So August 22 my front fender on my 2005 RSV came loose just enough to wedge against the tire and stop the wheel from rotating. The result was lots of pain and a CT scan that showed a 4mm spot on my left lung. (see the thread what the h just happened?) I saw my doctor this week to go over my normal diabetes blood work and to discuss what the CT scan showed. It's not cancer! Just a 4mm spot that both the CT specialist at the trauma center and my doctor compare to a "birth mark". WHOO HOO! And the news just keeps getting better. My type 2 diabetes is finally under control and possibly might go away if I loose some more weight. (45 pounds since December, 25 more to go) A1C was down to 6.1 down from at one point 8.3. The wreck must have knocked the sleep apnea out of me because I haven't used my c-pap machine since the accident and I am sleeping great and feel great when I wake up. My doctor made everyone that saw me the day I went to see him right after the accident come in to the exam room to see the "amazing" recovery and extremely fast healing that I have going on. My youngest brother, the one that has lived in Kauai for the last 32 years talked me into trying some stuff called Tea Tree Oil. He surfs every day that there is a big enough wave to ride and uses it on cuts and scrapes he gets when he hits coral or rocks. My doctor had heard of it and said to keep using it because it is working and it looks like I might not even have any noticeable scars. Being the practicable joker my doctor is (and I thought I was the king) he said to the staff standing around " OK, who won the pool? No body answered. He looked at me and said "then you did but since you didn't have any money in the pool you don't win either" He then said the pool was a joke but after I left his office in August they all felt I would contract sepsis and would not be back to see them.
I am one of the lucky ones.
Wednesday I purchased a new full face helmet, new armored all season jacket and armored over pants.
please rethink what you wear when you ride. I know it doesn't look cool to be all covered up like some scared sissy but the pain involved with road rash is excruciating, trust me, I was eating 7.5mg of oxycodone with 325 mg. of acetaminophen every 4 hours for 9 days. I don't like to take drugs (of any kind) so I quit taking them on the tenth day and toughed it out after that.
Our RSVs are awesome machines that will do everything possible to protect us and the right riding gear will help immensely but neither one will do it all and I know that. But why not put the odds (yes I do live in Vegas) in our favor. I will from now on.
