octoberboy Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Need a little guidance with how to remove my chrome covers (engine, crankcase, etc). They are are all attached with unslotted screws (see picture). I assume there is a special tool I need to get? Some of the screws, like for the engine covers, have almost no clearance around them. Afraid if I don't do things the proper way I could make a much bigger problem for myself.
Carbon_One Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 You need what is called hex bit sockets - http://www.craftsman.com/shc/s/search_10155_12602?keyword=metric+hex+bits and/or Allen wrenches - http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-26-pc-standard-and-metric-ball-end/p-00946274000P?prdNo=28&blockNo=28&blockType=G28 Larry
Wade 2000 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 There are caps on the hex heads, pop them off to expose the hex slot
playboy Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 There are caps on the hex heads, pop them off to expose the hex slot :sign yeah that:
octoberboy Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 I was a bit confused because there was no place to put the hex head. I took a different close up picture to show you as an example. When I looked at that I realized there is a cap over the hex slot. All is good in the world again. At least for now. Thanks Larry.
djh3 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I just looked up today for another thread. Autozone has the allen socket set in 3/8 drive for $15. 3mm (fits fairing screws) 4mm, 5mm 6mm 8mm 10mm. That should just about cover anything on the bike. Ocasionaly you find the standard L type works better.
steamer Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Didn't I tell you about all those bolt caps:confused24: Just about every bolt on your bike have caps on them.
playboy Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Aren't they called security caps? NO NO NO they are safety caps there chrome aren't they:stirthepot:
dacheedah Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I would use allens in a 1/2 or 3/8 drive and to replace them use a torque wrench to drive them.
