  1. Dragonstorm In your 20s setup there should be an option for sidetone. Make sure that is turned off.
  2. I have a lot of thoughts on this as it has been a rumor. I think there sells in the US has been really slow. The Yamaha dealer that I usually work with has only sold one TC and one Eluder. I can't believe that they will discontinue this model as they have to much money invested in it. If they drop this model I believe they will no longer be in the touring market. Bummer
  3. Just a reference for you. I checked my screws on my 2007 RSV and they are all at about 2 turns out. Starts good, no popping and very good gas mileage.
  4. Thats a good looking bike. I have always liked that color.
  5. Although I don't own this particular bike,Yet, this is very good info. I have to believe other options will present themselves soon.
  6. This is usually a indication that the igniton switch is failing. Turn the key on and off a few times and see if everything turns on. Adding passing lamps and wiring them thru the ignition switch can cause premature failure of the switch. Don't know if you have passing lamps or not.
  7. You should install new oil in both the crankcase and tank. Start the engine and let it idle for several minutes to ensure no air is trapped in pumps or lines. If there was some air trapped it would make some noise but not sure what kind of noise. There is about 1 quart of old oil left in system when oil is changed so air should be minimal. Grinding noise does not sound good. I would talk to dealer service dept about noise so they are aware of it.
  8. This seems to be a common complaint in throttle by wire systems. Once you get use to it I don't think it will be a problem.

At my house it is usually the other way around. Must be doing something wrong.
  10. This is throttle by wire. No cables. Does this happen in both touring and sport modes?
  11. If the engine doesn't turn over at all I would check the kill switch. You may have bumped it to kill position. Happens to me sometimes
  12. Steven G. I agree with your analysis of a possibility of stuck rings. We could also have a problem with carbon around the valve heads and maybe the valve stems. I would encourage the OP to follow your instructions of fogging of the engine. I have never tried Deep Creep to free rings. I usually use Yamaha's ring free or Amsoil's PI. Have had good luck with both of these. The op should do this after he gets his carbs clean.
  13. remove the needle and inspect tip closely. Look for anything abnormal. Also look closely at seat. Make sure float moves freely. When needle is closed you should not be able to blow from gas feed inlet to bowl
  14. I have had backfiring two time. They both happened the first year I had bike. Both times it was fuel related. The first time it was really bad and it would pop all the time and I also had gas coming out vent. I had to turn off gas valve and let bike run tell it stopped. I was afraid it would fill up one of the cyclinders. I took carbs apart and could not find a problem. I put it all back together including checking for a pinched vent line. It ran fine afterwards. There must have been a bit of dirt under the needle and it fell out when I had carbs apart. The second time I had intermittent popping and I resolved this by tapping on carb. I did not have gas coming out of vent this time. When float sticks the carb overfills with gas and floods the cylinder. Excess gas gets into the exhaust pipe and it gets ignited by hot exhaust gases and you have an unwanted explosion.
  15. Couple of things come to mind. Check your choke and make sure when it is pushed all the way in that carb number 4 plunger is in correct position. You can compare number 4 to the other 3 for a reference. The other thing is your float may be getting hung up. May have gotten a little bit of dirt in bowl when you had it apart. You can drain carb using drain screw and tap on side of carb with screw driver handle to see if you can free up float. YOu can also check drain hose in front of air filter housing to see if any gas is leaking out of it. Number 4 carb would leak out opposite side of bike.
  16. I thought that the 85 had the exact same bags as the 84. I don't think Yamaha had horizontal opening bags till 86. Maybe someone has installed 86 and newer bags on the 85 already.
  17. Back to basics. Did you ever do the compression test? Are your plug wires wire and not carbon. I tried carbon wires on my 84 when I had it and it always ran funny. Like it had a miss. When I went back to wire the bike ran fine.
  18. If you are sure it is the starter I would take a hammer and tap very lightly on starter case to see if it would free up.
  19. After 115,000 miles on my RSV i have quite a bit of noise from clutch area. If I pull in the clutch the noise goes away. It is not bearing noise so I really don't worry about it. It may be slop in clutch basket between basket and plates. Other than that clutch is strong and does not slip.
  20. I have had quite a few defective Dunlopes over the years and have never had a problem with Dunlope taking care of a bad tire. Usually I send a picture like you did and whoever I bought the tire from sends that picture to Dunlope and an exchange is ok'ed. Takes about a day. I just put on a Shinko on the front of my RSV and noticed right away that something wasn't right. I jacked bike back up put a piece of wood behind tire and gave it a spin. Didn't take long to find a lump in that tire. I took a video of it and sent it to my supplier and they approved an exchange almost immediatialy. It is a safety thing as far as I am concerned. I think your refund will come quickly. Actually if the company you buy from keeps records of your purchases they should have refunded you right away, no questions asked. Good Luck!
  21. Look at 3m trim and emblem adhesive. I have used this on cars but not motorcycles. Works well on cars for emblems that are falling off.
  22. It may be your tire. I have used a lot of Dunlope tires over the years and have had my share of bad ones. Dunlope has always replaced the bad ones. From not being able to balance them to bad cords. I would get it balanced at a tire store and then try. If it still vibrates you have a bad tire. No experience with tire beads.
