  1. Due to medical conditions most of this years touring was none. I finally got cut loose from the physicians and finally got my hands around the handle bars while my wife was gone so she couldn't see what was happening! I hit the starter and the bike started and was trying to run but just couldn't. It would only run with the choke engaged. When parked I put stabil in the gas and did everything I usually do when I know that the bike will be parked for any period. As it happened I was not able to ride all summer. Now I can do limited rides. I am thinking the carbs should be cleaned. It is a 2000 MM with 65,000 miles and never had anything done to it but change the oil and fill the tank. It absolutely ran perfect when parked. I feel like I have abused it by letting it sit for 4 months. I guess my question is how difficult is it to pull the carb assembly and overhaul carbs? Do the carb parts come as a kit or do the parts have to be ordered piece meal? Is their anything I should be aware of before starting this? I am not going to be doing the removal myself, the work will be done by my 12 yoa grandson under my direction. Any thoughts or input is appreciated.
  2. Went to Marcus Dairy in CT near the CT/NY boarder today. Big meet every Sunday morning there. Pulled in and parked next to an 08 then went walking the bikes (maybe 400 to 500). Went to front on building and seen two more 08's parked side by side. I've had mine for a year now and haven't seen but one on the road so see three at the same time actually parked was cool. Talked to all three of the owners and told them about this site. Sure hope they make it here. The pair at the front was two buddies who had bought their bikes together. I asked if either of them had done the leveling link yet and they not only told me no but that for the shorter of them the dealer had actually lowered the rear end. I asked him about the low speed handling and he was very descriptive (would quote him but this is a family site) about his feelings on that subject as said he was was getting sick and tired of dropping it in the parking lot. We talked a bit and I told him that instead of lower the rear end he should go back to the dealer and have them return it to stock height and then come here and learn how to drop the front end. After I got done explaining how the geometry was made worse by dropping the rear end I thought his buddy was going to bust a gut. All he could do was bust his chops about letting the dealer do the exact opposite of what needed to be done to get the results he really wanted. Got a feeling these guys will fit right in here. Sure hope they show up here and get it right. This is to great a ride to let something like that discourage someone from owning one.
  3. There was a 07 Venture parked behind my 07 at the Wings n Wheels show yesterday. Was it someone here?
  4. So who else either lives or works in this area with a RSV??? I have seen some being ridden or parked at businesses. I live in King George and work for General Dynamics in Dahlgren.
  5. I stopped by the police station today at lunch and picked up a copy of the report. It does have her as hitting the bike and she was noted as improper backing. She was also charged with driving on a suspended license, go figure. This is all well and good but on my vehicle it was noted that I was parked illegally. This is a city street in front of where I work with no restrictions in that area. The only thing I can think that might be an issue at this point was I was parked at an angle to the curb, not perpendicular, but at about a 30 degree angle. I mainly do this because this street, as most, is sloped downward and I am more confortable with the stance of the bike on the side stand. Just got a call back from the Police Officer and I told him I was confused and what was I doing to be parked illegally? He said you were not parked illegally. I said the report says that. He then goes into this tirade about using these little PDA's to do reports on. He then stated that he would get it corrected and then I could pick up another copy. WHEW!!! So, I am about back to square one on dealing with an insurance company and should be without having to deal with the company and the video. What a roller coaster ride so far. BTW, as I noted earlier, this guy rides a Goldwing. He also noted on the report that the damage was under $400. Yeah. RandyA
  6. I work in the downtown core of a large city. At any given time of the day, there is a lot of pedestrians. The loading docks of my building are accessed from a dead-end lane. Between the sidewalk and the loading area, there's a 4 ft concrete wall that runs about 20 feet. The sidewalk is fairly wide...maybe 10 feet. It's not uncommon to see numerous mo-peds & scooters parked there. They back them up to the wall, usually at a 90 degree angle to the wall. Now these things aren't all that long so for the most part, aren't in anyone's way but sometimes there are bigger bikes there, parked the same way, and quite obviously, impeding the normal flow of pedestrians. This has bothered me for a long time so the other day I put a note on one of the bikes (it was the only one there at the time). In a friendly "tone" I suggested that, as a biker I would NOT a) park my bike on a sidewalk and b) park it on a sidewalk in such a way that it interfered with the pedestrians. Since then I haven't seen his bike there. I often see people parking their scoots in places where, in my opinion, they shouldn't. These are motor vehicles, not bicycles. As owners and operators we're obligated to abide by the same laws as cage drivers. To me, that means we need to park our scoots in the same places allocated for the cages. Now, I will admit, there have been times when I haven't adhered to this and have parked in places not designed for parking; however, I always felt a bit "guilty" about that. So, what do others here do and what's your feelings about this? Was I right in putting that note on that guys scoot or should I have just brushed it off?
  7. I have this neighbor, he's an older guy. He has a mint 1st gen 1300 parked in his garage around 8,000 miles on it. I've lived in my house going on four years and only saw him ride it once or twice. He will go out to his garage and just start it up, let it run for a bit and then shut it off. I feel sorry for the bike, it sound great and I'm sure it just want to get out there and run.........
  8. Bike has been parked all winter. Discovered that the rear tire was almost flat (yet it was around 45lbs when I parked it). Checked the tire and noticed a piece of metal like a nail embedded into the tread. Haven't tested for a leak yet but will later tonight. No idea how long it might have been there but recall air pressure dropping about 10lbs over a 2 month time span last summer. The tire is good and is a Avon Venom-X so I really don't want to replace it yet. Can such a thing be fixed? We used to (and probably still do) put plugs in car tires. Can this be done on a m/c tire or what?
