  1. Yeah, that sounds like a part that would never need replacing?
  2. Dot 3, Dot 4, and Dot 5.1 are all compatible and can be used. The higher the number, the higher the boiling temperature of the fluid. And the higher the number, the more likely it is to absorb water. So, the higher the number, the more often flushing is needed but it might be just what you need for aggressive riding especially in the mountains when riding double with gear.

    Carbtune

I bought a Motion Pro sync tool. I got bubbles in the fluid that I couldn't shake down and was told by their tech it needed fluid. It was really easy for the fluid to get sucked into the engine if the carb sync was very far off. I was poed enough with it that I sold if for less than half what I paid for it and constructed a homemade unit. If I buy another it will be a set of gauges.
  4. I wonder if boats.net (partzilla.com) would have the parts?
  5. Welcome! And that is a beautiful bike. It's my favorite color.
  6. I spent 7 months working 6 - 12s at the infamous Davis Besse Nuclear Power Plant during their restart not that far from your home. They replaced the reactor vessel head that had corroded completely through the 6" of carbon steel and the thin stainless steel liner had started leaking. I actually stayed in Perrysburg south of Toledo.
  7. Maybe I don't know where to look but I haven't seen your address anywhere Freebird. I see Oberlin Ohio but that's it. can you post your address so I can find maintenance day? thanks!
  8. contact crue69. He's parting out an 89 that is maroon I believe.
  9. One of the issues with the bike is fork seals. If they are leaking, the oil will drench the front brakes and render them useless. Better take a trailer and plan on hauling it home.
  10. I was wondering about the camera. I was guessing that they used something like a boroscope to take those photos.
  11. Not venomous, but I'm still not applying!
  12. When I was there last August, I stayed in the Fairfield Inn in Spearfish. Directly across the highway we ate at a buffet the last night there and they had the best fried chicken. I regret not asking about the batter they used on the chicken.
  13. Hey, speaking as a fat old man as most of the venture riders members seem to be, I applaud the less than perfect women who have enough self confidence to show off their stuff! It's Sturgis bike week after all. More power to them! Seems to be the typical male attitude, we want a 10 in a woman even if we are only a 2!
  14. I found Sturgis surprisingly tame. I suppose they have enough LEO's around to maintain civility. And the few scantilly dressed women I saw I suspect were paid models. They were young, absolutely gorgeous, and would pose for photos with you if you asked. I've seen the youtube videos about Sturgis too and I didn't see anything like that. But, I left before dark and maybe it gets wilder later at night. If you are expecting a wild and woolly town that isn't safe you will be disappointed.

    Black Owl

For those of us who never had the priviledge of meeting Black Owl, does anyone have any photos they could post? Thanks
  16. Oh, I as too busy chasing, groping, and clawing to take any photos! And they were young and beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Warm weather is coming! That will cheer you up!
  18. A couple of days ago, I bought a WIX oil filter for my 85 Kawasaki from O'Reillys Auto Parts. I didn't ask but I suspect they could supply the Venture filter also. I looked in Walmart first and they did have 3 different Fram motorcycle oil filters on the shelf but nothing that would fit my bikes.
  19. I just had a thought. With the bike on the centerstand, look at the oil sight glass and start the engine and see if the level drops below the top of the glass.
  20. I bought one for my 89 Venture from NAPA. The number is NAPA PS4933. It's made by WIX.
  21. I will be signing up. I mentioned it to the wife and she didn't say Hxll No! I'm 73 as of a couple days ago so she thinks I'm getting old. But I know better! She's working full time and doesn't like to ride so she won't be coming. I'm not sure what I'll be riding. A new battery and all the Gumout I put in the 85 Kawasaki has almost gotten it back to full speed but the Venture needs lots of attention, fork seals, clutch slave cylinder rebuild, carb work, etc. Last night I ordered a gel seat cushion for the Kawasaki. No way I could stay in the saddle that long on the stock seat.
  22. I was there Monday and Tuesday of bike week. Yeah, there were lots of people and bikes but I didn't have much trouble finding a place to park my truck and every time I wanted a beer or food I didn't have to wait. So, I can't complain about the crowds. If I went again I'd want to go during bike week. There were those beautiful girls walking around scantily dressed to spike my attention. My son who happened to be driving from Los Angeles to NYC detoured to Sturgis met me there. I think he enjoyed it a lot too.
  23. Even though you said it had spark, the spark could be weak. Have you cleaned the wiring connections? How old are the spark plug wires? I clipped a half inch off mine and it seemed to make a difference. The copper core at the cap ends was corroded.
  24. I don't know if the police are the same all year but during bike week, they will give you a ticket for 1 mph over the limit.
  25. It is very close to Sturgis. Last summer I spent a several days in Sturgis and Deadwood during the bike event. I enjoyed it a lot. I was driving my truck after touring Wyoming for a week with my wife. I also visited Mt. Rushmore which is close by. If you watch the HBO series Deadwood, it will help you understand some of the history of the town. I think it is still available to watch.
