I just picked up an 86 Venture Royal.It will turn over and but not start.So far I checked the ignition fuse and it seems good,.According to the schematics it also powers the the cruise wich lights up when bike turned on.I am not hearing the fuel pump chatter i would normally hear. I will check for spark later.Is there a junction in the harness I should be looking for? THe PO said it ran last year. What are peoples thoughts.Battery is good and has lots of juice.

I think there are two sets up pick up points on that bike that control spark.Maybe someone could add to your thoughts.If the pickups were not working( maybe) those two cylinders would not fire. The 83 bikes were the odd ball timing TCI bikes with there exclusive unit. If that checks out, it sounds like a TCI problem.You should see if you could borrow a working unit to find out.

A couple of checks: Are you in gear with the kickstand down.? Have you hit the kill switch?Check solenoid connections.Do you lights dim when you hit the starter button?

Not sure if you can do that.I have not seen the pics.I had to pull my middle gear out to fix the problem.I just bought another one and replaced it.There is no need to split the case.Loosen the pinch bolts and gently pry the middle gear out.Move it side to side but it will come out.Be sure to watch your shim placements too.If the nut and shaft are together snapped off ,you don't have much choice.

I rode a 2008 Vic Vision.I was very impressed on how easy it was to ride.Was not impressed with the way that series of bike dealt with the shifting indicator. You never really knew what gear you were in because it was always suggesting another gear.Those year of bike have a whine in 4th and 6th gear that can be annoying compared to other bikes. I must admit it was a pleasure to ride and was incredibly nimble for a bike of that size.The engine sounds on the bike are not that impressive but that is a subjective comment.I will say it seemed to have endless power and would walk away from my Venture under acceleration with no problem. I am really on the fence on the bike. The CCT tour seems to be the bike in the series to get but I like the Vision styling. That's my two cents.

When you turn it on and hear the clicking see where the gas is leaking from.If the gas comes from the carburetor overflow tubes( bottom of bike) the problem could be in the carbs. Pull the left side plastic engine cover off and find the fuel pump.If you turn the bike on and see fuel dripping from this area, it is the pump or rubber tubes connected to it.I had to replace all my O.E.M. hose clips in the fuel pump area because they all started to leak.The pump is easy to come out and service too.

The shaft will not come out.It is been held in place by the pumpkin.It is a big job to change, but you don't have to pull the engine to do it.I switched out that gear on my 83.Be prepared to put some time in to change it.Read the help files on how to do it.You just need patience.PM me or call me and I can tell you how to do it if you can't get anywhere with it.Ray

I am going to keep it because it it so rare.I tore out the cheesy lighting and installing LED lighting.I will trick it up a little too cause that is what I do.Will post the final product later.Thanks for your help on this guys.

Is there a difference in the trunk reflectors? I have two of them and they are different thicknesses and the reflector setups are different.One is all red in the back and thin, the other is Red in the center and orange on the sides.Will they still work on all the first gen bikes?

Here are a set of rare crash bars that came from an 86 Venture I have that are moving on to a new home.They bolt up to the OEM bolt holes and offer tip over protection. I have not seen a pair like this ever for this year of bike.

My bike was not running that well.I used the Carbtune and got 44 MPG.I only wish my gas gauge was more accurate..

HI Mike The shifter looks good.I found that you had to take off the stator cover and re position the shifter shaft 180 degree's.That is the easiest way.I have the gasket on hand if you want to replace the one I have.You know where I am at. LOL:cool10:

I did the similar lighting mod to my 86 earlier this year.I took apart my rear turn signals as well and added two channel LED. I hooked it up to a Kuryakyn lighting control and modulator.This a great write up. Thanks.

I have an 86 Venture with a fuel leak. After a good ride I came home to a gas smell.I looked all over the bike and noticed a leak at the filter.I turned off the fuel and ran the bike until the carb bowls emptied. I still smell fuel.I pulled the left exhaust pipe and check underneath and looked at the center of the tank.The bottoms seemed moist near the front of the tank.I had to drain the tank, then turn the fuel back on .Then started the bike and ran it dry with the fuel pump starving for fuel. This stopped the smell.Any suggestions? Ray:confused24:

I bought mine on sale last year when it was 69.00.Still a good deal.The rubber pads do come off though.My only complaint.

Take a pic of where the leak is and where the oil drops too.

If you are feeling daring and have the time, switch out your starter to a second gen model.You will be impressed how good the starts are even when hot..
