  1. Going to Fort Wayne, Indiana for three weeks of job training. Staying at the Marriott Courtyard off exit 111b, Lima Road & I-69. Just wondering what the area is like and who is around there for a M & E? I was thinking of riding the RSV down and do some riding after class. Later-
  2. Week to go so thought I'd start planning for next Sunday. We will be leaving Kitchener in the morning and going to 403/Garden Ave. Next stop Casablanca rest area in Grimsby. From there ... Chaffee (or Fort Erie - 1hr from Grimsby..and then to Chaffee 1hr). Like to hear from others that want to ride together and what time you were planning on leaving. For us... (timing flexible).... Kitchener (leaving around 8am) to Brantford - 50 minutes (meet in Brantford at 9am, leave at 9:15-9:30) Brantford to Grimsby - 45 minutes (meet 10:15, leave at 10:45-11am) (Fort Erie - possible meet at noon, leave at 12:30) Grimsby to Chaffee - 2 hrs (plus time at the border) If we stop in Fort Erie puts us at Chaffee around 1:30. Straight thru from Grimsby around 1pm (plus border time). That gives us 4 possible meeting areas (including Kitchener and Fort Erie). Who wants to ride together and how is the timing I suggested ?
  3. Just may be in Columbia for the weekend to visit my son at Fort Jackson. Not sure how long we will get to stay. May try and get some geocache's while there.
  4. Hello Everyone: When I first joined this site almost two years ago there were no other local members. The closest member was Zfrebird4 in Fort Collins CO. about 150 miles away. We have have spoken and emailed several times since that time, but did not meet until this weekend. Our schedules finally meshed. We rode over to Fort Collins on Saturday, had a nice lunch with Jack and he then led us the back way around Horse Tooth lake to Loveland where Lee and I stayed the night. We met up again on Sunday around noon. Jack led us to Estes Park, Lyons, Longmont and back to Fort Collins. Jack is riding Squidley's former 86 Venture Royale, what a nice bike!! We headed back home to Western Nebraska with more VR memories. Thanks Jack

    Rough night on Ft Bragg

Last night was a rough night of training for the Marines here on Fort Bragg. Keep them in your prayers. http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/9271350/
  6. The following is a news article from the Hinesville Ga coastal courier. The incident happened Wednesday night about 9;30. The Army hasn't released any more info at this time, and are being very tight lipped about the whole investigation. Here's the link to the paper, but it doesn't have any other info at this time. http://www.coastalcourier.com/ div#widgetid_8491 { display: none; } A 3rd Infantry Division soldier died Wednesday night from an apparent stabbing just hours after redeploying from Iraq. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Army criminal investigators believe the stabbing may have resulted from a “domestic incident,” according to an e-mail from Fort Stewart Public Affairs. “The soldier was seen bleeding and in distress near his barracks building around 9:30 p.m. (Wednesday) by a commercial delivery person who immediately called Fort Stewart police,” Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson said. “Fort Stewart Emergency Medical Services responded quickly and took the soldier to Winn Army Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.” The soldier had returned to Fort Stewart from a year-long deployment about 18 hours before the stabbing, Larson said. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating the death, he said. “The soldier’s name will be released as soon as next of kin notification is complete,” Larson said. Groups ranging from 145-350 soldiers from the 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team were welcomed home on Fort Stewart’s Cottrell Field earlier this week and more are expected to redeploy here this weekend. We never had a chance to say thank you to this gentleman. Please think about him for a moment during the holidays. I'll keep y'all posted as they release info.
  7. My wrench has no idea how to find bug and rock protectors for the forks on my 86 VR. I've noticed some that appear to be ad ons on the second gens, but none on us first guys' bike. 8. There is a civil war re-enactment at fort wayne in detroit ( yes, i mean it, there is a fort there! ) july 11th and 12th. i dunno if any of you might be history buffs, but it's an interesting place that has been abandoned by the US goverment and we are part of a historical coalition to try and raise funds to preserve it. if you mustered out of the great lakes area to vietnam, there is a good chance you passed through ft wayne. It has been that way since the american civil war. untold millions of young men passed through those gates on the way to serve our country. the italian pilots captured during ww2 were housed there, and it played an important roll in cracking the enigma code during ww2 as well. there are soldier's initials from the civil war carved into the doors and bunks still in the bunkhouse there. it's a pretty neat place. i'm not sure what admission costs, but it is secure parking, and if you got some free time, why not swing by? much of the proceeds go the coliation for preservation of the fort. thanks for your time in reading this guys. - Jared

  10. Hooked up with 23 bikes in Sylacauga, Al Sat. morning at 7am, and headed up Hwy 9, through Lineville, up to Cedar Bluff, then over to Georgia, from there up through Summerville and Fort Oglethorpe, detour off through a Civil War battlefield park, then ended up in Chattanooga, TN around 4pm. Got home yesterday about 1:30. Awesome ride..
  11. So - Tom was teasing everyone a while back about a secret. Maggie (MochaLady) and I are going to pick up our wedding rings this morning! We are getting married next Saturday. My daughter Julia is going to be the best woman. Maggie's friend is going to be the man of honor. Figured to start of non-conventional A small ceremony and no reception as of yet. We are going to save that for later in the summer. Right now we are very busy with work, her new job, and daughter turned 18 and graduated. We are having the ceremony at Fort Sam in the Dodd Field Chapel. Kinda funny as she is working 3rd shift on Friday and then has to come home and get ready for a 10 Am. wedding. I guess next comes the dog, cat, and the rocking chairs! We are even looking to buy a place with a bit of land down near Big Shell in Floresville. How dog-gone domestic is that. Just no more kids and no minivan. JB
