Air Vent
videoarizona replied to TheCoffsKid's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I purchased a Clearview with re-curve and vent for my VStar 950 Tourer. No fairing. Amazing difference! My wife says there is far less buffeting with the Clearview VS the standard windscreen. The vent makes a huge difference for me...with it open...the air coming in decreases the low pressure area around my chest...keeping buffeting to a minimum. Closed, there is more buffeting coming up from underneath the screen and lowers. I'm thinking doing the same for my 89 1st Gen. The 1st Gen is already fairly "quiet" sitting in the saddle at speed, but I would like to have just a bit more protection around my hands, more protection for the wife during the cooler months. And NEED more air flow in warm weather! Since we can ride year round in Arizona, I want that vent for the warmer days! They are expensive, but worth it IMHO. Every once in a while they will have a blemish screen available at a good discount. I've bought two screens from CLearview, both blemished, and the scratches were so tiny I had to look closely to see them. They will ship the screen to you with a protective covering on it. Mount it and go for a ride. If you like it, take the covering off and keep it. If you don't, send it back. They will take it back as long as the screen protective film is still on. You can see through the film, not the best, but good enough for a quick check out. Hope this helps... david -
Yep...I would make a call to the Honda regional office and explain what happened. Regional manufacturer offices can and usually do handle problems like this...! Let's hope Honda Regional has good people!

I'm trying to find a place for two on my 1st Gen. Be perfect where I already have LED strings under cowl....attached to running lights inside the turn light housing up front. But ...what do I do with the LED's?!

Judging from the looks of the unit, it seems Randy has the only cleaning thought. It looks like the back side is sealed...?? -

Vito...I found these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-VENTURE-ROYALE-SIDE-STAND-KILL-SWITCH-26H-82566-/220833185646?forcev4exp=true&item=220833185646&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261815517488?item=261815517488&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466&rmvSB=true By the way, did you check the switch to see if the wires were corroded or the switch needed/can be cleaned? -
Tommy, Does look nice! Although I'm really beginning to enjoy my 1st Gen 89, I was watching a 2nd Gen 99 on EBay. Didn't make reserve...but I do like the silver color. Matches my VStar 950T! Don't see how I could afford three scoots, though....sigh.

On my little ride to the store today, I was thinking the same thing. How much fun it is to ride a Venture. It is so easy to zip around corners, out accelerate just about anything on the road and still get to enjoy the wind. It's big for me, but I think I'll keep her around for a while....
-
I always knew the Venture was a big bike....but that really didn't sink in until I went to store today...and parked next to a Fiat. Yikes! What were you thinking I meant???

Tricia, Yep, need to keep snacks on bike or in pocket. AND try to eat 5 small meals a day with two of those being healthy snacks. Maybe try some dried fruit. Dried apricots and such come in small bite size portions that will allow you to only eat enough to raise BS back up. Just a thought...I lived with a Type 1 Fragile for 8 months and learned a lot... Good luck... david

Lost Spark and Tach at Low RPM
videoarizona replied to sailing62's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mark, I know there is a cure to your problem and the clue is no tach.... I just don't remember what! Suggest you do a search using no tach as part of your search terms.... I'm almost positive the answer is here on site. Guys and gals here are great and very knowledgeable! Hope you join up.. Best bux you will ever spend!! Update. Just had a thought. The TCI is the computer that fires the plugs via the coils. The TCI is located under the battery box. If it's corroded inside or the connections are corroded... You will lose a plug or two and no tach. Sometimes is a simple matter of moving TCI to above the airbox and cleaning up connectors. The wires are long enough to move unit. You may have to open computer and clean out gunk. Possible you will need to replace some old capacitors too. The TCI is fired by sensors.... That's a small possibility though. These bikes are reliable and easy to fix. All these issues can be found searching this forum. Also suggest you read up on the First generation tech area where members have posted notes, pictures and more on all types of repairs... -
Question: A friend of mine saw a guy with a long beard at the Home Depot yesterday just south of Tucson on I-19. He was next to a 1989 blue Venture like mine. Anyone we know fit the description? Thanks, david

Passenger Headset/RC Wires

My Radio Shack has a small section of pull out drawers that has a lot of small parts (surprise to me). And I did see one chassis mount 5 pin connector in one of the small bins. FWIW....I don't remember seeing a drawer system like that at a RS in Phoenix. Maybe it's what the store manager wants to carry??? -

I haven't had any surgery on the back yet....but have been researching it. I hope you have been too. My lady needs surgery in her lower back and we have gone over multiple doctors and techniques to get the various opinions. Best way we have found to get as much information as she needs to make a decision she is comfortable with. So far, she hasn't found a doc she likes... If you haven't searched the net for info...may I suggest: Learn More | Laser Spine Institute Back Surgery: Types, Recovery, Risks, and Benefits Back surgery: When is it a good idea? - Mayo Clinic Hope any of these will help answer your questions....

Ah Man.....
videoarizona replied to videoarizona's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Almost 7 hours....a few drips from by-pass valve once I started the bike....then nothing. No leak yet by the hose clamp. Guess I'll check again later tonight.. -
Ah Man.....
videoarizona replied to videoarizona's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Temp gauge has been reading fine. Takes a while to warm up, which now I understand, since the valve was closer to the by-pass position than the normal position . I just turned the valve to the proper position...moved easily... and am going to warm the bike up and watch the whole system. Wondering if it was on by-pass due to a warped thermostat cover or other issue. If no other problems pop up...I'll cut the hose clamp off and replace the hose...it's getting pretty soft. Ordered the bypass valve kit...and will do all that when it comes in.
