  1. Maybe check with Freebird, he did some research and was going to do it to his 2nd gen before he betrayed us...
  2. Not really, it says 6 gal! The vent is at the very top of the tank. Many of us here on the site have done this mod with no ill effects. The opening of the gas tank is slightly below where the vent is... Edit: I notice you have an RSTD, the tank may be a little different...
  3. Yup, what ACE said! Also, when filling, you will discover that when you are up at the top, if you wait a few seconds air bubbles will appear and the level will go down. If you take a punch and punch a couple of vent holes in the neck you can fill it up fuller faster...
  4. Well heck, if he want's it to move he has to take it off the centerstand first...
  5. Unless you swap out the rear end for a VMax rear end, 5th gear is useless under 100KPH. These engines thrive on higher RPM's!
  6. What Goose said! Also, how's the condition of the air filters? Any vacuum leaks??
  7. Yes, you are right Kat, they run like crap without the air cleaner on AND the top secured. They get too much air...
  8. What Dan said about the level! Also, there is a teeny tiny hole for pressure relief in the bottom of the reservoir that gets plugged up and that can keep the brake on. There are other reasons as well...
  9. Yes the heads can be removed with engine still in bike, but it's not the easiest thing to do. The rear head is more difficult than the front. In the long run it's easier to pull the engine first. Where do you have the oil level?? You should be 1/2 way up the sight glass when cool and level. Any more than that and it will throw oil out...
  10. Yet another vote for gunk'ed up piston ring! It's not totally out of the question for a head gasket to blow but not that likely. Shoot some marvel mystery oil , about a teaspoon or less, down each cylinder and let it soak a day or two. With all plugs out crank it over a couple of times. Have some absorbent towels in each plug hole. Put fresh plugs, NGK's work best, and fire it up and drive it like ya stole it. These engines thrive on higher RPM's. Do this along with the Seafoam in the oil as Marcarl suggested. Change the oil and do a compression test and get back to us PS Welcome aboard!!
  11. Brmmmm Brrrmmmmmmm!!
  12. Not before a couple of gully washer rains will I take mine out, I don't like salt...
  13. Evan, follow the clues!! Look in the van for a charger, or another "Lost" item... Puc, yes I do remember that movie moment very vividly, sometimes the story of my life... OK stay tuned for a happier note! (I vote for A 440)
  14. Yup, which makes them a reasonable choice, only slightly over carbeureted...
  15. OK the 5 seconds is arbitrary. Last I checked, a couple of years ago the relays were still available, but if I recall they were around $150. Inside the relay box is a circuit that times out until you get ignition pulses and I'm pretty sure it relies on what is known as a RC time constant which is a property of resistance and capacitance, and with time they can change. If the Fleabay relay is cheap enough it may be worth your while to take a gamble on it as opposed to the cost and availability of a new one. As far as the socket goes, contact cleaner is about all you can do for it besides cleaning the relay contacts. You could try ever so slightly twisting the contacts to improve connectivity but only by a couple of degrees. When is the last time you changed the fuel filter??? Also you should not hear clicking from the relay itself, only the fuel pump. The relay will only click once when you turn the key on, and one time more when spark is detected. Once energized it stays energized until you turn the key off...
  16. Uhhh, guys, this thread is from 2010, four years old...
  17. Sincerest condolences my friend, and prayers for you and yours.
  18. Hmmmm, love to see pictures of THAT!!
  19. ***sigh*** It's been a looooong winter...
  20. Great!! Now if we could just get some warmer weather so we can ride...
  21. Cool beans Dano!! Had one or two a couple of years ago but cleared out the shed a while ago, gave it all away!
  22. Yup! I've yet to find another website with Soul such as this one does either!!
  23. 240ci is a bit bigger than 1300cc! Also, regardless of carb size you are still going to be throttled down (orifaced) by the diameter of the intake on top of the manifold. As stated in the ad, this setup is a quick reliable fix for our complicated 4 carburetor setup but it will not perform quite as well as a properly serviced and set up stock system, but will be a lot more maintenance free...
  24. Here ya go, pick one... http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=%28RSV%2C+%22Royal+Star+Venture%22%2C+Venture%2C+%22Venture+Royale%22%2C+RSTD%2C+%22Royal+Star+Tour+Deluxe%22%29+-Aprilla+-Chevrolet+-Chevy+-Aprilia&_sop=1&_osacat=35559&_armrs=1&_vxp=mtr&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xtrunk+rack+%28RSV%2C+%22Royal+Star+Venture%22%2C+Venture%2C+%22Venture+Royale%22%2C+RSTD%2C+%22Royal+&_nkw=trunk+rack+%28RSV%2C+%22Royal+Star+Venture%22%2C+Venture%2C+%22Venture+Royale%22%2C+RSTD%2C+%22Royal+Star+Tour+Deluxe%22%29+-Aprilla+-Chevrolet+-Chevy+-Aprilia&_sacat=35559&_from=R40 Sorry I couldn't narrow the search any closer...
  25. Hey! I resemble that remark...
