I also installed my cd changer in the trunk. Use it all the time. Mike

As long as you didn't break the speed limit. Mike

Every time I have had this problem (3) it has been the headset. Either a cable or connection. That said it could just as well be a connection under the fairing. The plugs may need to be cleaned, have dielectric grease applied and wiggle tested. Mike

Seems like it was just yesterday. Mike

Welcome to the forum Ron. Enjoy your new ride. Mike

Looks like a standard non-pillowtop passengers back rest. Won't give the same level of support as a set of arm rests from Carbon one. Mike

Very unlikely hitting the rev limiter would damage anything. It is after all there to protect the engine. More likely something else is causing your problems. Your description sounds like fuel starvation. So +1 for the previous suggestions. Are you sure you hit the rev limiter? Is it possible what is causing your problem occurred while you were getting on it? And had a similar sensation to hitting the limiter? Mike

Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on the new bike. Mike

That ride across Nevada on US 50 (The Loneliest Highway in America) is one of the areas where you need to pay attention to your fuel and fill up in Austin whether you need it or not. The next available gas stop may be 100 to 150 plus miles. Especially if you decide to take a little detour and see Sand Mountain up close. Mike

DO NOT USE A SHOP VAC. If you are worried about sparks use a brass punch. For those of you who don't know. Sparks within the fuel tank are extremely unlikely to cause a fire or explosion. Hence electric fuel pumps, electrical connections, fuel gage senders etc are frequently located in the tank. That doesn't mean safety shouldn't be foremost in your mind so use a brass punch. To get the maximum benefit multiple holes should be located around the filler neck. Mike

On my last cross country trip there were a lot of small towns where all of the gas stations were closed and boarded up. In some cases four or five station on one strip. So we ended up with up to 150 miles between gas stops. That's ok if you know about it. But if you were planning on taking on gas and everything is closed and the next town is 50 miles and when you get there everything is closed as happened to us then what? Unless you want to stay on the freeways that's what can happen. Yes having a gas can saved me. I only ran out once but I was well into the reserve on several occasions. So when I got back I punched my tank. That said it only takes a couple of minutes to punch the tank. You are just putting vents in the filler neck to let air from the air pocket escape. If you are going to be making long cross country trips this is a good mod. For around town just fill to the filler neck lip. It's not that complicated. That's the where and the why of it for me. Mike

Good for you Neil. Gets you an extra 15 to 20 miles on a tank of gas. Punching it doesn't spark. The metal is soft enough so even an ice pick will work. The only down side is, if you fill the tank to the brim (remember no air pocket) and immediately let the bike sit in the hot sun expanding gas will be forced out the vent. But on a trip that extra range can be a life saver. Mike

Get a litmus strip at the local auto parts store and do a ph test. If it is good and coolant looks good you can wait. Mike

Hi Chris As mentioned above these bikes can be very oil sensitive. There doesn't seem to be any one cure all either. At one time I switched to Amsoil synthetic. The noise was deafening. I was afraid something was coming apart and I was ruining my gears. So I switched back to Yamalube and after about 1000 miles the noise subsided. A little gear whine is normal. Crying, screeching and screaming gears are not. You may want to experiment a little. Good Luck & Ride Safe Mike

Yes and bouncing down the road like a rubber ball has no effect. Mike -

I don't know why people don't balance motorcycle tires and then are surprised when cupping occurs. Mike -
Good luck. Mike

Something wierd with my engine..

I agree. It sounds like bad gas. Drain some out with the petcock in the reserve position. Also if the plug wire was not connected at the spark plug that plug is probably bad. Mike -

Cost of v-max gear change is around $400 with shipping. Mike

A lot of people do not like Bridgestone but the new Exedra Max tires have multiple rubber compound and are holding up real well. They also come in the right sizes with a choice of tread depth. Just make sure it's the Max tire and not the original equipment Exedra. Mike -
Both gear sets use a ring gear with 33 teeth. The speed sensor counts the teeth on the pinion gear. Even with the gear change it still takes 33 pinion teeth to make the ring gear go around one time. So that is still 33 speed sensor pulses per wheel revolution. So changing to the v-max gear set does not change the speedometer reading in any way. Mike
