  1. Some of the older harbor freight MC jack has a back-asswards way to lower it. Lightly touching the release lever makes the jack lower REAL FAST... to lower slowly you have to jam the release lever down all the way. I know it sounds dumb and it is. I think they may have corrected it in the newer models. I also have the Harbor Freight lift and it has worked perfectly for over 2 yrs. I did change to a regular front wheel chock. I also have Center Stand/Scissor Lift that that I bought on Ebay. about $60 if I recall. I use it mostly to just to hold our other bikes upright. One of the best investments I've made. 1100 LB capacity

  5. It's between Sedalia, Kentucky and Dresden, Tennessee which is not far from Dukedom, Ken-Tenn where I used to live. I always thought that I lived out in Podunk but Podunk is actually a few miles to the east.
  6. Maybe we should make it "Required Reading"

  9. Got my fingers crossed for you.
  10. I'm familiar with the fuel issue. It's common with Vstar 1100 also.
  11. I know this sounds simplistic...but have you checked continuity of all the wires and connections. A broken wire will cause the same failure. I wouldn't bite the bullet just yet. If you have hooked up 2 additional igniter units, then that's probly not the problem. It sounds like a bad connection. It's kinda like if a running light don't work and you've changed the bulb, the switch, the socket, the fuse, the battery and it still don't work...maybe you have a broken wire... You mentioned Clymer manual. Here is a link to the factory manual. http://650ccnd.com/webslinger/Mods/Manuals/VSTAR_650_Service_MAN.pdf It's not searchable. You have to use it manually and that's kinda cumbersome. But it's all there. Elect starts at 269, ignition circuit diagram is 274 and the main elect diagram is at 325. I always print my manuals out. It's about 35-40 dollars at Office Depot. I think they can do it using the above link. Heather
  12. Silver T. Pretty bike. Thanks for the info. I'm certain we'll love it...but I'm still hopelessly in love with Big Red, though.

  15. Had an 06 Vstar Classic. It was a great motorcycle. Gas mileage was mostly in the mid 50s. It was also amazingly stable on the interstate at 75. There is a couple of great forums. http://www.650ccnd.com/ http://forums.delphiforums.com/sgmfa/start Here is a link for the Factory service manual http://650ccnd.com/webslinger/Mods/Manuals/VSTAR_650_Service_MAN.pdf

  18. When I replaced the grips on one of our other bikes I forced a long thin screwdriver in between the bar and grip, squirted Windex in next to the screwdriver and kind of worked it around the bar and grip. Then it just slid right off. I have new grips for Big Red but haven't changed them yet. I recommend Windex because it doesn't have a soapy film.
  19. This is what I made to compress the spring and change the thrust washer. *Note: The top and bottom are oak and it is put together with 8@ 2 1/2" coarse thread screws on the top and 8 of them holding the bottom on. That thing has a really big spring and I didn't want the press to come apart! The center member has about an inch a quarter hole in it and acts as a guide to keep the shaft in line and to keep it from "blowing out" of side of the press when under pressure. There is a large hole in the top (can't see it in this pic) that will allowed access to the thrust washer when compressed. If you want more pics and plans let me know. I think I still have the Partzilla packing list of all of the seals, etc that I ordered. I think that order was about $290.00 and another was about $100.00 plus a used transmission that I obtained from Venturous Randy. I spent a lot more on tools, engine stand, chain hoist. (There's nobody around my house that could lift the 230 LB engine.) .
  20. I did the second gear repair on Big Red. My first recomendation is to order this video DVD of 1st gen motor & carb rebuild process purchase info. $20.00 Here is a preview. Heather

  22. Of course it could be a piece of trash in the seat/needle. I have had that. And it could be the oring on the seat. Here's a post about changing the seat and needle that I thought was interesting. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?96821 The 83-85 had different needle/seats than the Mark II. I ran into this same issue on Big Red when I used those kits. I skipped the needle and seats and was lucky. But at close inspection of those replacement seats it appears that they will be slightly shorter in the carb body and will require more adjustment to the tang in order to render the proper float level.
