sleadhed Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Hey guys! check this out. http://www.centechwire.com/catalog/panels/ap1.shtml have any of you installed this one? I think I am going to get it It is about the right size to fit right behind the battery under the seat on the 2nd gen. Not a bad price either.
Gambler Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Thats the one I am considering down the road, if U use it let me know how U like it Gambler
Squidley Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 It's nice and high tech, but $50 I've used an 8 position holder that I mount on top of the battery where the stock one is on the 1st gens. It runs me about $11 but the one your looking at seems to appear very solid
Albino Rhino Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Hey guys! check this out. http://www.centechwire.com/catalog/panels/ap1.shtml have any of you installed this one? I think I am going to get it It is about the right size to fit right behind the battery under the seat on the 2nd gen. Not a bad price either. I bought a basic 6-circuit aux panel at a local marine store when I lived in FL. About 10 bucks. I wired it to the battery via a 30-amp fuse and each leg has its own fuse appropriate for the load.
sleadhed Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 well when I first saw this I thought that I was a little pricey too. I suppose even for the surge protection that they claim to offer It is at the higher end of the $$$ scale. What interested me most in this unit is that it offers 8 feeds (Generic picture? I only see 5 fuse cavities) and the compact size. the same company offers a unprotected 6 panel for $13 and a 4 panel for $10. After browsing the web and the rest of their site I think I'll opt for the $13 panel and apply the remainder the the exhaust fund.
KiteSquid Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I would look for something that is waterproof.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 is that it offers 8 feeds (Generic picture? I only see 5 fuse cavities) . I believe some of the terminals share some fuses.
RPG Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Nice looking unit. I see the wires are held in place with screws, I wonder if the screws will stay tight and hold the wires securily on a machine that vibrates as much as a motorcycle? I guess you could use a little blue loctite just in case.
sleadhed Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 the description of said unit states this "the water resistant AP-1 fuse panel will provide reliable service no matter your application." Now what is their definition of water resistant? My experience tells me that a pc board is useless in moist conditions unless sealed in gel.
Bvinson Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I have the $20 NAPA on mine. It's not waterproof but I put an inline fuse to the power side of the block. I will take some pics and post. I run all of my added electronics from it. IE... horns, trailer modulator, passing lights, vests.
wild hair 39 Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 water proof watches,to 50 mtr,most washing machine,are 51 mtr deep,maybe fuse blocks,are water res :icon_smile_question
KiteSquid Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I don't know where to put them as they look large, but the Cirkit Boss Fuse Blocks from Painless Wiring have a built in relay to shut all the outputs down when the ignition is turned off. They include wire and lots of other parts... Model number 70217: the 7 circuit model is $73.88 at Summit Racing Equipment Model number 70213: The 3 circuit model. It is available for $57.88 Summit Racing Equipment For more products from Painless Performance, thier web site is HERE
Bvinson Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Here is a pic of my extra fuse block. NAPA part. As far as needing to be waterproof I can't say but, I did ride 3 days in solid rain from Laconia to Dallas and it never gave me a problem. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/fuse.jpg
