Blanking Windows 10 Sucks Goodbye I no longer have a computer
yamagrl replied to Yammer Dan's topic in Watering Hole
One of the more important things is for you to regain control of of your Microsoft account. Because you gave them your password they may have already logged in and reset your password so it could prove to be difficult. If you can't regain and you don't have anything tied to your Microsoft account such Credit Cards for purchases or photos and documents stored on Onedrive then let them have it. Start another Microsoft account and reset your computer. It's pretty easy. However, you ultimately will need to upgrade to W10 simply because Microsoft will eventually discontinue support for 7 & 8.1. But there's no time to waste. Windows 10 upgrade free offer expires on the 29th of this month. 7-29-16. That's next Friday. Then you have to buy it. You should also reset ALL PASSWORDS everywhere. -

One other thing. Since you gave them your password you need to sign in to your Microsoft Account and reset your password. You can and probably should do it from a different computer or tablet. -
Blanking Windows 10 Sucks Goodbye I no longer have a computer

Yammer, If it has been less than 30 days it's really easy to go back to your previous operating system. There's several folks on here that can help. Overall Windows 10 is a really great OS. It has it's quirks and there are a few things that even I don't care much for. Rest assured though; your problem doesn't have anything to do with Windows10 or Microsoft. I can't see your computer so I can only speculate about what's going on and I may not be correct anyhow. But... the below information is good information and everyone reading this should add it to their arsenal. This is what I suspect might be going on... How a lot of the ransomware works is the hackers hijacks a usually innocent, unaware website and simply assigns a re-direct. When someone tries to go to that site the newly targeted site simply runs a script such as a Javascript. This script will not allow you to do anything with your computer (or at least it seems that way) unless you comply with it's instructions. A common example of a script that you would be familiar with might be when you are loading new software or signing in to a secure site and you have to accept the agreement or cancel. Until you have either accepted or canceled you can't really do much of anything. Anytime you hit a key you just get a "BOING" sound from your computer. But the ransomware script doesn't have a cancel button so it seems like you can't do anything. The first thing to do if you encounter this is to right-click on the taskbar and open Task Manager. When Task Manager opens you can select web browser you are using and then select "End Task". That will usually kill the script as well. An easier way to do it is to just hold in the power button until it shuts off or simply unplug it. Then turn it back on. If it was in fact a script it won't likely be there when you reboot. I ran into this a while back and right off I recognized it as a script. I reported that one to PC Matic and they told me that this type of thing is really hard for security software companies to protect against because as soon as one is shut off the hackers just commandeer another innocent site. Kind of like a moving target. I have had excellent luck with PC Matic and you can still get the Evergreen plan which is 5 computers for life, any 5. You take one off add another..life means for life. It's not widely advertised but I'm pretty sure it is still available. If anyone wants more info I think I can dig out the link. You should still run Malwarebytes get it here https://www.malwarebytes.com/ and ADWCleaner https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/ Even PC Matic recommends them. Often it seems like a dilemma... you're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't. -

side stand warning icon
yamagrl replied to mike042's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I suspect dirty contacts within the sidestand switch and vibration from riding interferes. The normal condition of the switch on the diagram is sidestand down. There are two sets of contacts in the switch. In the Normal position/sidestand down both sets of contacts are open, which prevents starting in gear and activates the warning icon. When you raise the sidestand both sets are supposed to be closed allowing current on the Green/Blue (G/B) wire and current on the Blue/Yellow (L/Y) wire to find ground through the Black wire. Therefore; if you disconnect the 3-wire connector of the sidestand switch and jumper both the G/B to the Black and jumper the L/Y to the Black you will have fooled the motorcycle into thinking the sidestand is up. Warning it will now start regardless of the position of the sidestand itself. And the sidestand warning Icon will remain off. If the Icon comes on the there is likely a bad connection in the G/B wire between that point and the Computerized monitor Venturous Randy's issue sounds like there is more going on. 83-85 Simplified diagram at roughly the One o'clock position on the diagram 83-85 Wiring diagram at roughly the Seven o'clock position on the diagram -
Shifting problems?
yamagrl replied to BillH's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Condor, Bill states that the shifter won't move without the clutch and he can't upshift without the clutch. It sounds like the clutch is not the hindrance to shifting. That is not to say the clutch doesn't need attention also. What's your take on the linkage, the shiftshaft and the segment and pins? Heather -

Puc has covered most of possible faults that are easily accessible. If you are pretty sure the clutch is functioning properly run through his other suggestions and let us know. Do you have the service manual. Here is a link to the manual http://www.yamahaventure.nl/pdf/servicemanualxvz13tf.pdf -
Shifting problems?
yamagrl replied to BillH's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
It is beginning to sound like the clutch is not the problem. It sounds like the transmission is wanting clutch disengagement in order to shift, which probably indicates resistance within the transmission... perhaps something to do with the shift segment, cam, forks. Off to work for me. Heather -

Shifting problems?
yamagrl replied to BillH's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Is the problem limited to standing still and trying to shift into 1st? Or is the problem the same while rolling? Is it the same up-shifting or down-shifting? The clutch is not needed for shifting up or down while the bike is in motion, even going into neutral and first. Up-shifting would feel pretty much the same with or without the clutch. Down shifting requires a bit of rpm finesse and the clutch tends to smooth out down-shifts. So, if hard shifting is limited to shifting through the gears while standing still, but shifts smoothly while rolling then it could very well be clutch related. Otherwise, it may be more involved. Great V-Max engine rebuild Video - Very Helpful for the Venture too!
yamagrl replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
VanRiver, I figured you were only sharing a great find. I ordered the videos in 2014 when I did the second gear repair to Big Red. During that time I had many lengthy email exchanges with Damon. During one of our exchanges I mentioned concern about reusing the screws for the middle gear that have to be staked, so he me four new ones and would not even accept reimbursement for shipping. I whole heartedly support his endeavor. Had I not have had this great experience I may not have thought anything about the Youtube video. Considering my understanding and respect for Damon I felt that a clear and enlightening response was needed. -

Yes that is Damon Ferraiuolo's video that has been mentioned on this forum many times. I doubt that Damon authorized those uploads. Therefore it might be viewed by some of our more ethical members as an outlaw/counterfeit copy. If you wish to view/use Damon's video and consider yourself honorable and ethical then I'm sure he will send you the videos for $20.00 including shipping for both the engine and carb videos... pennies compared to what we invest our Ventures. His email is Damon_Ferraiuolo@msn.com. I bought the dvds from Damon and have mentioned them in several posts. On 5-7-16 Bluesky posted that he ordered the dvds and there was a delay in Damon getting them out to him so Damon refunded his money and sent the dvds to him for free. Damon is an honorable fellow. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?119186-Bought-Carb-Rebuild-Video-by-Damon-Ferraiuolo Let your conscience be your guide. Heather -
