  1. Despite the ups and downs in the weather here in SE Pa, I took advantage of the change and rode the bike to and from work and will do the same again tomorrow which will be the warmest day of the week. Thanks to the heated grips and seat on a 40° temp ride. So folks, it is time to wipe down your bikes and go for a ride. Always be safe.

  2. I have a 2001 Yamaha XVZ13TF . This winter I installed a Garmin Zumo XT on the bike. The Zumo when connected to my iPhone’s Bluetooth was useful for the mapping app on the Zumo, but not for any audio, YET. I then added a Bluetooth receiver to the bike which also connects to the Zumo. Now I can listen to my iPhones Music, SiriusXM, iHeartRadio, etc. thru the bikes headset or speakers. Adding the Bluetooth receiver also allowed me to receive and play, or read, text messages and voicemails on the Zumo. Without the Bluetooth receiver the Zumo will not accept these messages from the iPhone. I was not particularly interested in receiving messages as it is a distraction, but it is quite simple to click the notification and play them. To install the Bluetooth receiver I removed the front of the fairing and then unplugged the aux jack cable near the cassette player from the receiver amplifier. I then plugged the Bluetooth adapter into the aux input of the receiver, no adapters needed, very simple. For power I spliced the Bluetooth power wires into the 12v aux power port in the fairing. The adapter I purchased is an “NVX Universal Bluetooth Adapter - Waterproof Audio Receiver - Auto, Marine”. Spring has finally arrived and I took my first ride of the year with the new Garmin and Bluetooth and they worked wonderfully.

  3. I have found that at minus 10 degrees , no wind and a dry road a 15 - 20 minute ride beats sitting in the coffee shop talking about a bike ride ... But I did stop in at coffee shop after the ride to warm up with a hot drink ..And besides that a ride down the road even on a cool day like does the bike a lot of good I agree with this comment! It seems to be a much more spirited ride as bike likes the colder temp! Also does the BODY and MIND good!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not have any heated options on bike or clothing. Just make sure I have liners and extra shirt or my Frog Toggs in saddle bags to put over coat to lessen wind penetration As soon as rain stops I will try to get out again as temp is to be around 5 to 7deg cel today. Was out the other day blowing snow with my modified lawn tractor.

  5. Ignition Relay Ordered and Received. Bought TWO Ehdis 30amp/40amp 5-pin relays (two to a box) for $9.73 off ebay. Installed to replace original relay and now all is well. Posting this if it helps anybody in sourcing a replacement Ignition Key Add-On Relay (or just a 5-pin relay in general). VentureRelayInstalled.mp4

  6. I always add gas storage treatment to mine, run it a few minutes to make sure it gets in carbs, and then top off tank to prevent rusting.

  7. Hi guys. new to the community as i just purchased a 97 royal star tour classic. I have learned quite a bit so far from reading this forum. i too, was having the whole 4th and 5th fear misunderstanding. lol. was also trying to ride it like a v twin. i now know there is a huge difference. third IS the power gear. and the over drive gears are for those interstate rides, long distance rides. makes total sense considering they are TOURING bikes made for very long travels at comfortable rpm's for the engine. Now that i know what i know from this forum and you gents, i now expect my rides will be so much easier and less fight.lol.Thank the good lord i have only had her for two months now, dont suspect ive done any damage to her thus far. i have noticed some ticking coming from the exhaust though and right below the engine on the right side. taking her to the shop this week. needs new gaskets anyway. thanks a lot guys. saife rides and happy trails!

  8. No, nothing like that, a little bit of light rain while riding but that's it. I suspect the water was most likely drawn in through the breather as it was cooling down - and I was washing the bike. I would give the bike a good 15-20 minutes of cooling down before washing, but perhaps that is not enough. I was also in the midwest during some hot/humid days, so that is another possibility for drawing in moisture while cooling down after a ride. I will probably just change it with each oil change from now on. Its easy and inexpensive. I would like to change the breather too, as a precaution. Will report back if I can figure out how to remove it.

  9. This weekends project was the fuel tank. At first I wasn't going to do anything with it because is looked pretty good, only a few scratches. But once I had it installed it looked a little worse than when it was out on it's own. So I sanded down the tank and sprayed on some old satin black paint I had leftover from another project. Not the gloss black as before, but it turned out real nice. Here is a before and after pic.

  10. Time to revive an old thread. I spent the last summer working on plastics and they are about 80% ready for paint. I tried hard to find plastics that didn't have any cracks which is near impossible. I went as far as buying 3 different right side saddle bags where the sellers said they were crack free. I even pointed out to them where to look for cracks before I purchased them and they still had cracks. So I gave up on finding any that didn't have cracks and settled for pieces that had minimal cracking. So those will be getting some paint next spring/summer. Now on to what has been done recently. First up is a set of Barnet clutch plates and springs, along with a re-chromed clutch cover. I also installed the rear clutch master cylinder and a new braided stainless steel brake line. I just need to come up with a plug for the front brake line since I am delinking the brakes.

  11. These may be a bit too bulky, but I thought I'd point them out just in case they might work for you. https://smile.amazon.com/Electop-Negative-Waterproof-Protection-Automotive/dp/B0838SYDBS/ref=sr_1_17_sspa?keywords=micro+fuse+block&qid=1638016952&sr=8-17-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYRjJXNjZHQ1hEODkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5NDE2OTUyUTBTMjU0UUhGVFlUJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA2MzI3NzlKNDNaR1JCNTRRWlAmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl https://smile.amazon.com/Terminal-Negative-Indicator-Waterpoof-Automotive/dp/B07HDYQMB5/ref=sxin_15_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?cv_ct_cx=micro%2Bfuse%2Bblock&keywords=micro%2Bfuse%2Bblock&pd_rd_i=B07HDYQMB5&pd_rd_r=20d2e710-74c8-4f3f-966c-b5c29504086b&pd_rd_w=L6Ju3&pd_rd_wg=7hLII&pf_rd_p=fb401969-1dca-4736-bb17-fd1d356224ef&pf_rd_r=0XW0QFD2C6ES2HM6M649&qid=1638016952&sr=1-3-a73d1c8c-2fd2-4f19-aa41-2df022bcb241-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYRjJXNjZHQ1hEODkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5NTE5MjIxRTJKU1g2Mk83S0MmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDAxMDAzNFBHWFVVNDRSQ0c5QiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3NlYXJjaF90aGVtYXRpYyZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 https://smile.amazon.com/Deyooxi-Circuit-Indicator-Waterpoof-Automotive/dp/B08H4Q9SYR/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=micro%2Bfuse%2Bblock&qid=1638016952&sr=8-2-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFYRjJXNjZHQ1hEODkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5NDE2OTUyUTBTMjU0UUhGVFlUJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0NzAzNTQzUDlEM0NRNUY5VTRaJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1

  12. The sending unit is located in the tank under the seat. It has a wire running to a spade connection I believe. If you have the service manual, check page 8-29 in the APPX section. This diagram shows cable and wire routing and you can see the fuel level sending unit connection between the frame rail just above the cross member. Also check page 7-67 as they talk about testing the sending unit on that page and show its location. Good luck. Rick F.

  13. Here is a before picture of the clutch cover plate and the generator cover plate. I sent them out to be stripped and chromed. They turned out really nice, and look great on the black engine.
