  1. Hey, as for the link, if you go to the Technical Library. Click on the 2nd generation and Royal Star Technical Library. Then click on the Body, Plastic, Paint, and Seats section. Scroll down to the thread:Crash Bar Supports. This will show Pics and explain it rather well. Or, you could just go up and hit search (up in the blue area) and type in Crash Bar Supports. It will then come up.
  2. Well, if that is the case, then 23 of the last 24 new bikes that I've owned have been designed wrong. Why would you even waste the time to put on engine guards that will not protect the engine in the event of a mishap? Perhaps you are right, but I sure hope not.
  3. After reading the excellent thread on this site on how to fix the flexing problems in the engine guards, I made the repairs yesterday. I did it as the thread said to, and without a glitch. I just can not believe that Yamaha does not know that this is a poor design and a real weak spot. God forbid anyone dropping their bike prior to doing the fix, I'm sure a lot of bodywork would have to be done. The hardest part of the entire job is taking off the floorboard mounts, they are torqued on and with blue locktite. The 1" 3 piece bar clamps were the most expensive items on the list, at $7.99 each from J&P Cycles. Part # 7000127 . Do yourself a big favor and make this fix, you will not believe how solid it makes the engine guards!
  4. Ya know, I had a (young) mechanic tell me about 3 years ago that once you change to synthetic, you have to stay with synthetic or your clutch will start to slip. I don't buy this as I've done it many times over the years while trying to find the best oil for the bike I had at the time. My last bike, a 2006 Nomad ran better, cooler and less noise with synthetic diesel oil. I found this out after changing back and forth a bunch of times, never a problem and 65000 miles on the ol' girl when I traded her for my new 2009 Venture.
  5. I use any of the quality diesel oils. I have used the synthetic but my 2009 venture likes the dino better. It shifts better and I hear less engine noise with the dino oil. At 24000 miles in less than a year, and no problems with the bike at all, I'll stick with this and the 3K mile oil changes.
  6. For the last 6 months I've been using the TIRE GUARD PRESSURING MONITORS. It really amazes me how fast the pressure goes up when under way! Like I said in my previous post, I've been running 40# front and 43# rear. In a matter of 3-4 miles the pressure goes up to about 44# front and 48# rear. That's in moderate ambient temps. If it's real warm out, those pressures go up faster and I have seen it as high as 46# front and 51# rear. You can also see the tire temps, and that's also very interesting. I've seen the tire temps as high as 95 degrees in the front and 109 degrees in the rear on a real hot day. What I really like about the monitor system is on those occasions that things just don't feel right, (usually due to road surface), it's nice to look down and know you don't have a tire going down. And if it is, you can catch it before it gets hot and causes a blow out! Just food for thought...
  7. Good Morning All, On Tuesday of next week I'm going to have new Dunlop Elite 3 put on front and rear. On the Dunlop web site it says to run 36# in the front and 40# in the rear. Is this what all you Elite 3 runners are putting in? This seems a bit low to me as I've been running 40# front and 43# rear in the stock stones. Want to get the best life out of these tires as possible! Thanks!
  8. Hello, I'm getting close to a tire change and would like to change to the Dunlop E3's. I have stock size Stones ie: 150-80H-16 front and a 150-90H-15 rear. I do not find these sizes in the Dunlop E3 listing. What size are you E3 users using? Thanks!
  9. What is the K&N part # ?
  10. I have had both. I had a 2003 1800 Goldwing, I now have a 2009 Venture. In the past I have had 22 new metric bikes, two were Voyagers, two were Nomads, and two were concourses... E-nuff said ! The Goldwing to me was over rated by far, unless you like riding a sopha down the highway. It's not a motorcycle, it's a convertable minus two wheels. Get the Venture, I can tell you, you will love the best of both worlds!
  11. Ya all need to try ARIET Boots! I'm telling you, their the most comfortable boot from day one you can get... And they work great with the shifters.
