Oh...I ride with a Scorpion modular...wifemate has a Bilt full face.
-
I have never felt any appreciable breeze coming from the vents near the windshield on my 1st gen. Do feel a teeny bit coming from the steering head area...but not enough to cool me. If I keep the 1st gen, I will get a shorter/wider/vented with recurve Clearview for her. I need the air flow here in the desert.
-
Are you happy with it? YES Does it have the recurve edge at the top? YES Do you have the vent in it and is it worth the extra expense? ABSOLUTELY Is there anything you don't like about it? NOPE If you could change would you and if so what would you switch too? N/A Where is the best place to buy it from? I BOUGHT FROM CLEARVIEW I had one on my VStar 650 Classic...liked it so much I put one on my VStar 950 Tourer. I'm saving pennies to put one on "HiHo Silver"....2nd gen.

Very pretty ride. Like the color a lot.
-
Do a search...I put a picture up showing the difference between my two pipes and some aluminum foil. Never mind...found it...
-
I don't like the color reproduction. I think the color palette sucks. I prefer the JVC. It has a nice little screen and much better exposure control too!

I would purchase a second battery that matches the first. This will give you the best of both worlds, I would think. No mismatch in charging, usage, etc..

Luggage Rack
videoarizona replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Excellent advice, gentlemen! Thanks!! Guess I'll be biting the bullet and paying dealer type price. But that's OK...cause I agree...I prefer OEM accessories and have always felt they are way better made. david -
Read all the older posts about adding a luggage rack to a 2nd gen. YIKES! Drilling holes in a perfectly beautiful Tour Pak??!! Looks like I would have to drill the holes, provide the sealing and back plate to strengthen, etc.. The only question is the two stores mentioned in the previous posts no longer carry the part I guess....no hits. Only choice seems to be direct from Yamaha at a premium price. Anyone have any recent experiences with purchasing a Yamaha luggage rack for a 2nd gen? Thanks, david

89 venture problems
videoarizona replied to mvb1130's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
E1 and E4 error codes on the air system mean the computer board has some loose solder joints. Super easy to fix. There are step by step directions with pics on this site. I can't find it now...but I know it's there...I fixed mine. Took longer to take the computer apart than to fix. About 20 minutes total. My first time too! It's as simple as taking the screws out of the top right panel. You will see a multipin connector going to the air computer panel...unplug. Take the computer panel off and put it on the workbench. Grab a beer. Relax. Take the little box apart. There is a circuit board where the multipin plugs into. Look on the solder side of those pins. Grab your soldering gun and reheat those connections...maybe adding a little solder if they look dry. That's it. Put it together...walk over to bike carrying beer...plug in the multipin connector...turn bike key to accessory position and watch the panel. If it goes through it's stuff...you've solved the problem. Take a swig while patting yourself on the back(don't spill the beer)...and put bike together. Two additional thoughts. 1: Air system only works in Acc position 2: The little computer is slow...so when you select the "front"....wait until you see the word "front" on the panel, then choose the air pressure....same with rear. Always set the front first. I use the "auto" settings...Low, medium, high. OH....if the above doesn't solve the problem....go through the circuit board resoldering all the connections on the solder side of the board. Take your time and don't get things too hot. Just touch the solder point and once it flows...stop. Majority of the E code problems in the air controller board are broken solder joints from vibration and age. David -
Brian, Ed can talk about his products...but I originally used the stickum that came with the lights I bought. Didn't hold well...started to sag in middle. So I tacked them on with little spots of epoxy. They will come off if you carefully pry them....seem to not hurt the plastic (don't ask). But I figure they are there to stay. So far, they have not moved. BTW, I wired mine directly to ACC circuit so they come on with bike. If I had to do it again, I would wire to battery with a switch. Reasoning...they would be great camp lights until camp is setup. They really do light up the area around the front of the bike...and the LED drain would not be enough to worry me...

New tires Going to Shinko's
videoarizona replied to PBJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Blue...that's true. Shinko/Yokohama makes good tires. They bought Yoko's technology and make them in Korea. They stick like glue but wear faster. Trade off...like everything else... -
My 1st gen is doing 75mph with speedo doing 78. Seems to be -3mph across the board. Haven't gone over the century mark... yet.... so can't tell ya about that.

Teeny rant on: I long for the day when police officers no longer accept "I didn't see him" as a valid excuse when a car hits a motorcycle. To my way of thinking....when a driver gets in an accident because he/she "didn't see him", it should not matter whether they hit a bike, a cycle, a train, a plane, or a person....they still hit him and they should be cited! Rant off. Glad you are up and running with a new scoot!
-
I added a strip on each side to my 1st gen two months ago. I like the look...Plus...it adds light directly in front of me when I go scooting across the desert at night....

Thought: When I first got my 89, I was shifting at the low end of the rpm range. Found my mpg's weren't the best. I didn't feel I was lugging the motor...but knew I wasn't working her in her power range. Since then, I've slowly upped my shift points and enjoy watching the tach climb up a bit before I shift. I'm also leaving it in the lower gears around town. One thing for sure, my mpg's have gone up! From 36ish to 39-42ish. Big difference. Been an interesting transition for me. I also really enjoy 3rd gear...about 30mph...then roll on the throttle. Easy acceleration until the tach gets 1/2 way up there ... then the power comes on in rush! YIKES! I do have a little trouble with shifting memory as I also have a VStar 950 twin...but it's redline is like the Venture..7500! Yet it pulls nicely at low RPM's and gets good mpg's too. I shift low...and the scoot seems to like it.... Glad you are settling down into the Venture. I'm with you...I feel it's going to be an excellent long distance machine. david

Did he give you credit for your work?

Wonder how it would do against an early 1st gen?

metzler tires on 86 venture
videoarizona replied to Mike R's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I ran what Yamaha said and got cupping then separation. Suggest go to the max on each tire... -
Hmmm...why wash the scoot? Doesn't get "dirty" out here where I live...just dusty. When that happens, I go faster...blows the dust off.

Wishes for fast healing! Prayers Up! david
