  1. I worked C130 maintenance for 22 years, engines and props. Dumbest thing I ever did was trust someone else. We had to inspect fuel filters every 30 days during home station check, so power has to be off the airplane while it's done. Forget the procedure, but the fuel to the engine had to be shut off from the tanks before removing the filter, actually a strainer located in the fuel heater, the first stop after leaving the tanks. Well, my partner said he shut off the fuel and pulled the appropriate breakers to make sure it stayed off. Imagine my surprise when I removed the clamp, gave a healthy tug on the end cap and had JP-4 pouring out like a busted water main! I still don't know to this day how I managed to get the cap back in against the onrushing fuel and the fear of becoming a human candle. I sat in my car in my undies for the drive home, my wife wouldn't let me wash the clothes, had to toss 'em. After that day, I always did the fuel shutoff procedure myself, by the T.O. But I was also always gun-shy pulling those end caps off! Also left the pin out of the toilet seat one time after installing a new prop, but that's another story. 54H60 guys know...
  2. Flied Lice don't know about no fossil fuels, just gas 'n go. They fill 'er up and give me the fuel slip so I can make sure them Boeing gas gauges are telling the truth. I do know jet fuel is kerosene-based, diesel might be, too. Your vids are always instructive, informative, inspirational, incomprehensible, some other ins, too!
  3. Had an '80 and an '81 IT175 back in the day, loved 'em both. Found out quickly about riding over your head when I center-pointed a tree in the woods trying to outrun my buddy on his IT. Painful lesson but much happier after I learned to ride at my pace and not his or the other guys. And you're right again, he didn't care or belittle me for riding a little slower, nobody cared. We were just a bunch of Air Force mechanics having a blast with the little time we had off. Great comments.
  4. Haven't I read a bunch of posts about Seafoam fouling plugs? Or is that some other additive? Or does it depend on how much you use?
  5. Had our first white and wet slush event Friday morning, but I was already gone, driving thru Thunderstorms in the Tularosa Basin on the way to the El Paseo Aero Puerto in Tejas. No one home since the fam went back to Ole Miss to finish up some pre-move business that was left undone. I'm trying to set up a streaming outdoor cam, if I can ever get it to work I'll post a link on the site so everyone can laugh at the hillbilly transplant to the Old West tring to shovel white stuff from a 30º sloped driveway. Up, not down. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u479/flyday58/IMG_4682_zpsorxhdxwd.jpg
  6. Ramping up for my first cold-weather winter here at 9000' in New Mexico. Rain/sleet/slush/ sneet forecast for tomorrow night and Friday. After living in Florida and Mississippi for 57 years, this should be interesting. Everyone here screaming "El Niño!" every time I turn around. What have I done??
  7. Keep after it Luke. I resurrected an '83 that had sat under a leaky shed in southern Miss for about 5 years. Lots of cancer that needed to be gutted (read: brakes and reservoirs), but the first time I hit the throttle after getting all the problems sorted (read: replaced TCI with one that hadn't been submerged) It damn near threw me off the back, seriously. I wasn't ready. Great, great bikes once you dial 'em in, and this is the site to do that. Watch out for guys from Muskegon though...
  8. Whatareyadointome, Halfie? I can't, I just can't. Wonder if any are on the local CL........
  9. With new daily service between Winnipeg and Cedar Point!
  10. I face the TSA in these here Estados Unidos almost daily. My tax dollars at work, now THAT'S an adventure!! (No offense to my hard-working civil service brethren, I could NOT do your job!)
  11. Cheesus Crust, H-P, never EVER EVER chop the thrusters!! Not lessin' you wanna see nice shiny landing gear struts pokin' thru the top of the wings!!! Also a great way to end up with airspeed indicators and altimeters in your teeth!
  12. Scary juujuu, you speak PUCish fluently...don't have him locked in your basement feeding him greasy burgers, do ya?!?! :dancefool: :clap2:
  13. Not reopening this thread, just saw I didn't reply. Mileage continuously improved to 35, then 38, then 40 mpg. Bike is now parked in my new garage 1200 miles west and 9000 feet above our temp quartes in Ole Miss. Hopefully it doesn't have to sit much longer before we move in permanently or I'll be yankin carbs or going thru gallons of Sea Foam again!
  14. Half-Pipe looks a smidge like Stallone with his face puckered like that. Doesn't have a gatling gun mounted on Tweeks, does he? Riding through little Northwest mountain towns scaring the bejesus out of the locals? Riding past the local jurisdiction yelling "NOTHING IS OVER!!"? Just wish I coulda been there!
  15. My : I had a life-changing encounter with a thunderstorm over New Orleans in 1991 at the start of my airline career. I'd been in bad weather before, including a brush with a funnel cloud, but this changed me. I'm still flying 24 years later, but it's been a huge challenge. Coming back from that scare has taken years, and I'm surprised that my family stuck with me through it all. AND I had Higher help, even though I stayed pissed at Him for years for "letting" it happen to me. We can overcome just about anything, but it takes time and hard work. I know everyone knows this already, but when you are the one having to do the work and put the time in it can really get you down. That's where the three Fs come in: friends, family, and faith. Oops, make that four: forum. Man, you got a lot of friends here! Keep the faith, friend.
  16. Up to a 2-count so far for me. Thinking about getting a sign like they have on military bases and big union shops for the front drive: "327 Drop-free Days, Keep it going!"
  17. I'm 157 pounds so the magic number is around 15º and it's on the crash bar. Dropped it twice so far. First time had to go back in the house after getting on the bike, forgot I had put the sidestand up. Second time was after the move to New Mexico, turning around on a forest road. Front wheel went into a mole hole as I turned and klunk! Both times the engine guard saved any damage, and while I couldn't stop the drop, I slowed it enough that the guard didn't even bend. Someone posted a video here a few months back on how to get the bike back up after a drop, and that worked great.
  18. Mine from Partzilla were NOT OEM profile. When I told them they said that was what is available under that part number now. They work, but the pins have to be forced into the grommet.
  19. What year? That seems to only happen with MKIs I think. Dingy knows more about it. The Ignitech unit he sells takes care of the problem. Oh, 1986. Don't know if that's MKI or MKII.
  20. Ahh. Okay. I have to lean heavily toward a TCI-related problem. Myself and others have experienced issues like yours with TCIs with corrosion lurking inside, or corrosion down-line somewhere in the connectors keeping the TCI from getting the proper voltage to operate correctly. Mine had diodes that had turned to white powder. In your case, since the bike was stored inside before you bought it, and i assume since, I would scour the harness for a connector I missed that is corroded or has damaged wires. Any mice issues where the bike is kept?
  21. Read back thru the thread but don't see which TCI you are running, stock or Ignitech. Could have a bearing on the problem.
  22. Ya, my engrish not so good, from the DEEP south ya know. Lived next to FSU for my first 19 years, musta rooned me. :sign back to topic:Meanwhile, back to the disc question...if I remember not all my caps had the disc, either.
  23. Went to 3 different Yamaha parts sites, could not find "rider's balls" on any of them. Is that the Yamaha name or a colloquialism?
