  1. I had a similar issue, I dropped my front tire pressure down to 32, rode for a 100 miles, back up to 38 and all is good. I find 40 a bit too high.
  2. I've looked at the mods, Dingys extra wire etc. All seem great. I'm hoping to afford a 4 brush, the consensus is do it... We have a local cycle recycle in the city, hope to find one there. Actually Yammer Dan has a great question, does anyone know? Looking at the links Michel sent, there seems to be a Phillips screw in the side of the 4 brush, ???
  3. I wondered the same about snowmobile starter, they look similar. I did snug connection on starter, seems better, still is not right. Since it has not actually failed me yet, and I am a big guy and tried a push starter in case it ever does, and it fired very easy, I'm holding off unless necessary. Tight on funds right now. I actually feel my connection issue on the starter is the primary issue, and I plan to take off and mess with it in the fall so if I break it, I can replace with a 4 brush starter.
  4. I've replaced my battery this spring and everything was fine. Now I get the dreaded hot (no start, or maybe a slow drag and start). I've cleaned cables, tightened all. Added an additional ground, but when I mess with power wire at starter, the whole mess (stud and all) turns and I'm afraid of breaking. I'm considering just buying a replacement 2nd Gen starter, as others suggest. I can not seem to find anything reasonable on the net, or ebay, and I'm not sure what P/N I should buy. (I have an 83). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks
  5. DNA, just today I replaced mine with Napa 3011. Perfect fit, high flow, and I also bought some nice yellow (I know) 1/4 very flexible gas line. Everything went easy, and very pleased.
  6. Got bike to start and took for ride. No idea why, turned key typical 1-2 clicks.
  7. I went to get bike out 1st time, I heard fuel pump click maybe 10 times, bike did not start, low battery charge. Charged battery, now I don't have any fuel pump clicks. I've taken both hoses off, released pressure. I've checked the blue and black wires, I get voltage when I turn key on. Could it be fuel pump gone bad?
  8. Did you bump the kill switch, been there, done that.:whistling:
  9. Although I think Rougeray said it perfect, for me, a slight skim of high temp rtv on every gasket keeps the leaks away 100% of the time. Note: slight skim, both sides, and helps hold the gasket.
  10. I have an 83, got weird vibrations after new front tire at 45mph. I dropped my fork pressure down to almost nothing, vibration went away. play with that and tire pressure, mine is super sensitive to variations.
  11. Possible gas line hose collapsing under vacuum? Some of those hoses are very thin walled

  14. Hi Guys, I know I said I had that bearing spacer between the brake arm and wheel, and I still think I do, and I was going to order the washer (#27) I'm definitely missing, but could you double check the attached picture and see if you agree that the green arrow points to the bearing spacer (#4).
  15. Thanks Brad, I have the bearing spacer, everything except the washer/spacer. I'll fix it, just pisses me off. I do as much maintenance as I can on my bike and cars, I just needed the tires installed, and didn't think they could screw that up...
  16. As Syscrusher points out, that axel does not even extend beyond frame in that pic. Must be a pic off a different bike, maybe your 04?, not similar to 1st gen. Also, aharbi, the brake mechanism seems to line up correctly, it is still flush against wheel as it should be, however I'm not sure if the structural integrity of the axel head against the brake arm. No Yama shop will touch this bike due to 'old age', and the local shop only does helmets and some tires. I can bark all I want at them, but I'll end up buying a spacer and doing it myself if everyone feels it is important enough to do so. Others?
  17. What happens if there is not Hate to get spacer/washer, pull axel, if it's not critical.
  18. So, I replaced my tires the other day, went with the original Bridgestone Spitfires. However, I was noticing, that it seems that the local shop left off a washer, so I think. I just remember the axel sticking out so I could see the complete hole, see pic. I've looked at the parts breakdown and not sure what side of the brake caliber bracket the washer goes on. I've attached a picture of what I have, hoping someone might let me know if they see a problem. It seems to ride great, has a very slight vibration at 45mph, probably didn't balance perfect. hoping it goes away after broken in. thanks
  19. I don't care what mine gets, I just love to ride her.
  20. And what's wrong with stud 2x4s to look at while doing your business. But, cement board or backer board, you'll find it wherever the sell ceramic tile. Lowes, Home Depot, Menards. Use the coated screws designed for the product so they don't rust. You can finish out cement board good enough to paint. Oil base paint for that environment would be best.
  21. Mine use to stink, and I simply tightened the air box clamps, and replaced the air filter. Even after long hot ride, minimal gas odor.
  22. Well, I'm not sure if I owe $5, but over the weekend I stopped and got gas. Inadvertently hit the stop / kill button. Went to start, nothing. Thinking it was kickstand switch, farted around wiggling wires. Finally, went inside for a soda break, went back to bike, sat down, looked at button and light bulb clicked:lightbulb:. Fired right up, and left. I must have spent 20 minutes looking and puzzled, almost was going to call buddy with trailer.
  23. I cleaned everything, still has slight drip, Wires look dry, pretty certain coming from push rod seal. darnit. currently stuffed a sock in cavity, only a couple drops each ride. Should be fine around town, will take out on longer rides. Sock, duct tape, and hammer are the best tools.
  24. Condor, I even put a new crush washer on it, it seems like it's coming from above, dripping on exhaust. I'm not feeling this oil seal behind the slave is easy. Actually I felt the slave was easy, there's just small amount of room. Any other suggestions?
  25. Yesterday, replaced my Clutch Slave, and was a success. A slight pain, but success. This morning, had a small drip of oil beneath bike by kickstand, and if I was a betting man, and based on what I saw yesterday with middle gear cover off, that small oil seal around the pushrod to the clutch is leaking slightly. Has anyone ever replaced it? Not sure how my hands would get in there if that was the leak, and don't know if it's a simple pull out push in type seal. Appreciate any 2 cents.
