  1. Annie and Al, hope your train trip was great. We are out of town until later this evening. Do you have a cell no or email address for connecting later this evening or in the morning? Our home no is 416 368 8668 and my cell is 416 459 6119.
  2. Hope you enjoyed good weather on your cruise, as the scenery is fabulous. Happy belated birthday to Alan. See you in Toronto. Our home phone no is 416 368 8668. We will be at a family event most of Saturday.
  3. Yup, our plan is to meet with Annie and Quickstep in Toronto, and get them to the event.
  4. Nothing like going home, and I know you have some beautiful country in your area. In fact, we have some great memories from our ride with you to Tofino - from your venture riding buddy in downtown Toronto!
  5. Looking forward to seeing you and Alan again this time when you are in Toronto. The Knight's Inn where you are staying here in Toronto is only a short walk from our place, as is Union Station where your train will arrive. Hopefully, we can meet you at the station. I see others including Marcarl and Saddlebum are suggesting a Meet and Greet, which is great. If others want the M & G here in Toronto, we may be able to use our rooftop deck and BBQ for the party, but we will go wherever works best for others and we should be able to get you and Alan there in our vehicle. Cheers!
  6. Yes, once again, it was a great event - and a big thanks to Carl and Marca for making this happen. Here are just a few pics:
  7. Larry, I may be a bit late but want to add my own congrats. I have always been impressed with the care that Joyce shows for you. Wish both of you are able to create many more good memories together.
  8. While I have enjoyed the socializing, I have also enjoyed the themes (50's and 60's for example). I think the setting and facilities made possible by Pioneer including the outdoor stage contribute to doing something. However, I do agree that most attending are more likely to be spectators to your good entertainment than Elvis impersonators.
  9. Love stories like yours. Looks like a gorgeous bike and a great find.
  10. What an amazing bunch of guys.
  11. Trials and tribulations of marriage. They come in many ways.
  12. So sorry for the damage to both you and your 1st gen. Amazed you were able to continue your ride to work. Good luck with your healing. It's fascinating to learn that the burn was from inside your riding jacket.
  13. My wife thought that I might be interested in this bike trailer design so she took these pictures:
  14. Yup. Believe I inserted a thin steel plate about 5 years ago and it is still working well.
  15. Rode home with the Ontario gang. Big thanks to the WNY gang on another great rally. So glad I was able to make it again this year. Special thanks to uncledj (John and Lisa) for first class accommodations.

Wow. Really appreciate your post and it is so bad to hear of your accident that was beyond your control but so good to hear that you are recovering. My own 88 VR that I liked so much was recently written off by the insurance co so I have much empathy. I also think every day about how fortunate I was as it could have been much worse for me. Wishing you both the best possible recovery.
  17. Hope your trip is great so far. Big rain here last night after hot weekend. I stopped at your place Thurs to wish you well in person but missed you.
  18. Yes, that is what this one has. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Every morning, I feel that I've got you beat Jack, but I am not there yet. Attitude also matters. Just two days ago, I had to take my mother to a dentist appointment (she's 90) and when she asked if we could go on the bike, I had to say no to her.
  21. Interesting comments. Again, just thinking, and it started when I ran across a guy that I really connected with, who has it for sale. Like me, he has been riding for over 50 years and he is a member of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Club. His current problem, like mine, is aging parents. What got me a bit more interested is that the few goodies on the bike address some of the concerns from your posts (thanks) and that I had based on my quick look at reviews. For example, it has a corbin seat with passenger backrest, bar risers and more protective MRA Laminar windshield (it also has heated grips, halogen headlights and a few other goodies) plus an impressive maintenance history. Plus, I like the colour. With all that said, I'm still just thinking, and would have to satisfy myself that my wife would like the ride before I do any more thinking about it.
  22. A buddie is thinking of selling his. Never rode one. Reviews look good. Anyone know these bikes Orchards have any opinions? Just thinking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  23. What a great thread. Read everyone's responses which made me reflect a bunch. After 52 years of riding, I still get a high from a good ride. I'll admit however that it is not as much fun sometimes, in busy traffic or bad weather. Like for most here, there always seems to be more that we need to or would like to do with the time and energy that we have, which never seems to be enough, and seems to be less each year. In my case, I really relate personally to the sandwich generation thing. Although I lost my father and father in law this year, we still have our mothers (90 and 92), whose care now consumes a bunch of time and energy, not to mention the grandkids thing. And then my wife's doc says she needs less stress in her life to deal with her high blood pressure which caused her to loose some eyesight. I also relate to the point made by many about the aging Venture. In fact, in my case, my 88 VR that I like so much and have made my own was written off by my insurance co this week ($5000 damage on a bike worth half that) and I am not sure I have the energy to restore it myself (I do have Swifty's 86 to start riding). I didn't expect to get into all this when I started my response to this thread, but there it is.
