  1. Yeah, what Randy said. I've been all over North America, from below sea level to over 14,000 feet without a hiccup from the carbs. Probably diaphragms or a float.
  2. I did the Dingy brush ground upgrade about 10 years ago. Starter has been fine since. Probably all you need to do.
  3. Looks good. Can I send you mine so you can rebuild it???
  4. Mine came today. Ordered from China, came from Steve Xu, West Chester, Ohio Look OK, have not tried them.
  5. I can send you the program for the IgniTech that I'm using if you want. I tried to attach it here, but can't. I'll email it to you.
  6. I ordered a set. I figured for 34 bucks, enough would fit to make to worth while. I let you know what happens. Mine are 27 years old, seem to be in good shape, but who knows?
  7. Not really, I tried all kinds of restrictors and wire inside the restrictor to make the orifice smaller. The problem is, one intake cycle sucking and three cycles leaking the vacuum. If you don't use a vacuum gauge, you don't see this. If you look at the advance with your computer hooked up the IgnTech, you'll see it jumping all over the place. I fixed that.
  8. What I learned about my ’89 VR this summer. Went to the MTA Rally in Georgia last June and then to my BIL in Jacksonville, NC. Rode the Tail of the Dragon, which is a bunch of hype. 3003 miles pulling a trailer Finally, after 25 years, I learned how to reset the cruise control. Before, if it was set to a speed and engaged, I was having trouble resetting the speed, either up or down. I found that I released it, (touched the brake or clutch), it would reset to whatever the new speed was. I’ve been during a lot of reprogramming the IgniTech ignition I got from Dingy. I did some riding with a vacuum gauge noting vacuum readings at different rpms and throttle settings. Could not get a wide range of vacuum readings. Finally, I installed a check valve in each of the 4 hoses from the vacuum ports to the MAP sensor. Finally, a full range of values from 5 to 28 in/hg. Using those readings, I reprogrammed the IgnTech. I also dropped the needles a 1/16” in the carbs and checked float level. During the trip I was getting around 35 mpg pulling a trailer at 70-75 mph and 45 mpg without the trailer. Leaving NC to come home, I found I had a burned out stator. Ordered one from Denis Kirk and had it overnighted in. They were the only ones who seemed to have it in stock so we didn’t have to wait very long, but cost me about twice as much. They even called me to verify the shipping address. Luckly, my bil has an impact screwdriver which is almost a requirement for removing the stator screws. Even so, one of the short screws was damaged enough that I didn’t want it to come loose and bounce around inside the stator. Went to LOWES and found a metric allen head screw to replace it. Took the same allen wrench as the case screws. Thinking ahead, I may start carrying a spare stator like some of my Goldwing friend do. By replacing the stator screws with allen head screws, I would have all the tools I need in my tool kit.
  9. For $33 I would try some, but I can't figure out the web site. Should be able to get them direct from china, but can't find them US Shipping in West Chester, Ohio has them for 54 bucks on e-bay. 10. Looking for new roads to ride? Check here. http://www.motorcycleroads.com/
  11. The reason I like air forks and air shocks is that sometime I ride single and sometimes I ride two up. I like easy change over, rear shock mostly.
  12. I assume you don't have the reserve tank turned on. Mine has been on since day one. If I have 1 bar, I have gas, on the side stand and off.
  13. Yeah, that would be the way to go.
  14. $120 on Amazon and free shipping. I've got a set on mine. Probably part number FEGV S3801 and no idea what I paid, been 10 or 15 years. I like them
  15. '89 Royale I have to refill the clutch master cylinder about once or twice a year. Keeps the fluid clean. I have the seals to fix it, so I thought I'd do it Sat. I can not loosen the two allen screws that hold the slave cylinder on. Tried a good allen key and stopped when it almost slipped over. Tried my impact screwdriver with no joy. However the allen key I was using was long and may have reduced the shock. So, I put the bike back together. I may weld a nut to the allen screw for a more secure connection. And the heat from that may help loosen the screws. I thought about drilling the heads off the screws. That would allow me to loosen the slave, but I may not be able to get it out because of the limited access. And I would still have two screw studs buried in a hole to deal with. Any ideas.
  16. Had that happen to me down in Mexico on an '83. Found the pin and reinstalled it and bent the tab back. Couple of years later, happened again on an '84. Guy with us has a set of numbered drill bits. We took the biggest one that would fit, cut it to length and installed it. Bent the tab back. When we got home, I make sure the tab was down tight and ran a small weld bead across the tab. Also bought the new fix for it, which I still have. Never needed it for the next 56,000 miles. This only happens when you kind of miss a shift and kind if force it. Shift finger catch's the tab and bends it open. You can have the kit, if I can find it. I see it from time to time.
  17. I agree about the corrosion. That's why all the connector pin and sockets on the bike are coated with de-electric grease. I've never had a melted connector on any of my bikes. The weather tight connectors would have been a better solution for Yamaha, but I don't recall them being available in '83.
  18. I'm glad I didn't do that when I had to replace the stator on the road last summer.
  19. I have to add fluid once a year. Been going on for several years. The plus side is the fluid stays clean. But, it's getting worse and I've got the seals to fix it. Going to do it soon.
  20. What's this Winterize your Bike thing that you speak of?
