Round trip Fuel mileage questions
BratmanXj replied to GaStar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've had my '99 since '13. I would run about 40 mpg when highway commuting to work at 65-75mph. When traveling with the buddies who have 6spd Indian or Kawi Nomad they'd fly out of town at 75-80 mph and I'd drop down into the mid 30's. This past winter I finally did an Ivan's jet kit (already had Uni foam filters and HD High flow pipes) and now I'm a consistent mid-30's. I like the extra power, but not really needed and I want to play around with the tuning to get the fuel milage back up just a tick. -
Ready to burn it to the ground!

I love my 98 RSTD...I hate this bike! Can someone please, please tell me how the f#$k I get the big ugly air box cover back on after changing the air filter? I'm seriously considering scrapping this thing for a freaking mule! Maybe just chopping up into a million chunks of scrap iron!

Good morning to all. Yesterday, I was able to complete my planned project on the RSV. Installed another Denali Sound Bomb horn on the RSV this time. It didn't take long for me to decide where to install the horn so I got to work right away. Just applied blue loctites on all bolts and made sure that I used nylon lock nuts to the horn mounts. It turned out great IMO and very satisfied. Today, we are having some very fine mist and cloudy. I guess thanks to Hurricane Erin that is just offshore off the east coast. On a day that I really want to go out may turn out to be a day of indoor activities and more computer and ham radio. The agenda is to hit the gym and do a little bit of riding, but that will have to wait for another day. Attached are some pics and a very short video for attention. IMG_1283.MP4

Round trip Fuel mileage questions
maddog2498 replied to GaStar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I get from 33 to 52 mpg. According to how hard I ride. -
Good morning to all! Pretty cloudy here in SE Pa. I guess due to that offshore east coast weather disturbance. Spotty showers but will not account for anything. Spent a few hours wiring the Denali SoundBomb horn on the RSV and will finalize the install early this afternoon. Tested the horn last night and it works! Have to stop by the local Home Depot to get a longer 5/16 bolt to properly secure the horn mount. Blue Loctite only. Hope you guys have a great day and ride safe. God Bless to all.

It has been a long time since I had my Venture, so I have forgotten a lot about it, but if the Venture has any rubber lines in the rear brake system, it may be that those sections have weakened over time and stretch or expand when pressure is applied. If there are rubber sections, maybe it is time to replace them, preferably with braided steel covering. Just a thought. This would not necessarily have anything to do with air bubbles, but could affect the ability to lock up the rear wheel and slide it, which the Venture should do very easily, as the rear brakes are known to do that even of good dry pavement.
-
Don't know if it applies the same in this situation, but I know a collapsed brake line can cause some problems. When you bleed at the caliper, does it seem to have good pressure?
-
Yes, open and close like always when doing a car. I did not know if there was a problem with an air bubble like I had on my gold wing clutch. It seems like it should be easy, but my brake got worse every time I changed my rear tire.
-
I know...Dumb question, but I gotta ask.... When bleeding by pumping the pedal, are you tightening down the bleeder screw before releasing the pedal? If bleeding with a vac pumper, are you tightening down the bleeder screw before removing? I'm just wondering if you're letting air back in after bleeding....

Lisa and I got home around 730 last night. Thanks to y'all for another great get together. It was wonderful to see so many of my Venturerider friends again. Already looking forward to the next one. Will post a pic or two when I get a minute.

I put a Bluetooth receiver in the bike. Just stream any playlist I want off the phone. Way easier for me.

Just walked in the door. Stopped to eat with the youngest in Huntsville.

It is possible that you need to rebuild the master cylinder. It's not a difficult or expensive job, but sometimes necessary.
