  1. Bike will need carb work as it has sat several years Nothing wrong with the bike
  2. I tried running Darkside and got the death wobble and totaled the bike. If you do go dark side just be absolutely sure to check your air pressures

Do i get to meet any of you varmints at Sturgis this year?
  4. You got 6 gallons total so you have roughly 40 miles safely
  5. Hey guys! I need to replace my ground cable as it gets corroded really badly after only a month or two. This last time i tried to take it off the battery to clean it it was rust welded to the negative post and i snapped the negative post almost clean off! How have you guys been upgrading your negative cables?
  6. Hey guys! We've had family up here for the last week for the fourth which means lots of tearing it up on my, my brother's and my dad's bikes. I was following my brother in law on my dads 2003 GL1800 and he was on my brother's 89 GL1500 with about 98000 miles. I put the 1800 in 4th gear and rode up ever so casually beside him and he had the GL1500 in 4th as well. We pulled up beside eachother at 55mph and did a 4th gear race. Now mind you, I had myself which is 30lbs more than my brother in law, and my sister in law on the back of the GL1800. We both cracked the throttle and held them til we needed to shift to 5th and I have to say, we were absolutely neck and neck in 4th gear!!! That GL1500 never backed off until we were both at about 95 to a hundred and the 1800 only started to pull away in the higher RPMS. We pulled over and got to talking about how impressive it is that that 89 wing had literally the same amount of acceleration in the same gear at the same speed, and we started speculating the 1800 had longer gears etc. Well one test wasn't enough apparently... We were cruising around on the same bikes later in the day, except I was by myself and he pulls up and says "So do you think, without having Sara on the back, that race would turn out any different?" And I told him I thought it would make a big difference and the only way to tell is to try it again. So we did the same thing... 55mph in 4th gear and I have to tell you, those bikes were absolutely still neck and neck until he hit about 5krpms which was about 4750 on the 1800. What an absolutely impressive beast that old 89 GL is.. Its carbureted, has almost 100,000 miles and the only maintenance that's been done on it recently was new timing belts. We got talking about how underwhelming these new bikes are for the prices you pay for them and I do believe that if I was in 3rd I would have taken him, even if he was in 3rd. At 55mph in 4th gear the GL1800 was at 2750RPMS and the 1500 was at 3000RPMS. So the gears are a little longer in the 1800 and the 1800 also does redline 500RPMS later.. Just interesting stuff!!!
  7. I had the red wire to my hazard switch go bad which caused me not to have turn signals. Check that out if you're still having problems
  8. You are right sir, i was looking at the 1300 manual! Sorry about that!
  9. According to the manual the minimum spec is 149psi and the mac is 199psi give or take. It seems compression is not the issue. Especially since all 4 cylinders are running about the same compression
  10. I wonder if they maybe got their conversion wrong when making the switch from whatever the metric version of pounds per square inch. I'm at work so i don't have the time to convert the numbers or even look it up in the book until later
  11. I guess it doesn't concern Yamaha or Ventures. Still interesting stuff however
  12. I saw that on some of your pictures! Hows the bike running and how is that new job treating you?
  13. 27 of them? By a dealership? I find that hard to believe as dealerships make 100 an hour so they couldn't have screwed up! (Sarcasm alert) well I'm glad they at least got them on good enough that the wheel didn't become one of those automatic assault rifles shootin lead everywhere! They would probably be trying to ban it! That definitely makes me feel better about using 3 and 1/4 ounces thanks Puc and thanks for the YouTube video about balancing tires. You ought to charge for all those lessons! Now get out there and "clean them carbon deposits" on your girls. That oughta take care of that need for speed!
  14. Don't the old school boys call that "blowin the cobwebs out"?? Plus i don't know how well the police are gonna like Luv doing 125 on that venture. Especially when they ask him why he was speeding and he replies with, "well sir, I'm Just cleaning out my carbon deposits"!! Kinda neat that your dads a cop, my old man's one too!
  15. The MKIIs don't have the YICS box right?
  16. And thank you @videoarizona for finding that!
  17. Could running seafoam through the intake ports get rid of some of that carbonation? Or even pouring some down the intake side of the carbs.
  18. Okay okay i got ya. You had me nervous with your famous last words. I almost thought my phone was gonna blow up But i see What youre saying. You actually lay your legs straight out across the top of the crash bars. That does look pretty cosy... Im just afraid of melting in the rain!
  19. At this time @cowpuc the picture won't load? Anyone else not able to see it?
  20. I always appreciate someone deciding they want to do something and then going out and doing it! Good on ya!!
  21. I was told that over cranking would wash away the oil on the rings and possibly lower compression, but i would assume higher compression is from carbon on pistons and valves
  22. Hey guys, just read this on facebook and I dont have any real good way of sharing it there but I found this on the Yamaha Royal Star Venture Royal Star Tour Deluxe page on Facebook. I'm just copying and pasting Just passing on this info due to you probably receiving false or misleading info from the media: Harley-Davidson of Bloomington 9 hrs · There has been a lot of fake and mistaken accusations concerning HD in the news the past couple of days. Here is the truth, if you are interested in the truth. Harley-Davidson's Message to its dealers. Dear Dealers: I’d like to take this opportunity to give you some additional perspective on our response to the tariffs being imposed by the EU and clarify some inaccuracies that have been reported in the media. For the detail on our decision I encourage you to read the announcement we shared yesterday here on H-Dnet. You can find a link below. *****************************************************************************To clarify, we are not moving our Kansas City production to Thailand. Our Kansas City plant is being consolidated into our state-of-the art plant in York, PA. This decision was based on our need to address excess capacity we have in the U.S. Harley-Davidson motorcycles sold in the U.S. will continue to be made in the U.S. Harley-Davidson motorcycles will not be imported into the U.S. from international facilities. ***************************************************************************** On June 22, 2018, the European Union enacted tariffs on various U.S. manufactured products including Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The increased EU tariff from 6% to 31% results in an incremental cost of approximately $2,200 per average motorcycle exported from the U.S. to the EU. We do not feel it is acceptable to pass that additional cost on to our dealers or the retail customer and therefore have chosen to take the actions outlined in our 8-k. As we’ve said before, increasing international production to alleviate the EU tariff burden is not our preference, and we are hopeful the EU governments will continue to work to reach an agreement on trade issues and rescind these tariffs, so we do not have to take these extraordinary steps. This decision was made after very carefully weighing our options and choosing the best decision for our riders, our dealers, our business and brand. As a dealer you are among the greatest advocates for Harley-Davidson. And I share this clarification with you because you can help relay our position and our intention when you’re asked about it, from your customers, your teams, your friends and family. It’s unfortunate that the real facts are not always reported on, and it’s important to us that you know and understand the facts. Thank you for your continued commitment to our great brand. Regards, Dave Cotteleer VP and Managing Director, U.S. Sales
  23. Hey guys, Got the motion pro bead pro tire spoons in the mail the other day and finally got to try them on that old Elite 4 on the front. What an awesome set of spoons! It took ten minutes to have the tire off and on the second time... I say second time because I put the tire on backwards the first time..... Anyways went with the sticky 1/4 ounce weights and balanced out the tire. I made sure to line the mark up with the valve stem, but it took 3 and 1/4 ounce of weight to balance out. Thats 6 weights on the road side and 7 on the curb side. They're pretty close to the valve stem as well, which I guess would make sense because that would be the lightest part of the rim, and I can run 100mph smilin at the camera with a toothpick in my mouth and you can still read the brand of Cigerettes that I've got tucked in my T-Shirt sleeve , but DANG doesn't 3 and 1/4 ounce seem like a lot of weight?
  24. Have you checked the float levels on the carbs at all?
  25. Heres what I'd do. Take a Bic lighter and run it around anywhere on the exhaust that there could possibly be a leak and go real, real slow. Check where the headers go into the motor, and check where your slip on exhaust goes on. Go real, real slow and if you see a draft moving the flame, well there's where you're getting air into the exhaust. I also believe these exhausts have a drain hole on each side to let out accumulated moisture. I'll go check in a second, but if those drain holes are rusted out to bigger than what they should be then you can assume your exhaust is sucking too much cold air and causing backfiring and popping and blubbing. That's what it sounded like to me, but of course I am NOOO expert! I only know what I know from the fellas here!
