  1. Well the only time it shuts down is when I am stopped and it is hot. You can certainly tell when it's running on one but it's actually kind of neat I think. At any rate, it sure doesn't bother me. My one and only complaint so far is that heat when you get stuck in traffic. That will get somewhat better though once I get the catalytic convertor out of there. That will be done within the next few weeks.
  2. They have pockets for the speakers. Our Edsets speakers fit in them very well with no modifications. I'm not sure if the larger J&M speakers would fit or not but I have to think that they would. To be honest though, we have now removed the speakers from our Edset and use earbuds. They fit fantastic under the helmet also with absolutely NO pressure of any kind and sound fantastic. The Mag 9 was the other one that I was looking at but decided for the price, to give these a try.
  3. Maybe some...but as you say...not much. Now if you decide to order them from Revzilla, please use the banner link so that we get some commission on it.
  4. Yes, two separate shields that can be raised or lowered together or separately. Very handy.
  5. The week before leaving for Galena, I ordered two new helmets. Our old Nolan N42 models were getting close to 10 years old and though they still look good, I knew it was time to add a couple of new ones. I did a good deal of searching and there weren't many out there exactly like Eileen and I wanted. I wanted 3/4 helmets with visor, integrated face shield and integrated sun shield. I found a couple but one was almost $500.00 each and the other was about $180.00 but you had to remove the visor to use the shield and etc. I then found these AFX FX-50 helmets. It was one of those cases where they looked too cheap to be any good but the reviews were mostly positive so I decided to give them a try. At $85.00 each, I did not have very high hopes but I can tell you that both Eileen and I were very pleasantly surprised with them. All the features that we wanted and at a GREAT price. They also have ear pockets for your speakers and the finish is as nice as you could hope for. We found them to be very comfortable on our the trip to and back from Galena. If you are looking for a nice 3/4 helmet at what I consider a bargain price, you should check them out. One word of caution. I used their sizing guide to try and determine what size to order. Using their guide, I would have needed to order an XS for Eileen and a medium for myself. Just didn't seem right so I ordered my usual Large and ordered her what they call a S/M. Both fit perfectly. Had I ordered what their sizing chart indicated, they would have both been too small. I bought them from a company that I had never dealt with before. Revzilla. Shipping was free, they shipped the following day and I had them at my house in 3 days. I was so impressed with their service that I've added a banner for them that will rotate with the other banners at the upper right of our site.
  6. hmmm.....and here I thought we had become friends. You are just like all my other friends around this place.
  7. One GALLON of EVERYCLEAR? WOW....that is going to be potent enough. Actually I guess that would make it close to 100 proof or 50% alcohol.
  8. You can do that with the Edsets 3G module. You can just unplug the speakers, cut off the wires and just use the mic. There is still a jack on the back of the module to plug in some earbuds if you decide later that you want to. I've removed the helmet speakers from our Edsets and we just use earbuds. The sound is amazing that way.
  9. Sorry about that Monty. I screwed up. Meant to just delete the poll until we could further explore the possibilities and accidentally deleted the entire thread. My bad.
  10. I don't know how I got involved with this. I'm pretty sure that I am totally innocent as always.
  11. Now that looks like an excellent solution for a half helmet. Very good. If I actually OWNED a half helmet, I would take you up on this.
  12. I'm really not sure yet what the mileage per tank is. The Ultra has a 6 gallon tank. The only highway miles I have done was riding two up and pulling a heavily loaded trailer. I averaged 36 to 38 MPG on that trip riding usually 75 miles per hour and a bit faster at times. I'm thinking that riding one up without the trailer that I should get in the 45 MPG range. Just don't know yet.
  13. I don't know if it was down when you posted or not but it seems to be OK now.
  14. Had the pleasure of meeting up with IronMike for dinner last night. He had a KuryAkyn trunk relocation kit for the Harley and was kind enough to give it to me in exchange for some future tech training on carb syncing and etc. Went had had some decent Mexican food in Akron, OH and talked mostly about bikes of course. Very nice guy. He is a great addition to our VentureRider family and I look forward to riding some with him in the near future.
  15. Thanks for the warning...as I told you...Eileen is VERY sensitive to fumes. I can't even eat beans before a long ride. Will be interesting to hear how it holds up over the long haul. Sounds like it may be good stuff for some applications. I don't know if I want my leather turning a frosty white though.
  16. Sorry, I just went back and looked and Easy Rider did mention West Virginia. I thought he meant year after next but see where he later offered to do it next year. I think though that we'll stick with the two other choices for next year and them maybe WV the following year.
  17. I'm not sure what you are talking about. Are they pop up ads? They are not coming from this site. I have no pop up ads here. Like said, you likely have some type of virus or malware.
  18. OK...poll is posted. Please check the "Polls" forum and place your votes. Here is a link to it: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80838
  19. LOL...it IS. That is why I offered to start a poll. Now go back to your corner.
  20. OK...looks like we have two firm possibilities for 2014. Eddyville, KY or somewhere in that area. Gunthersville, AL I've been to both of those areas and both are fantastic. So...should I start a poll or just make an executive decision. I actually lean more towards the Gunthersville idea because it sounds like the facility has everything we need. Rooms, restaurant, bars, etc.
  21. Gotta watch moving it to the middle of August. We talked about that in Galena and had a number of folks there who work in the school system and may be back at work by then.
  22. So, are you volunteering to head it up and get a committee together?
  23. One thing that I've learned over the past few years is that, when possible, it is best to ahve a central lodge or hotel that offers dining, drinks, etc. It just seems to go much better and is more fun when as many as possible are staying at the same location. I know that some do like to camp and often the campground is not at the same location but close by is nice.
  24. Just did my part. Good luck.
  25. Folks, I'm hearing some great suggestions for locations but I've only heard ONE person step up and and say "I'll do it next year". That is Brake Pad. So.....how about it? We will make a decision very soon so if you are willing to step up to the plate, be the team leader and put together the people you need to help, then throw your hat in the ring.
