  1. @dfitzbizis the guy you want to talk to. He rebuilds them.
  2. Y’all keep those thoughts up there. We have very few plow trucks and salt spreaders here so it doesn’t take much snow/ice to paralyze the area. Nobody has snow blowers here, farmers and a few of us with tractors clear our back roads. We rarely get a dry snow, the first two or three trucks going down a wet snowy road compress it into an ice sheet. No snow tires or chains here. Google the 2009 KY ice storm and you’ll see what two inches of ice can do overnight here. Some were without power 6-8 weeks, ours was 9-10 days. Luckily I have generators that got us thru it. Our town of 20,000 was completely cut off. No groceries or gas for a few days, a water main break left most without running water for a few days, we lost 3 buildings to fire because our hydrants were dry. We’re just not equipped to deal with it because it rarely happens here. Now they’re calling for 8-10” of dry snow Monday, should be fun dealing with that. Us old farts with 4 wheel drive trucks don’t miss a beat but everything else is so bad it’s comical.
  3. Fire it up from cold and check all 4 exhaust pipes coming out of the heads. A dead cylinder will have a cold pipe.
  4. Before I head out on a multi day run I also take a look at the member map to see who lives near my route.
  5. A Venture at 20mpg has problems. As far as low 30s to 40s can be a fair average depending on how it’s ridden. Keep the rpms up around 4K and ride it like a touring bike for the best numbers, ride it like a sport bike (yes it’s capable) or two up at 90mph and those numbers will fall quickly.
  6. Neither of my daughters have any interest in motorcycling. I have mixed feelings, I’d like to ride with them but I know the safety issues. The Dr Daughter has worked on some crashed riders and doesn’t like Mom and Dad riding at all.
  7. I spent a lot of time on the roofs of some factories and plants around here for 13 years, really liked the work. Unfortunately the owners in their later years were more concerned with profit over quality work so I moved on. Too much pride in craftsmanship to do cheap work.
  8. I like to make fun of the Yankees in early spring and late fall about our extended riding season so I guess I deserve that. 🤬🤬🤬
  9. Been there. I left the HVAC trade 19 years ago, I miss the work we did but not the weather we did it in.
  10. Last I knew Earl was putting his kit back together after the post office scattered the shims. He’s been down with some surgery, I’m betting he’ll be around soon with another update.
  11. 1963 is older than me but I can’t imagine wanting to live in that. We may have our 90% humidity and 100*+ summer days but you can keep the snow and hard freezes. Not to mention our 9 to 10 month riding season. When it’s too hot to ride I can go fishing.
  12. We’ve got that coming too. Single digits and 12*-15* below zero. Not normal for our area.
  13. I think you Northerners done went and broke your weather. It’s down here in my yard, all ice with what we consider heavy snow coming (up to 8 inches). I would greatly appreciate it if you’d come and get it.
  14. @Marcarl nailed it. We’ve done the 3day trips with just the saddlebags and trunk ok, longer trips I want more tools, cooler, leathers, rain gear, snacks etc, etc. The trailer is one of my best purchases, as we get older theres cpap machines, meds, and other necessities. On the other hand. watch @cowpuc and his videos, nobody packs a bike better for two people and weeks of travel.
  15. Y’all feel free to keep that mess up there. Cool, windy, and wet here. Weatherman says 45 and sunny Wednesday, I hope to get the boat on the water and catch some catfish.
  16. Scroll up Carl.
  17. Prayers up.
  18. One good thing about it, no matter which method you use you’ll be the first to know if it isn’t set right. In my case it was at 90 on the interstate.
  19. Condolences to the family. I never got to meet Kevin but like many more I learned from him on more than one occasion.
  20. Thanks y’all. We had a nice sunny day for the grave side funeral and 8 grandsons to carry her to her resting place. She’s much better off now.
  21. I read right across it. Now thanks to you I have an image burned into my brain I could’ve done without. 😩😩😩
  22. Only if you remove the belt. It’ll spin the tranny same as the shaft.
  23. I don’t have a 3rd Gen but 1st &2nd gen both say to not tow with wheel on the ground. The transmission isn’t lubricated correctly without the engine running. The forces of acceleration and hard braking are also transmitted up the forks and neck, not something that excites me.
  24. Yeah I know this is off topic but a question for all y’all in the area. Watching the Science Channel I just saw the story of the Kinzua Bridge collapse, we like to see historic sites and are considering detouring over to see it. 300’ high and a glass floor is something right up my alley, my wife not so much. Anybody up there have opinions on taking time to see the park and are there other attractions nearby?
  25. After reading more of this I stopped by and grabbed another Gock 48 while the getting is good. $400 including tax.
