I wish I could have made it. I would have enjoyed it much more than removing those dang kitchen cabinets! I'm getting too old for this stuff.

The front brakes are much better on the 89 also unless you have changed the forks on the 83 to the Mark II forks. -
Well, I won't be able to make it after all this year. I just got word our new kitchen cabinets have arrived at the builders supply, so I will be removing the old cabinets and repairing the wall for new back splash for the next couple of days.

Just to be clear, it will be on Thursday, May 16?

Stuck gas tank lock
BlueSky replied to Basil's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This is a fairly common problem with bikes that have sat for years. Corrosion happens and the cap won't come off. Most of the time I think the key won't turn either. Their are utube videos about how owners have finally been able to get the caps off. -
Rear shock might be shot ... how can I tell..?

May sound stupid, but check the tire pressure. -
Sounds like a great idea! I'll be there.

Only a V6! That V6 is more powerful than the V8 Camaros of a few years ago. I've ridden in a rental Camaro with that engine that my son rented when he visited and it flys. My wife has a similarly powerful 325hp V6 Infiniti EX37, the little crossover, and I think it may be quicker than my Hemi Magnum. Congratulations to Eileen!

Yeah, but the "small" trucks today are about the same size as the full size trucks of old. That's one thing I don't like about the new full size trucks. They keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger. It's like driving a dang bus. When I got out of my buddies 2013 F150 and got back in my 2002 F150, both supercabs, it felt almost like I was going from a full size to a Ranger.

The Tacoma and Frontier can still be purchased with a stick, but that's all I know of.

Grew up on the edge of the woods with a swamp and small creek not so far back in the woods. Saw and was scared by many Copperheads. Killed as many as possible with a hoe or bushax. Never saw a rattler in the wild growing up in north eastern NC. Lots and lots of water mocassins in the creek where I fished. Some hot summer days I would go fishing and there would be dozens of them laying on the bank. Those days I went back home without fishing.

RAM started using the ZF 8 speed transmission in 2013. It is German designed and is used in BMWs, Rolls Royce, Audi, and a host of others. I think it's a good transmission. Check it out.

I didn’t do anything to my bike but I bought a jack and jack adapter from Sylvester today. So now I’ll be able to jack up the RSV to replace the tires. Really enjoyed meeting Jim, a super nice guy. He has a really nice RSV for sale if anyone is in the market! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I used to watch the History channel a lot and according to those old west shows there is only one documented gunfight where two guys faced off in the street. Wild Bill Hickok had a fight with another guy who drew and fired first. He missed and Hickok shot the guy through the heart at 75 paces, a remarkable shot with those old guns. Supposedly most people who were shot in the old west got shot in the back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Probably Glocks, the most accidentally fired handgun of all time. As I understand the “safety” is released when you pull the trigger! Huh? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've noticed over the years that there is an introductory low price and they increase it at every opportunity. Geico was the worst for that on our autos. Now, I am with an agent that insures with several companies and he shopped around with those companies. In my area, if you have a loan on your home, the loan co. requires wind and hail ins. which is sold separately due to the number of hurricanes we get. The wind and hail costs close to $2K per year. I don't buy it because in 25 yrs, numerous hurricanes have hit Wilmington and I haven't suffer any damage. Finger crossed! I'm paying just over $400 annually for liability ins on two of my bikes and that is not minimum coverage. I have only liability on my car, truck, and two of my bikes because they are all old. My wife's Infiniti is worth more and I have full coverage on it. Knock on wood. She learned to drive at age 42 when she came to the USA and she hasn't had an accident in the 16 yrs she has been driving! Knock on Wood! Knock on Wood!

My point about the speed rating which I did not make clear was that usually, the higher the speed rating, the stickier the tire is and that's what I prefer, the stickiest tire available.
-
Looking forward to the trip!

I'm wondering if the 230 tourmaster may suit my needs better. I don't put that many miles on my bikes and the 230 is advertised as being designed for high speed and the rear tire has a V speed rating. It makes me think it might be stickier than the 777? I always overthink tire purchases. If somebody made a sport bike tire to fit the RSV, that is probably what I would buy.

I don't know about Chapparral. I was going to buy two tires from them because they appeared to have the lowest prices and after putting them in the cart, I found out the free standard shipping was unavailable and there was a $35 UPS shipping charge. So, I emptied my cart. Has anybody else had a less than desirable experience with them?

I think they all can have their issues. Valve train/cams can be a problem with the "hemis" from what I've read. Chevy seems to still have cam wear problems on some engines. Ford starting in 2018 has the stop/start feature on all trucks that I don't like. The new 10 speed autos that ford and gm developed together has its issues. I think the new ZF 8 speed German design trans that RAM uses is a good trans. I don't have to worry about rust here in Wilmington, NC so that isn't a concern for me. Flyinfool very rarely hits my area. Toyota may be the most reliable truck but over my life time, every time I thought about buying one, the salesmen were so arrogant I walked. My

I don't have any real preferences any more. I have a 14 yr old Dodge Magnum and 17 yr old F150. I bought a 2013 Infiniti for my wife. Prior to that I bought a Mitsubishi and a Mazda for her. I bought a Chevy Cavalier, Buick skyhawk, Pontiac sunbird, and a Ford Contour for my daughter, a Ford Escort and a Mustang for my son, and a Focus, Miata, Mustang and another Miata for my Stepson. If I bought a new truck it would probably be a RAM or a Toyota. New car might be a Dodge Charger or Chrysler 300. I loved my hot rod chevys in my youth but soured on them due to lots of repairs.

Yep, the design is bad but I bought a new 2000 f150 with the 5.4L engine and put 105k miles on it with no issues. My friend who bought it ran it up to 170k miles with no issues. My current 2002 f150 5.4 has 154k miles on it with no blown out plugs so far. Probably will blow one tomorrow since I said that . This one lasted over a million miles! http://www.millionmilevan.com/ Ain't no perfect vehicles out there. The guy who makes the South Main Auto Repair videos says Chevys and Dodges pays his mortgage and for his kids college funds.
