pans out and let us know. But from my experince with the AGMs, they are a huge improvement over wet cells. More cranking amps, more reliable, and tough as nails, DEKA is one of the best on the market. If it has been that deeply discharged it will take a while to bring it back up, and that is a chance it may not come back to full power.- 18 replies

Got that covered. I change mine every month. ( just checked, swapped it out anyway) Furnace unit was replaced two years ago and increased air flow a huge amount on the second floor, not to mention the operating costs dropped about 30%. This place was built in 1972 with a flat roof. In Nebraska! Go figure. That adds a bunch of heat to the second floor. 4 years ago they redid the roof with the white rubber membrane and that helped a lot with reflecting the heat off. I'll try a higer setting tonight to. Thanks Mike

We had a hot spell here last week and had the old A/C running during the 100 degree temps for a couple days. Thursday night I woke up and it was 85 in the upstairs rooms. Checked the vents and was getting only warm air and didn't feel like much flow. Checked the thermostat and it was set for 70 but the room temp was showing 80. I shut it down and figured I'd call the maintanace guy in the morning. I got ahold of him and told him the problem. Ok, be a few days. Great. Frinday night I decided to try my luck and kicked it back on. Got some cold air, shut down all the lower vents and I was able to get the upstairs bedroom cooled down enough to sleep. By morning it was doing the same thing. Shut it down again. Saturday night I tried the same thing. Got me though the night and back to hot in the AM. So from what little I know I assume the coils are freezing over while running and thawing out when I shut it down. The unit is on the roof of the two story town house so I can't get to the unit to look it over. I fired it up a few hours ago and I'm already getting warm air. So I'm going to be having a talk in the morning with the guy. I'm not going to be too judgemental but I know the help here can be a little ....lacking.... at times. What would be the common cause for this? Low Freon? Compressor failure? I'm just trying to learn what I can so I don't get a run around from the guy. Going to be a muggy night Thanks Mike

Dan! My hero! Good show my friend!

I've been told I have the only hat I'll ever need.

And well deserved! But Brad, problem is, I don't think you have enough heads for all the hats you wear.

I think we could use another award catagory for those that ride to the rescue. Or maybe issue hats?

Well I've always known the answer to that. Because they are not paying attention. But yesterday I ran across the King of Oblivious Drivers. I don't want to, or even hope to run across another one like this again. I had to run to see my daughter yesterday in Lincoln. A 50 mile ride on the bike on Interstate 80. Had finished up there and headed back EB around 6:30 PM. Traffic was not heavy but enough where you had to pay attention at 75 MPH. I saw something unusual on the WB side. Looked to be bright orange lights on the WB side maybe a mile away. Not like flashing emergeny lights but bright and big. As I got closer I could see the light was moving from lane to lane and it was coming WB with traffic. I could make out that the light was low to the ground and pretty intense. I'm thinking I need to upgrade my log lights. But I can see the light was still changing lanes through traffic and moving quite a bit faster than the other vehicles. As I came within the distance where I could make out what it was I saw it was a SUV pulling a trailer. The bright lights..... flames rolling out from under the engine compartment and blowing back along the sides under the passenger compartment. The flames were the entire width of the SUV and all the way back under it. In the few seconds of time were I could look at it the driver was not alone in the vehicle. He had one hand on the wheel and didn't seem concerned at all. I figured he was headed for the next exit just a 1/4 ahead of him. But as I dropped my speed and pulled in to left breakdown lane I saw him move back into the passing lane and keep going on WB past the exit. I sat there looking back at this driver, burning like a bonfire rolling on toward the city limits. What does a guy do? Brain says turn around and chase him down and wave him off the road. Not going to happen with the water still in the center strip and oncoming traffic. Didn't look like anyone on his side was trying to stop home either. I'm only hoping someone was on a cell to get him stopped. How could a driver not notice this? How could anyone else in the vehicle not see something was not right? It had to get getting hot and no doubt they could smell it by then. Clueless. How many people were endangered by this driver? Not only his passengers but those around him in traffic. Those nearby when he does stop? The 1st responders that arrive when it all ended? Oblivious fool. I watched the news last night but doubted if I'd see anything. Have my daughter watching the local news and paper to see if anything shows up. This is the guy that is the one that says "I didn't see them." I do hope it ended well for the man and those with him, or around him. I wish him no harm, but I don't want to be on the road with these people. They scare the crap out of me. So I saw my "Fool for the Day" and hope that covers me for quite a while.

Might have been. He was sitting on somebodies gloves.

Not in your neighborhood but what is the problem you're dealing with? Might be something simpler than you think and we could walk you though it. Mike -
I am impressed with what you guys have done. Very cool.

Re-fueling takes a long time
Snaggletooth replied to soraoka's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You kind of have to figure several things into play. The tank is 5.3 gallons. What is your average MPG and how far have you traveled since the last fill up? Hard fast numbers for ya? Not carved in stone no matter how you look at it. If you're stopping for fuel by the gauge it even gets more cloudy. Too many variables from the accuracy of the gauge. I usually stop around the time the red fuel warning light stops flashing and goes steady. That is roughly between 136 and 160 depending on how I've been riding. That's at the end of the last bar. Most the time between 3.5 and 4 gallons at that point. I have run up to 236 miles on the odo and stopped when my nerves ran out. It took exactly 5 gallons that time. Still had .3 gallons by the book, but how much of that would have drawn from the tank. So I'm pretty much one of the guys that sticks it in and lets it shut off. Maybe give it a squirt or two but I'm not going to fuss over it. Once you get used to the fuel rate being used you'll feel better about how much you jsut put in and how far you can go with it. Mike -
