samklr650 Posted June 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 9, 2014 Can the Lower Leg protectors be removed for summer riding and if so does anyone have a picture of thier RSV with them removed?
XV1100SE Posted June 9, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2014 Lower leg protectors? You mean the lower cowlings? If you are referring to the cowlings, then keep in mind there are electronics inside them. Don't think you would take them off.
steamer Posted June 9, 2014 Share #3 Posted June 9, 2014 Electronics and cruise control unit is located behind the lower fairings. Mount highway pegs to your front crash bars, that will get your legs out in the wind.
CaptainJoe Posted June 9, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 9, 2014 Baker air wings if you want the wind... pricey but worth it...IMHO http://www.bakerbuilt.com/bbairwings/page48aa.html
MikeWa Posted June 9, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 9, 2014 Can the Lower Leg protectors be removed for summer riding and if so does anyone have a picture of thier RSV with them removed? NO ... cw1263 Posted June 9, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 9, 2014 without lower cowlings bike will not run right at highway speeds. I bought 2006 RSV that lowers were gone trust me it won't run right unless you put something in front of air cleaners.
djh3 Posted June 10, 2014 Share #7 Posted June 10, 2014 A fellow on the Delphi forums has had his off for a very long time. I think he took them off because of heat. He lives in Az. Myself I dont think I want to undertake the project of relocating all that stuff. Cruise control, horn, relays just to mention a few. It would be easier to buy another set, take a hole saw and drill like 2" holes in the bottom half to get air thru than to remove them.

Hasn't really had any problems. I believe he has a write up on the whole procedure. Definitely cleans up the bike, but like someone else said, not sure I'd go through all the work.
