  1. Yes if it runs buy it now. I just bought a 2000 venture with 8200 miles on it for $8900 and I considered that a great deal.
  2. I think you at least need to make sure they have a cycle license and ask what types of scoots they have experience on. Big difference between a 1300 and a 250. Bob
  3. I just put my new (2000) venture in the garage and started transfering stuff from my 89 venture to find I have more stuff that storage. Does anyone know if there is something like the leather pouches in the front and back on the 1st generation for the 2nd generation bikes? I will need to replace the seat as my better half would like one of the pillow type thrones. Any ideas on where I can find replacement seats? Bob
  4. This seems to be the year of the breakdown for me, so far I have replace the stator and rear wheel bearings on my 89. A couple days ago the bike would not start. Hit the starter and hear the relay pick but the bike does not turn over. Replaced the battery and the same thing. Put the bike in gear, give it a small push, and try it again. Works fine, bike turns over like a champ. Any thoughts on what might be wrong?
  5. Turns out the rear wheel bearing was shot, thanks for all the advice. Should be on the road again in a couple days.
  6. On most of the posting I see US and Canada maps with states colored in. I am assuming these are states traveled but I cannot find how to attach this to my posting.
  7. I guess I never noticed the heat, probably because in Wisconsin we need all the extra heat we can get.
  8. Just check the front brakes and they appear to be dragging slightly. Also notice side side to sidee play in the rear wheel. Anyone know if that is normal?
  9. Great feedback guys, I am going to check the brakes first as there was an accident about 10 miles before I heard the noise the first time and I had to get on the brakes hard. Was riding with my feet on the road pegs so the front brake took most of the load.
  10. Looking for some help with a strange noise I heard this afternoon on the way home from work. It sounded like metal grinding or a bearing spinning. At the same time I heard the noise the bike pulled to the left and slowed down. I did not hear the noise with just the bike running so I think it is coming from the wheels or drive train not the engine. Does anyone know what a failed front wheel bearing might sound like? Any thoughs? I checked the front wheel for side to side play and there was none. I put the bike on the center stand and ran the back wheel up to speed but I could not duplicate the problem. Any and all thoughts would be appreaciated.
  11. Hey thanks for all the great information. It's nice to know that my starting issue is normal. I will probably install the larger cables next winter.
  12. When my 89 is cold the starter cranks just fine. After it is warm the starter turns over very slow, pauses, and then the engine fires and starts. It has been this way ever since I got the bike 7 years ago. I lost the stator on a road trip last year (thanks freebird for the replacement procedure, worked great) so now things like this are getting more of my attention. I would like to pull the starter to test it, can it be done without removing the radiator? Any ideas on why it starts the way it does when it is warm? The battery was new last year and the stator is working fine now. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
