Locate the gear selector switch. Unplug the switch and hook up an ohm meter on the lowest scale and check the resistance to ground in fifth you should see zero ohms to ground, and infinity in any other gear. The other wire on that switch is your neutral indicator, both contacts have a common ground to them. An alternative method, with the key on run, and switch disconnected, jumper each of the contacts going into the main harness to ground. If the bulbs are good, they will light up when you apply ground...

four brush starter

Yes! Also, the VMax had 4 brush but anything VMax costs more... -
Page 8-3 shows you the various connectors and wire colors... http://www.venturerider.org/wiring/99-09%20Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Venture%20electrical%20info.pdf And here's the wiring diagram... http://www.venturerider.org/wiring/99-09%20Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Venture%20Wiring%20Diagram%20Rev%20B.pdf As you can see, the neutral light gets its ground via the neutral switch Blue/Green wire which actually comes from the Sky Blue wire on the switch plug (The other side of the dual switch is ground) through the diode array inside the Starting Circuit Cut-off Relay. On the same plug is the White/Green wire which on the switch side of the is the Blue/Green wire from the switch, and is the 5th gear (OD) indicator switch! Strange, huh?!!? That dual gear indicator uses a common ground to turn on the light for neutral, and also for OD gear! The starting circuit cut-off relay needs that neutral ground to operate, or it needs ground from the kickstand-up switch Blue/White wire, through the dioide assembly AND through the clutch squeezed contacts which disconnects 12 volts from one side of the diode (Which comes through the coil of the cut-off relay via the Black/Yellow wire) and supplies ground instead to the cut-off relay through the Blue/White line. Now, if the diode assembly associated with the side-stand switch is defective, the only way the bike will start is if the bike is in neutral. It will not start in gear with the kickstand up and the clutch depressed!! Now, to the real nitty gritty!! If you follow that Blue/Yellow wire over to the ignition switch, you will find that, with the ignition on, it becomes the Blue/Black line to the Ignitor unit!! In neutral a ground for the ignitor is supplied from the neutral switch via the Blue/Green to the Sky Blue. With the kickstand up, the ground is supplied via the diode assembly when you go into gear. So, once again I'm beginning to think your issue may be the diode assembly! Hope this points you in the right direction...

four brush starter
bongobobny replied to Shadetree's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Any starter from a 2nd gen Venture will fit! You should be able to pick up a good used one on Fleabay for around $60 and then pick up a brand new set of brushes and install them, you will then have in essence a new starter! Starters do not fail very often, almost never... -
From the title, I was expecting a story about the cops and a tweaker! Yes, it is good to hear there are indeed some good dealers out there to counteract the sleazeballs out there!!

Well, yes, technically you are right! I was thinking/associating with a power plant where a turbine drives a shaft which uses a 3 phase winding to "Generate" AC power... https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=A0LEVr3EII1ZLUYA_W4PxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByMjB0aG5zBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?qid=20110420133148AAim5Us However, with Automobiles, the old and extinct Generators had a DC output via an assembly known as the "slip ring" assembly, but even then, the primary voltage generated by the coil and magnet configuration is AC before it is converted to DC. Alternators used a "diode bridge" built into the AC Generator to convert it into DC instead of the slip ring on alternators. The main principle is if you rotate a coil within a magnet, or rotate the magnet around a fixed coil, AC voltage is "Generated."

That Kawa looks great but I would not to ride on tires THAT old! As far as baking the TCI, ideally you bake it at 250 degrees for an hour or so because water turns into gas at 212 degrees...

Well, Stan, if there ever was a good reason to have one next year, that would be the best one!! We would love to have you here!! Getting back to the essential oils sales party, I talked to Frogger tonight, and it will be held Saturday around 2:30. Hopefully, I will have a link to the product line soon so you can get a preview. I am highly interested myself as Motorcycle Tom and I suffer from some of the same health issues and one of the products has a very positive effect on him and I want to try the same and see if it helps me out! Also, Yesterday I found something out that I never knew existed, there is a Winery literally 5 to 10 minutes away from here! Here's a link... http://www.savagewinery.com/savage-farm-winery-home.html You may want to check them out Friday or Saturday! Finally, there has been a change of plans concerning the Thursday dinner run!! We will NOT be going to East Eden Tavern but instead, we may go to the newly reopened Holland Hotel!! This place is only 10 to 15 minutes away! I will have more information within the next day or two! Speaking of eating, in the next couple of days I will try to have a little better information on other places to eat close by for those that may want an alternative or may want to have a breakfast or lunch close by. Stay tuned!!!

Wish I could give her a big hug...

Must have been fat fingers!! It is fixed to read 6:00. Well, awards for furthest traveled, best costume, etc... Besides "Awards Dinner" sounds better than Raffle Dinner!!

You will find it on your member profile page in a link. For some reason, when I paste the link on the reply it shows up, but when I post the reply the number disappears from the link. Just look at your profile page and you will see a link a little over halfway down...

There is also one oddball problem that sometimes happens. There are two vent lines for the carburetors, each one vents two of them. Sometimes an insect will crawl into one of these hoses and make a nest. What happens is your fuel bowl is empty, and as it fills with gas the air can not get out the vent hose so the bowl never fills up with gas and the bike only runs on 2 cylinders. I am not sure this would affect the vacuum, though, as air is still being sucked thru the carb as normal but no gas is getting sucked into the engine. Anyway, blow through these two hoses to make sure they are not clogged! I agree with Carl, you DID say it ran fine after replacing the carbs, but hey, you never know! You may indeed have some plugged jets! Hope you get it fixed before the Rally as I/we are looking forward to seeing you there! Hey, worst case scenario you cage it up, won't be the first time someone has done this...

Hey, everybody, time is getting even closer!! Time to sign up and join us again this year!! Another surprise is that we will be having an "Essential Oils" sales party on one of the afternoons. Frogger will be hosting this, the details will be posted soon. I know I for one am actually interested in this...
-
Hmmm, had the carbs off... The first thing that comes to mind is that one or more carbs are not properly seated. The second thing to come to mind is a vacuum hose not connected...

Their shipping was very prompt as I had the connectors in a couple of days! Now if I can just get the weather and life events to align... -
I think so, Jack, but only after the great crash. If you go to the member's profile you will find a link to "this page" with a number on it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/member.php?43-bongobobny As you can see, my member number is 43, meaning AFTER the great crash of '06 I was the 43rd member to rejoin. In reality, I didn't join until '05, whereas if I recall right, you were already a member before me when I first joined...

1990 Royale air questions
bongobobny replied to Venturelowrider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yup! Even with progressives, you need just a little air pressure in the shocks to help keep the hydraulic fluid from foaming and affecting performance once heated up and moving...
