  1. I mowed yesterday, went for a 2hr ride today. Warm in Indy. Like a dummy, I fertilized 2 weeks ago, Fall Food, boy did it perk up with last weeks rain.
  2. The sad part is, many of us use Google or ________, and they give us the answer they want us to see. If you type: 'what is global warming' or 'should guns be restricted' as examples, depending on where you are, feeds a different response. It is called mind manipulation, and it is being done at the massive level, regional level, global level. Ever wonder why we stand and fight more and more for a position we feel emotions about, because the internet keeps feeding us based on wherever we get our information, or tries changing or position, all done with high dollar tracking computers and algorithms. Companies pay big money to have this information about us. 'We are not the customers, we are the products'. End of rant :), really good show, everyone should watch it.
  3. Thanks cowpuc. Just so everyone knows, the link cowpuc gave is NOT the documentary that is on Netflix, it is a just a conversation about the documentary with Katie Couric.
  4. No MarCarl, if you have Netflix do a quick search. You and cowpuc would like it. Edit: There is a Trailer too. This might link you https://www.netflix.com/title/81254224?source=35
  5. Hands down, the best educational documentary I’ve ever watched. Many of the original senior executives from companies like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google, YouTube, etc discuss AI (artificial intelligence) and the revolution. Friends, scary stuff, scary statistics, and by far the greatest world crisis we have. Covid, Trump/Biden, global warming, oil drilling, gun laws, nothing compares with what is going on under our noses, especially to our youth, our kids, our grandkids, but to you and I as well. Truly a must watch (and no, it’s nothing political). Enjoy, post your comments after you watch or if you have 👍
  6. Man, my favorite Lake. Done the Houseboat many times there, and you are right, bad cell service, but that's a blessing. Enjoy the colors and hope you have good weather.
  7. You could always just patch a piece in. Cutting and flaring the ends is pretty easy task. Places like Autozone would have a loaner tool and probably the fittings you need.
  8. man, sorry to hear this, prayers for his family. He helped me a few times, and I thought his Frankenstein bike was pretty cool. RIP
  9. I love riding in the Fall, Farmers busy, leaves changing. However here in central Indiana, it's been a month since any rain, I fear the leaves will not be very colorful this year. Hope I'm wrong.
  10. Looks like they use to leave the Indy 500 back in the 60-70s. Oh my that infield was a site for a young lad as I was then.
  11. I never have problems with the site. If it's hacked, my email address is not my main one, it's my forums / craigslist one. I use an app and my Voip home Comcast uses it, it's called Nomorobo. Seriously has eliminated 98% of my junk calls. I also am very cautious who I give my cell phone number to.
  12. Also take a peak at this thread about getting her up on the center stand.. Might help ? https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?145754-Difficulty-with-center-stand&highlight=center+stand
  13. Putting it on the center stand, definitely an art to it. It's all about the process, and a little grit for sure. Start off with good stiff sole shoes / boots. Maybe ask someone to grab the back and assist you in the beginning.
  14. I'm not sure I follow, but the rear and front left are one unit, linked. The line that goes to the front left, up under the fairing is a manifold, that is notorious for storing air (it is the high point in the system). After you bleed the front left, and rear, let it sit, then bleed up at the manifold.
  15. My 83 drops a bit, but I'm a fat arse too, lol. I keep mine at 45 psi, and holds pressure year round. Here is a link to part # break down. I'm not sure what you need, but copy and Google the p/n, many parts are readily available at various places. https://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/l/yam/50042475f8700209bc787e25/1983-xvz12tk-parts
  16. Welcome to the Forum and great looking ride. My 83 will run up to the red line before the fan comes on, short trips, sitting at lights, warms it up. Never goes much higher than the initial red line, and comes back down once in motion again. As well as fluid changes, I would look at the date codes on the tires. If they are older than 7-8 years, I'd replace them. I'm not sure trial member have access to all the manuals etc in the technical forum, but I promise you, $12 / year will be the best money you spend. There are geniuses around here that keep our old girls running. Here is the basic manual for the 83, should help with some questions you have. https://www.venturerider.org/manuals/1983-owners.pdf
  17. I've got an 83, so not the same model. You probably can find p/n s in the technical library, great part diagrams. Congrats on the bike, parts are still relatively easy to find. A word of caution, the back / front left can be finicky to bleed the air, the highest point is in a manifold up under fairing by the steering neck. It loves to hide air up there. Most of us say, buy Made in Japan parts, not Chinese parts, always.
  18. Went for 70 mile ride, no issues, so ??? I will add it is rather cool temps, mids 70s, so bike ran cool. I will post any further observations or concerns, or if I acts up again. Thanks
  19. That would cost me more than the meter did. I'll look a it, maybe pitch it and go get a new free one, it's several years old. Well, I'm headed for a ride, and to pick up some new plugs. Fingers crossed. That red wire connector, it was plugged together but not great, maybe another potential fix? I really should replace it, it's the one connected to a big fuse.
  20. temperamental thing, I breath and I swear they change, see above comments
  21. Thanks Patch. Dang, I should have checked the relays when I had each one unplugged in my hand. I have often considered replacing them, especially the fuel pump one, I just could never figure out which one that was. I guess if I worked on following the schematics and wire colors I would figure it out. My ignition coils, high? I did measure at the tci connection per the above pic you posted. I used a Harbor Freight free multimeter, if that could throw some % of error in the reading. I would say they are original, I bought the bike in 2012 at 20k miles, it now has 45k miles. I can do the ignition secondary check. Is it okay if I do it from the tci to the sparkplug boot? In reading, I see that I am terribly over do for new spark plugs (like I have 12k miles on my current ones)... Also in reading one of FlyingFools posts, seems that one of the red main wires that come off the battery power all this stuff. Seems years ago, I had an issue with a plug on one of those red wires, I will investigate that today as well. Thanks for holding my hand, it is much appreciated.
  22. Great reads. If my issue comes back, I will do as you did, one by one. Interesting about the grounds in left fairing, My bike fell over (kickstand broke), gas gauge has not worked ever since, feeling it's a ground issue, and never did come across any threads that discussed the ground in the fairing. I had some dirty connections, everything is original. Nothing seemed broken or corroded, but every thing was dirty. my issue does seem to be similar as yours, but I really need to pay attention better. Thanks, I'll keep this posted. If I need to dig deeper, I'll need assistance
  23. So to FlyingFool. Battery: I tested after my ride yesterday, at 12.88, 24 hrs after ride, no tender 12.68. I think that is acceptable? Charging while running, voltage climbs up to 14+ with hand held meter just revving, seemed normal operation, I did not record exact numbers. Riding the meter on the bike generally shows 14 riding, down to maybe 12.5 when sitting at a stop light. I probably don't need to put it on my tender, sometimes I'll run a few short errands, then it will sit for a week, then it gets ornery to start. Still with original 2 brush starter and original cables, I know, disappointing. I have added a ground, and acts acceptable under hot starts, has never failed me, and I have tested the fact that I can easily push start my warmed up bike I probably should have it load tested, but then again, I probably should buy a new one.. I'm cheap too... Patch: That schematic was simple enough for me. Ignition coils Cold= 3.8, 3.9, 3.8, 3.8 Hot after a 60 mile ride today = 4.1, 4.0, 3.9, 4.0 Pickup coils Cold = 115, 116, 116, 116 Hot after 60 mile ride = 136.8, 142.3, 143.3, 143.4 So as stated, took it for a ride, rode it like I stole it. No issues, rode great ! Did unplugging and re plugging every visible connection, find and correct a bad connection? Is it waiting to fail on my 2 hr ride tomorrow? Is it wait to fail when I'm in the country with no cell service. I certainly will try and do a better job understanding exactly what happens with the tach, the dash, and all if it happens again. Any other advise or things to watch for are welcomed, but until it acts up again, I don't know how I can troubleshoot. I will carry my meter and notes.
  24. So what is the difference between not firing on all 4 jugs or loss of power? It is not like a single cylinder is dropping out, it's like tach goes to zero, but that is something else I need to confirm. I printed that schematic, wow, it's actually at a level I can understand. Is that the work of Dingy, I think I stumbled across it when looking? I need to watch some youtube tutorials for using a meter, but I think I might be able to do this. So I should record all these measurements at a cold start, and then after a ride, and take the meter along and if it acts up, stop, unplug the tci and check? Good thing my tci is duck taped to the top of my airbox, very easy access.
  25. Thanks Patch. I do have a couple meters that I use for AC and DC and continuity, etc, but never really dug into measuring resistance and oms, how etc. Maybe I'll be learning My thinking if it were ignition coils, I assume there are 4, would all them die at once. It's not typically a single cylinder popping type of miss, it's an all dead type, that leads me thinking more along the pickup coils, and why I was originally thinking tci. ps: my 83 side stand switch came part of bike, and shows as an error in the computer monitor when activated in gear. Not saying something internal isn't amuk, but does not show any symptoms.
