  1. Do a fluid change on the clutch, matter of fact, do it on all the brakes as well. If the problem persists get with Skydoc 17 and do a clutch upgrade....
  2. I can tell you that I WONT do that again. Thats was one of the biggest pita's I ever did. I was amazed that the Ft. Collins rally went as well as it did. I can handle doing one in Texas as I can go and scout things out. If we decide that we want to do an earlier rally, like end of April beginning of May, I might jump into the abyss again.
  3. Yeah I know this is the watering hole, but some 2nd genners may have this.... I am looking for a set of Progressive front fork springs for the '83 I have in the stable. I know that I can go buy a set for about $90 delivered, but I figured if one of the members here had a set they didn't, or aren't going to use, and I can save a few bucks in the process then that would be a good thing. If anyone has a set they want to part with shoot me a PM and we can chat
  4. You folks are so excitable with these things!
  5. Yes they are, and you'll love them
  6. Paul, So sorry to hear of your friends passing, I know all too well what your going through just loosing Gunboat several weeks ago. I wish you the best in your healing, you have my # if there is anything I can help you with....
  7. I wouldn't hazard to guess, but it doesn't sound good. The motor will start and run though? Unless something in the clutch system went, I can't imagine you scattering all the gears in the transmission all at once, but there is a 1st time. Drain the oil and see if there is a lot of metal shavings that come out. If there is, I would probably start to look for another engine. If thats the case, and you want to install another engine in your bike, I have an '85 parts bike with a complete engine in it.
  8. Jeff, When you retire maybe you can look into moving to that area of the country
  9. I dug this thread back up as today I finally said I am going to get this '86 back together. I did just that, but with sorry results. I can say, that right now, I will not recommend a Ricks Hot Shot stator to you folks here. I sent the old one back, the one that grounded out to the case and didn't work properly. I will say this for Ricks, they gave me zero issues with sending it back. Unfortunately they did not fix the issue as I received the same stator back with them stating that they fixed it....their fix didnt work. Like a dumb arse I didn't bother to check the leads before I reinstalled the cover and all. Got it all hooked up, new battery installed and connected and fired it up....nothing, the same grounding issue as the last time. I was not happy and made Italians proud of some of the curse words I used. I have an '85 parts bike here and pulled the side cover off it after I checked to be sure that it's stator wasn't grounded to the case, it wasn't, so I installed it on the '86 and guess what...it pushed out 13.6 volts. This is a bike (the '85) that has been sitting for god knows how many years and it's on my '86 now charging it. I am done with Ricks Motorsports, I dont know if it was a lack of communication on my behalf, or they had someone say that it was fixed and didn't know what they were doing, but I can't afford these kinds of mistakes. I also received the wrong R/R the 1st time and they did end up sending me the right one when they sent the stator back to me. I am more than likely going to get with Rick H at Buckeye and see about getting one of his stators. I have installed them before and the one thing I didn't like was the wires coming through the case block were too small and they leaked on 2 of the bikes I installed them on. I'll be sure to remedy that before I install it on the bike. So there you have it, I want to let y'all know to use Ricks Motorsport at your own risk. I wont recommend them as there have been too many issues with myself and I just have lost faith in them and their ability to get this right....
  10. The international rallys started in '07 when I hosted the Ft. Collins Colorado one. '08 was in Kitchener Ontario Canada. '09 was down in Arkansas at The Hub. '10 was the 5th anniversary back at Potato Creek south of Southbend Indiana, '11 was Cody Wyoming, '12 was Western New York and now '13 was Galena Illinois. The reasons that the rallys are predominantly held in late July early August is folks with kids don't have to worry about their youngun's being in school. The weather is in a fairly stable mode for most of the country. It's tough having a rally in the south during the summer for obvious reasons. I would LOVE to host a rally here in Texas, there are some great roads to ride in the Texas hill country, the 3 sisters to name one, or 3 such as it is. Only problem is were in triple digits right now and folk from the North would cook as you just dont immediately get used to this heat. Personally, I would love to see one in Tennessee Eastern TN is beautiful, but so is the West side of the state. Kentucky as well, I know there are some great well kept secret roads there. Like mentioned, someone has to step up and fill some very big shoes. It is a huge undertaking and you need a group that can work well together. It's not for the faint of heart and you will beat your head on a wall from time to time. In the end, when you see the smiles on everyones faces, and hear the stories, thats the pay off. So who is willing to fill those shoes for the next one....
  11. Rex, Are you trying to load them from a host like photo bucket, or with the websites software? If you want you can PM me and I'll walk you through how to load them on the site, or you can email them to me and I'll install them in your thread here.
  12. Avon Venom X
  13. Just like Jeff mentioned EBC HH pads. The rear ones you dont have to take the caliper off, although you may want to being your 1st time playing with it. The front have to come off, but it's not bad. If you run into problems of have any questions my # is in my profile, good luck with getting after it
  14. Mike, Larry was at the International Rally in Galena and I'll bet is still not home yet. He will answer you as soon as he makes it home, I am certain of that...
  15. You mention that you replaced plugs and wires, did you also replace the spark plug caps? There is a small resistor in them that gets corroded and can cause a lot of grief. Also too, the pick up coils are in the stator case and could also be a culprit (there are 2 of them in the '84) There is a 6 wire connector on the left side of the bike that hooks the coils into the wiring harness. Check that for issues, my '86 had a bad set of pick up coils and it would cause 1 of the coils to not fire due to bad wire connections.
  16. Happy Birthday Patti!!!!
  17. I have had that happen in the dark one morning with 3 of them while I was going to work when we lived in Michigan. Like mentioned, happens so fast you can't hardly react. Definitely a butt pucker moment, glad it was a good miss for y'all
  18. Happy Birthday Buddy!!!
  19. All the items Larry makes are top notch, he is a fantastic fabricator and his items show that. I have known Larry for the better part of 8 years and he's a great guy as well
  20. Congrats to 313 Omer, enjoy that new trailer!
  21. The bleeders are 8mm, as mentioned tap squarely on the top of the bleeders in a downward stroke with a small hammer. I would use a 6 point socket and ratchet and work it back and forth. I have had the same issue on several bikes like that, it will come loose with some patience. After you get them out, run a drill bit down the bleeder hole to clean it all and wire wheel them clean. I also wrap them with some teflon tape to help seal them for bleeding and to make it easier to remove next time.
  22. I have a '99 starter on my '86 Herb, works great. Do you have the upgraded starter cables on your '86? That make a big difference in getting enough power down to the starter.
  23. I'm with MikeWa on this one, any decent bike shop will have an arbor press and could straiten it out....I know I could with my hyd press at work.
  24. Pete, If your going to go that route, make sure as Carl mentioned that the fluid your going to use is compatible with the oring material that is in the components. Buna, nitrile, viton all have different characteristics and some fluid will attack and degrade them. Best bet, and easiest to do, is a fluid change every year. I do it on all my bikes, and can have all the systems flushed with new fluid in 30 minutes or less. I know your wanting less maintenance, but motorcycles just dont work the same way as an automobile, and contrary to popular belief, auto's have a scheduled maintenance on the brake system fluids....
