  1. Trader is spot on. For me however, (also found this tip on this site), I place on center stand, loosen reservoir lid, squeeze a few times, tie clutch handle off with rope and leave set overnight. Gravity works best. Next day, you could still have a small amount of air in the top banjo, just depress clutch, loosen banjo bolt, air will spit, tighten banjo while clutch is still depressed, and repeat. Next, do the same down at the bleeder screw, at the clutch slave, under black square rubber flapper by kickstand (middle gear cover). Works every time. One more bit of advise, I joined this forum in May 2013, best $12 I've ever spent, hands down. The shop manuals are worth 2x that, plus everyone helps out, and the searches and knowledge is unbelievable.
  2. I've drilled a couple holes in side covers, and use black zip ties, work great, even carry a few.
  3. On my 83, if I am sitting in 1st gear, clutch pulled in, put down kick stand, it dies.
  4. 1983 Venture I have the dreaded drip by kickstand, losing a bit out of clutch reservoir daily, and getting worse so I plan to replace the clutch slave. Not super savy, I thought I'd just replace rather than try to rebuild. I have a couple P/N questions: The Push Lever Comp: 1FK-16381-11-00, does that come complete, or do I also need to buy the Seal Kit (26H-W0098-00-00)? OR anything else? Is the Middle gear cover gasket p/n = 3JP-15451-01-00 ? I've got a couple conflicting p/n's and I hate to order parts wrong. Should I order the copper washer 90430-06014-00 ? Any feedback or advise would be great, Thanks I've found a couple detailed threads on replacing, looks do-able. Spencer
  5. That answered my question. There is no adjustment available with the front switch as there is with the back. Nice pdf file.
  6. I have an 83 Venture. Is there a way to adjust the brake light switch for the front? Mine turns the brake light on at 1/2" squeeze, and I'd like it to be a bit more sensitive. I pulled the rubber boot back, it didn't look like it had any type of adjustment. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
  7. Mine says 91 octane, and Leaded. I run mid grade, runs fine. I'll try 1/2 tank 87 next time, if it pings, I'll top off with premium. I always find different stations do different things. I'm not a fan of BP, like Phillips 66.
  8. Any difference between the 'Service Manual' or 'Workshop Manual'? I'm wanting to get a manual for my Gen 1, thought I'd get a download version, found a link on this site and does not work. Any recommendations or input would be appreciated. Never Mind, I found a great link on this site, and I can not figure out how to delete my post.
  9. ya, I get that brake fluid is bad stuff, done a little work on older cars. I doubt if I change out to Dot 5. I really need to order a shop manual as well, so I understand the workings...
  10. I think I can do it... I'll order the parts, get some fine circle clip pliers and giver it a whirl, and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the write up.
  11. I can't find anywhere in the tech forum with this detailed, I've looked for hours before my first post. I find some comments here and there. It doesn't sound too bad, and I've even heard that if you are careful and leave reservoir lid off, squeeze clutch slowly a couple times, it will burp air out. Any other feedback would be appreciated as well, Thanks
  12. Hi all. Newbie here, bought an 83 Venture, first bike in over 20 years. Nice old bike, 22k miles. My question, and I've read much on this, but I'm not the sharpest bike mechanic. Anyways, my reservoir is leaking right where the plunger goes into the reservoir up by the hand lever. I found the rebuild kits, but how hard is it. It looks like I need some snap ring pliers. I'm a handyman for house repairs so fairly handy, just have a lot to learn about bikes. Can anyone point me to a write up on how to do this start to finish? Is there any reason I'd be better off finding a local mechanic? Will I have to bleed the system, or just refill reservoir? I'm very nervous about this.... Thanks
