Sleeperhawks Mechanic Posted August 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2008 Sleeperhawk and I will be westward bound to Arizona on September 27!!!:cool10: I just cannot wait for this trip since we missed out on Fort Collins last year. Two weeks have been allocated for this trip! We should reach Texas Saturday the 27th and leave out on the 30th to Carlsbad, New Mexico and then to the Tucson area. We will be heading out of Tucson on October 5. We plan to go to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon! I asked Sleeperhawk if we could possibly cross over into California and let me put my feet down on the state so I can color in that map too. He said YES! (So I will have quite a few states to color in by the time we get back to South Carolina!) From there, the plan is to travel upwards towards Colorado and the lower part of Wyoming (have never been to Wyoming) and then swing down through Nebraska, Kansas, and towards home. Since I am not familiar with a lot of the sights to be seen along those routes, I am asking our dear members to let me know what we should try to see. I know I will be taking a lot of pictures along the way and should break my record! Any advice would be sooooo greatly appreicated! It can and does get cool at the higher elevations. You may even run into snow in the high mountain roads. Yellowstone is a great park to ride through but you will need the whole day at least. George is taking his laptop, so I will be able to download my memory cards directly onto his computer and free up my memory cards. Otherwise, I would need a trailer for just those! George's brother lives in Oracle outside of Tucson and he is going to be celebrating his 50th birthday on October 4th, so we decided to incorporate a sightseeing trip as well. Steve S Posted August 18, 2008 Share #15 Posted August 18, 2008 Congrats Mechanic. You will love the trip out west. The Warden and I just got back from out there and loved every minute of it. If there is one thing I would suggest for you to do is to go to both the South Rim AND the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. They are both beautiful, but the view from the North Rim is much more Majestic. You can't do both in one day due to the distance, but it is well worth the time. And you can stop in Marble Canyon on the way to the North Rim. That in itself is worth the trip. On the way from the South to the North rim, we spent the night in Page Az. It is a beautiful little town on Lake Powell, right by Glen Canyon dam If I tried to tell you all the sights to see, you wouldn't have time to explore for yourself. More power and a heck of a lot faster of what they call them 1st gens today ! Watch out for them tourist traps with the fake turquoise jewelry . Call me and I'll tell you how you can tell real from fake . Just remember , Be Happy , Ride Happy ! Short amount of time and a lot to do and see . Just make sure George drinks a lot of water and keeps cool as possible . Keep the cell phone charged and keep someone posted on your schedule for safety sake .
