  1. Some of you may have followed my effort to sell my Goldwing, after it sold I wondered what I would do to fill the void , well about a month ago I figured it out and went and bought this, just spent the whole day washing , clay baring and waxing it. Certainly gave me something to do and it is fun to drive. I am sticking around monitoring the forums, hoping I can still be of help from time to time.

  2. Hey Guys (and Gals) lets crunch some numbers for a moment and see if we can come to the same conclusion I came to about the front forks of the First Gen. Yamaha Venture Royale. With the VMAX weighing in at around 579 pounds, and having 40MM fork tubes, and the Venture Royale weighing in at 785 pounds, and having, (you guessed it) 40MM fork tubes to say that the front end on the Venture Royale is on the "Light Duty" size is, in my opinion an understatement! Now Yamaha attempted to deal with this issue with the introduction of the Yamaha Royal Star Venture, but at 41MM the front forks on the Second Gen. are laughable at best! Of course, the riding style of the Second Gen. is different from the riding style of the First Gen. (In my opinion) A set of 50MM front fork tubes on a First Gen. would have suited me just fine. (1 9/16" vrs. 1 15/16") Considering that the First Gens. used the same fork lowers that were used on the XS1100 (which were 39MM lowers) Yamaha had enlarged the fork tube bore in the lowers as far as they dared to go in the 80's, early 90's. If they would have gone to a 50MM upper fork tube (as they should have, given the increased weight of the bike) that would have required the recasting of the upper and lower triple trees, the lower fork tubes, not to mention the increased 50MM upper fork tubes, which at the time, would have been the largest fork tubes that were ever used on a production motorcycle in their product line. (And still is to this day!) Plus you would have added 10 pounds to the weight of the bike, with ALL of it being on the front end. With my own personal riding style being that of "I am only vertical when I am at a stop light", I have learned to embrace the "horror" of the sloppy front end of a First Gen. in those sweeper turns where parts of your bike that should not touch the ground sometimes do. I have often though of adding a "Mid Brace" between the top of the lower fork tube travel and the bottom of the triple tree to see if that would firm up the front end. If there was some interest in this from the other forum members, I may try to introduce one as I plan to retire in early 2022 and will be able to turn all of my attention to my "Little Shop By The Creek". Feel free to comment on this upgrade that I plan to at least make for my 87'VR, and if it pans out, I will add one to my 89'VR as well. If you are so inclined, maybe I will add one to your bike as well. As a Machinist, I have lived my life making my bikes "Better". If the upgrades were solid, I offered them to the other forum members. Many have used them, some have not. If there was another front end from ANY other motorcycle on the planet that would improve the high speed handling of a First Gen. I would have figured out a way to adapt it to my 87'VR. (And believe me I have looked!) ALL of the sport bike front ends are WAY to short, and can't handle the extra weight of the First Gen. So, short of adding a totally custom Olins, multi-thousand dollar front end to a bike I paid $800.00 for, "I am stuck with what I got", so to speak. I hope I didn't steal this thread with this post. These were just my thoughts, for what they were worth. Earl

  4. I hate to think about it! If I couldn't do 2 wheels, I'd certainly go to 3. My 1st love before bikes, are vintage muscle cars, I just can't afford one right now. I definitely like your new toy and would do something like that in a heartbeat, enjoy your new ride 👍

  5. Something that hasn't been mentioned: check the seal on the gas cap if you find water in the tank.

  6. I'm thinking to get a semi, maybe safer that way,,, with a sleeper maybe, and a shower as well,,, and if I get all that, might add a fridge. Looks good on yah,, enjoy it while you can.

  8. Oh sure!!! You know the rule: if there are no pictures it didn't happen, but in this case I'll take your word for it. Glad you all had a good time, 'course that is not unusual when VentureRiders get together,,,, actually, it's more or less expected.

  10. I agree loose connections create resistance. Resistance creates heat. Heat creates more resistance which creates more heat which eventually reaches a point where plastic connectors melts and electrical connections or connected components fail completely. International trucks were notorious for having ignition switch fires for this very reason. Also when installing a relay switch check the load/amp rating of the relay. Just because it is a relay switch does not guaranty it won't overheat, It must be rated high enough to carry the load put upon it. This goes for the load carrying wires and terminals as well. If you do not increase the size of the wire to match the load placed upon it, it will overheat as well.

  11. Bluebeard and I got to test ride them in Daytona @ bike week a few years back. I thought it had good power, although I think I left it in "sport" mode most of the ride as we were in traffic and I wanted to be able to scoot if I needed to. In the video he talks about all his years only one RSV has showed up to his class. Guess who that was? (Barrycuda) I think I saw one of his videos where he rode another well riding bike few bought, A Victory. But Polaris decided to spend money trying to entice nostalgic riders to Indian. The problem I see with that is A: its not even the same bike they are trying to reminisce about B: Those that rode to "old" Indians are dead or aint riding anymore. If you look at their styling from when they started up to know they have modernized the look on some of the bikes. The Yamaha does ride "hot" to be sure, but any air cooled bike is going to.

  12. Hey Graham, I apologize, my friend! I just checked your profile AFTER I posted about this thread. Tractor Supply might be a bit of a ride for you, LOL!! Surely you must mow grass in the UK, and have lawn mower repair shops? We have a farm supply store chain in my area called Tractor Supply, and over the years I have solved many problems with my Ventures by shopping there, and thinking "Outside The Box" so to speak. I am sure you have a store similar to this in the UK. One more thing Graham, After you have added the filter, if the filter hangs too close to the ground, cut off some of the overflow line to return the end of the filter to it's original position. Again, I apologize for not paying closer attention to your location. But rest assured, the fix is sound advice! Earl

  13. Hey Graham, If this is indeed the issue, then go to a lawn mower shop, (or Tractor Supply) and pick up a small inline fuel filter that will fit the diameter of the overflow line. POINT THE FLOW ARROW OF THE FILTER TOWARDS THE GROUND, (Away for the gas tank) to allow the vapors to pass through the filter. These filters have a crude backflow preventer which will keep the water from getting sucked into the gas tank. II personally have only seen this on two First Gens. and I used this cure for both.   14. I almost sure it's fuel related ... the reason I've got this in my head (after seeing it)... the other week whilst in light rain, she ran fine until I went through a puddle .... after that it started stuttering and struggling with low power

  15. VentureRider.Org was started on July 21st, 2004. The object of this site is very simple. To bring together folks who enjoy friendly discussion of the Yamaha Venture, Venture Royale, Royal Star Venture and Royal Star motorcycles. What started as a very small group of owners has become the most active site on the Internet dedicated to these bikes. Though most of us share a passion for these particular bikes, we welcome all riders who enjoy the company of a friendly community of riders who have a desire to lend a hand when needed, share a cold drink when possible and simply enjoy the company of other riders. On August 15th 2006 there was a major server crash and we lost two years worth of messages and member information. At that time, we had over 3600 folks registered here. After a total rebuild of the site, the numbers are still coming back and the great technical information lost is being reposted as we continue on. This is a very informal group. We don't feel the need for a lot of club officers, rules, regulations. We do have some basic guidelines for our organization though. These are guidelines that the majority of the members reached a consensus on long ago. Edited by V7Goose: The original intent of the founding members was that this site is, always has been and always will be free to all. Don Nelson, Freebird, spends almost unimaginable time and effort personally creating and maintaining this site for the benefit of all members, and for five years he personally covered 100% of the costs for software, hosting, bandwidth, etc. A few members donated to Don in an effort to help out, but they were only a small percentage of the members here. In 2009, Don and his family were beset by some unexpected health issues and large medical expenses that forced him to make some hard decisions about continuing to spend his own money on this site. As a result, the members here were quite vocal that we needed to implement some form of membership fee so that those of us who enjoy this site would all begin to share in the cost. At this time, the forums are open to all to read but registration is required for posting a new message or replying to an existing message. Registration is just $12/year, is easy to do and helps to protect us against spam. Just as important is the fact that this site is PG rated. There are a lot of sites on the Internet where people can look at pornographic materials, use vulgar language, etc. We do not need that here. By keeping this site PG rated we are able to reach a wide range of people. Please respect this simple guideline when posting here. Although we do not have many rules, keeping the PG rating in all things would be Rule #1. We have also tried to keep political discussions to a minimum here. Many people have very strong political opinions, including me. Again, there are a lot of places on the Internet to discuss politics and I've never seen any good from mixing politics with motorcycle discussion. What starts off as a rational discussion always seems to turn into a heated debate and it usually gets personal before it ends. All of the same things can be said for religious discussions. Rule #2 would be that politics and religion are two subjects that will not be tolerated. The last rule, Rule #3, is that all discussions need to remain civil. That is not to say that we do not expect disagreements, and even some "lively" discussions where it is clear that opinions are held strongly by some individuals. It does mean that personal attacks and insults are not acceptable. Our primary focus here is motorcycles, motorcycle touring, technical discussion, etc. This site would get pretty boring though if no other discussion was allowed. We have become much more than a website here. We have become friends and many of us have met in person as well as here on the site. It was the motorcycles that brought us together but it's the friendships that keep us together. As in face to face meetings, conversations other than motorcycles will often come up. We have specific areas for just that type of discussion and we encourage folks to please try to post in the appropriate areas. If a mistake is made and something is posted in the wrong area...it's no big deal...we will either overlook it or move it. The main thing folks is that this site should be not only helpful but fun as well. I hope that we all remember that first and foremost, we are friends. This is the kindest and most considerate bunch of folks I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. There are no cliques here and no secret groups within our group. If you are new here, simply introduce yourself and you will be warmly welcomed.
