The RSV was sold thru 2013. You can pick up one of the older RSVs pretty cheap.

If you do a search you might find part numbers for an car thermostat that fits and costs less than the Yam part.

Welcome aboard! The MKIIs, 86 and up have better front brakes. Many members have installed MkII front forks on their MkIs to get the better brakes, 4 piston calipers.

You want one that can be detached without losing air because the front suspension doesn't need much. I don't know if all of them will do it.

I bought the Progressive brand. But, it appears that there are a plethora of brands to choose from.

The float needle has some trash under it and won't seal. It happens on carbed motorcycles. I think Cowpuc had a procedure where he connected to the drain and pushed cleaner up into the carb fuel bowl and let it drain and repeat.

Well guys, I went to the cardiologist to get clearance for hip replacement surgery and the EKG came out different from what it has been the way they explained it and with a few skipped beats. I had noticed that my heart beat was irregular at times. So, in a month I go back for a stress test and an echocardiogram. In the mean time, I know the Vitamin K2 had an effect on my heart with the reduced angina, so I did some more research and it appears that a side effect of the K2 can be heart palpitations.... So, I reduced the intake of K2 to one supplement of 45 mcg instead of 90 and I'll see if that makes a difference. And I'm going to increase my exercise routine. Sucks to be an old fart! Ha!

And prescription medicines supposedly have been tested and approved by the FDA. Who knows about supplements?

And research all of your meds for side effects and drug interactions. Doctors spend very little time with each patient and the bottom line is that we have to get involved with our health decisions. I quit taking both of the heart medications the cardiologist prescribed because they were causing more harm than good in my opinion and my opinion is the only one that counts with me. I'll listen and I will try what they say. But if the meds they prescribe appears to be making things worse, I don't take it.

A little up date on my condition. I did continue to take 20mg of rosuvastatin. The Dr prescribed 40mg. The vitamin K2 still seems to be working as I can be much more active without feeling angina. However, I just had my annual blood test performed. My cholesterol is 108. Supposedly the normal range starts at 120. So, I think 10mg daily may be best. Another interesting thing on my blood test is that my red blood cell count is too low along with hemoglobin. I checked last years results and it was at the low end of the scale. Never been low before. A little research revealed that the covid shots will reduce the red blood cell count. I took both of the first Pfizer shots a month or more before last years lab test and I had the booster last November. A little more research revealed that Vitamin B12 increases red blood cells so I started taking that today. No more booster shots for me. If you don't know a low red blood cell count will sap your energy and an old fart like me needs all the energy I can get! Ha!

Lapping the valves may be all that is needed if the valves are a problem. I would put a lot of seafoam or gumout in the gas and see what that does.

As I remember, Cowpuc had 5 of these bikes that he wore out at 180k miles to over 200k miles, and as I remember, only one of them had second gear. The 6th one that he bought from another member had the second gear repair. He really proved how durable these bikes are.

Sounds like that bike is worth repairing, cosmetically in good condition, and with only 5k miles on it. If you can do the work yourself, I'd say get it running well and enjoy! The first thing I would do is a compression test on the engine just to make sure it's okay. The second gear issue shouldn't show up until about 30k miles or more. There is a ton of information on this site to read. One thing cowpuc always recommended on bikes that have been sitting is to put some oil on the valve train/cams before starting. And cowpuc who is no longer a member is famous for buying old cheap 83 and 84 Ventures and putting a couple hundred thousand miles on them.
