  1. So...for those that want the abbreviated version of what Carl posted.... We met in Paris, took back roads to Hamilton and stopped for a short break. Carl tried flirting with some girls (that must have been 50+ years younger than him) who looked at him then ignored him. Rode along Ridge Rd, down/up/down/up the escarpment (I think he was lost but wouldn't admit to it). Stopped for gelato (he made me pay). Rode along the canal and river....he mentioned stopping for lunch (but of course didn't offer to buy considering I paid for gelato).... Then we went to his place where the highlight of my day was saying hello to Marca. Still....was a very good day !
  2. He did manage to find a fresh tar/gravel road.
  3. One? No....he found a couple. I learned from the first one. We made the turn, I saw the dead end sign and stopped. Let him know on the cb that it was a dead end but you know Carl....he kept going, saying he wanted to make sure it was a dead end. I turned around in a driveway and waited for him to come back.
  4. Went on a great ride with Carl today...Paris to Hamilton, Grimsby, St. Catherines, Welland.... Wish others could have joined us. Weather was perfect and Carl had great company..... ME !!!! Carl as leader of the "group", me as the usual tail gunner....
  5. Thursday or Friday is a possibility. Lets see what response we get from others that indicated interest on which day is more available.
  6. How does Friday July 23 look ? Weather forecast looks good
  7. Hopefully get a ride together next week if the weather cooperates. I'll post here when things firm up.
  8. With Ontario going to the next stage of opening...it's been quite a while since the Ontario group has been able to get together. Wondering if anyone is open to getting together for a ride. I have the first 3 weeks of July off work and received both doses of Moderna. My time is flexible for when (or multiple days) so let's hear from those interested. Destination/route : undecided Date : undecided Ride leader : undecided (hoping for Carl) Tail gunner : me (as usual)
  9. I bought the Yamaha gas cap cover but use a fishing lead with it. I made a small hole in the gas cap cover, fed the fishing lead thru it, under the plastic cover (on 2nd gen) and looped it around one of the supports under the plastic cover. I'll never lose the cover this way either by forgetting it at the gas station or while riding.
  10. Ben....your wife would see how many times you visit Carl !
  11. Nice looking bike. Dealer pics are nice with the background. You'll do fine with the Venture. Just keep in mind it is a bit top heavy until you get used to it but once you are used to it you'll argue that it isn't top heavy. As Freebird said...easy going group here. Lots of maintenance and upgrade info in the technical and read only sections. Enjoy the ride !
  12. Several members have commented on Sonny before. The guy is a real piece of work if you ask me.
  13. Some options for canisters and bladders - https://adventuremotorcycle.com/gear/motorcycle-auxiliary-fuel-tanks These ones are shaped to fit inside your saddlebags - https://www.reda.co/reda-gas-can Good comparison of the different types here - https://www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycles/shopping-guides/how-to-carry-extra-fuel-on-a-motorcycle
  14. The picture isn't what is centuries old.
  15. No matter whether it is a 2 lane road or 4 lane....OWN THE LANE. 2 lane road turning right...stay toward the left so people don't go around you 2 lane road turning left....more about 1/3 to 1/2 in from the centre lane 4 lane road turning right.... right lane but on the left side of the lane 4 lane road turning left.... right side of the left lane And in all cases....flash your brakes to make sure people coming up behind you see you....and watch your back. Turn signal on at a reasonably early time and begin slowing down. If someone is behind me or coming towards me and indicating they are turning in front of me I'll also give a hand signal (turn signal, not finger). Rear enders aren't that common but they do happen. As with riding anywhere, be aware of your surroundings, have an escape plan/route ready to engage. Geez....I'm starting to give longer responses than Carl !
  16. Subscribed even though my membership expires in June. Order 299. I don't want to miss out on the fun !
  17. 6250 miles on it...basically has had one oil change. When new this bike sold for around $18,000. I see it has the passing lights and trunk rack...not much has been done to it so hasn't been messed with. $6500 - sounds like a good deal to me. Run carb cleaner thru it (Seafoam is good)... because of the age of the tires (probably original) you'll want to change them, oil and coolant obviously... My ride is a 2009 with over 100,000km on it. No issues. The gear whine that was mentioned is due to straight cut gears and seem to be pre-2009 models. For the 2009 year they changed the clutch basket (think it is a "H" basket) and on mine there is no whine. If you've been reading the posts here (there is a "known issues" thread) you'll see that there were very few issues with the 2nd Gen Venture. Very little to maintain and these bikes like the higher RPM's so don't be afraid to take it up to the 6,200 rpm rev limiter - just hang on ! For the price and mileage you would be getting a new bike. Since it has been listed a while you can probably talk them down on the price but that mileage and condition for $6500 it is a good deal.
  18. In the read only section there is a write up on repairing the tabs on the chrome windscreen trim. I did it to mine and worked out better than new. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll post a link. Found it.... https://www.venturerider.org/forum/topic/85-repair-of-chrome-windshield-trim/?tab=comments#comment-305
  19. Was fun working on the two bikes at the same time. Made it easier comparing how to take certain parts off and how to put them on....routing cables and hoses.... finding "missing" pipe clamps that found places to hide... Carl as supervisor and advisor... Pic of bike stripped down and almost all the parts taken off... then not even a single extra bolt....and the bike back together and running.
  20. Carl's garage...Carl was the boss. But only inside the shop !
  21. I added a usb charging port in my trunk. I have a 6 gang fuse block under the passenger back rest (there is a hollow area there). This goes to the battery terminals. For the USB port I use the running lights to enable a relay so that the usb port is powered when the bike is running. I figured the trunk was watertight so if I'm riding and recharging my phone or other device it is out of the elements.
