  1. Check steering head bearings. Leveling links with the Hagon probably raise the bike more than leveling links with stock shock . My bike with the Hagon and stockleveling links sits higher than it did with the OE shock and 45lbs of air.
  2. Forgot to buy tickets this year. Missed it somehow.
  3. Do they send a confirmation email on your sweepstakes entry? I'm trying to enter and the little wheel by the enter button spins and nothing else happens. tired referesh and the form went blank. Entered the wife and the same thing happens. Just not meant to win a Polaris I guess. Not sure I dig the looks. Have to see one in person.
  4. Your OP says its an RSTD which most will assume as I did that you have a 2005-2009 model bike which is mechanically identical to the 1999-current Royal Star Venture. Those links address the carbs fitted to those RSTD/RSV models. It would be most helpful to know what year bike and model you have as there are likely some subtle differences in the early Royal Stars. Many people here with those bikes too if that is what you have. Consider the membership, helps keep the site going, cost less than the Clymer manual, and as you pointed out, the info and people here are much more useful. Good Luck and let us know how you make out. RSTDdog
  5. 136. Voted from work too! Although it says you can vote everyday, So if you voted yesterday, clear your cookies and vote again today! While I didn't go through all 12,000 pages of pictures formt he ones I looked at, he is still the cutest. From the website: "We encourage you to vote each day. When you return the next day to vote again, be sure to clear your cookies/cache and open a new browser to ensure the system recognizes your vote. We verify all votes to ensure their legitimacy (I'm curious how they do this, IP tracking??), in the spirit of the contest. Only legitimate votes received throughout the month will be considered in determining the winner." RSTDdog
  6. WELCOME! These articles are from the 2nd Gen and Royal Star tech library section and should come in handy. 7. If you didn't do the install you might look into the work that was done and the quality (or lack there of) of the connections/connectors used. If they used scotch locks, might be starting to get some high resistance at connections affecting the modulator, particularly if it happens to you again.
  8. Chipley is in the panhandle of Florida and they have had more than their fair share of rain this summer, even compared to us in South Florida. I have rain gear, but am no fan of riding inthe rain and don't do it on purpose if I can help it. Ditto the heat. In the summer I try to ride enough to burn through a tank of gas a month, but that's about it.
  9. I know the Venture S has chrome forks and fork covers in place of the brushed aluminum pieces and other chrome bits not on the regular model. Not sure if the S included other items.
  10. Maybe just due the 600 mile service??
  11. Voted 116. Very Cute indeed and great name. Gavin is my middle name. I was named for General James Gavin. My dad was his interpreter in WWII. RSTDdog
  12. When you post your add in the classifieds, you get a link to in the Links to Classified, Craiglist and Ebay forum and can provide addtional details discussion there as needed.
  13. There is a picture in post #2here:http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67745&highlight=Solo shows the bike with all the solo accessories: fender rack, saddle bag fillers and seat rail. I found mine searching around craigslist.Delphi Forums are also good place to look. Don't remember the retail prices. Sold it since I ride two up alot and the realities of switching back and forth for the look. It is a great look though, particularly on the Midnights.
  14. Do you have the info on which aftermarket Stator it has? Maybe check with Miles and see if he bought it and whether it came with a new Reg Rect. Maybe parts have a warranty still? Miles should know or have this info. I recall the ad for the bike and it seems he had some accessories added. You may need to disconnect all aftermarket accessories and then reconnect one at a time to see if one of those is causing an excessive draw or has a short. A bad battery could cause a problem. How bad was it? Would it hold a charge and start on its own or did you need to jump start to get the bike going?
  15. Rotella T6 which is the synthetic 5w 40 and also the Dino Rotella 15w 40 are both rated JASO MA the European Standard for Motorcyle Oils for use in Wet Clutch applications. Its on the back of the Jug with all the other applicable ratings. If the Delo is rated JASO MA then it shouldn't harm the wet clutch. If you are interested in detailed info on the Delo or any oil for that mattter I would suggest Bobistheoilguy.com I don't think I would use HDEO (Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil) in a bike with Oxygen sensors and/or catalytic converters. Its my understanding some of the additives in HDEO may not play nicely with these items over the long term. The RSV has neither so not an issue.
  16. The part number listed in the JC Whitney link is for fork springs for 112.00. Note the JCW header is generic and includes fork springs in the title.
  17. Curious which Hagon distributor did you contact? Hagon LLC in California typically has both the standard and Uprated version in stock and ready to ship. I got mine from Hagon LLC in the same week with free shipping (in the US). Dave Quinn is the other Hagon distributor, and I got 4-6 week estimates from them and the pricing wasn't as good. Keep us posted on the YSS and how you like it. What is the warranty on the YSS?
  18. Also check for air leaks, like the little rubber caps on the sync ports are know to crack with age, be sure your muffler clamps are tight, check collector y's on either side, check carb sync,
  19. The only thing Progressive suspension makes that fits the RSV and RSTD is front fork springs. http://www.progressivesuspension.com/prodSearchResults.aspx?yearID=2006&makeID=48&modelID=662 As far as I know your choices for a rear shock are Works, Hagon, YSS and the OEM shock. I ended up buying a Hagon. Search rear shock, titles only, should get you lots of reading to decide what will work best for you.
  20. Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't had one apart, but it appears to me from the microfiche the speedo sensor is reading off the pinion gear which is splined directly to the output shaft of the engine. The vmax rear means you are turning more rpms for a given speed, so the gear spinning by by the speedo sensor(essentiallya hall effect sensor I guess) is turning faster for a given speed. what am I missing?? Is it enough to make a difference?? Has anyone checked?
  21. How does the Vmax rear affect the speedometer error?? Since the pick up is on the gear set at the input end of the diff, the gear is therefore spinning faster at a given speed with the Vmax rear than it is with the stock rear correct? To accurately check for mileage changes between the two, you also need to know the speedo error associated with both. I can't figure out in my head at the momnet if you would log more miles or less with the vmax rear??? 2nd gen owners can't compare fuel mileage to first gen owners or expect that type of mileage either. The aero dynamics on the first gen appear to be much better to me which has a big effect on mpg.
  22. Be sure and check the air in the donut spare. most of them take 60 psi and they never get checked. You don't want to have a flat and find out its under inflated, those donuts will over heat rapidly when underinflated. Was the Cultass a bucket seat center console car? If so I can understand the desire. With 60's and 70's rear drive GM muscle cars going out of site, the last of the rear drive GM coupes from the 80's are becoming affordable alternatives and nice ones that are higly optioned will eventually be collectors inspite of the underpowered emission motors of that era.
  23. No problem I offered my used rear shock since you said you were possibly trading it in soon. I didn't notice a problem withthe handling, was doing some other maintenance, noticed it was dirty and saw some oil inside the boot and decided to replace it. Never leaked a puddle on the ground. Figured Free was better than 500 if you aren't keeping the bike. Not aware that Progressive (Progressive Suspension, its a brand name)makes a rear mono shock for the rstd. Dealer may be mistaken. I know progressive makes alot of replacement rear shocks for twin rear shock applications but those don't fit the RSTD/RSV since it only has one. In rear shocks for the RSTD/RSV as far as I know the choices are Works, Hagon, YSS, and the Stock Yamaha shock. If you are thinking Hagon, Hagon LLC in California is who I dealt with. Very nice, shipped out Monday from CA and arrive that friday in Fort Myers, Fl. Progressive does make replacement springs to go inside the front forks and I could see a dealer charging you 500 for new fork springs and to rebuild the front forks with new seals, fork oil, etc. If you are rebuilding the front forks consider Sonic straight rate springs. Freebird has these and Rick Butler recommends them as well. Actually with the Sonic springs you will find that you won't need to add air to the front forks any more since they can support the weight of the motorcycle. Stock front springs are kind of soft. 24. Is the Road Glide the one with the fixed fairing and dual headlights? I like the looks of those. A guy in the rstd forum posted a photoshop of an rstd with that HD fixed fairing on it and it looked pretty good IMO. He was asking if anyone had done it/tryed it before. I rented an Ultra Classic when we went to Maui in April. Did not like the cable clutch, clunky shifting or the heat when stopped, but other than that its a real nice, well balanced motorcycle. Rode the North shore road on west Maui (Kahekeli Route 340)two up and was actually more comfortable on the Ultra than I would have been on my RSTD just from a slow speed balance and control standpoint. My friedn suggested and I had not researched it prior to our trip. This road is one lane with sheer drops, blind uphill hairpins, section with bad asphalt and loose gravel and no guard rails. Not for the faint of heart, I've done it once, lived to tellabout it, but would probaly not do it again. Anyhow I enjoyed the ultra overall and would buy one with a water cooled, shaft drive, hydraulic clutch drive train.
