she was not going to stop. After spending several hours moving millions of leaves to the side of the road for leaf pickup, I decided to take a little ride and enjoy the mid 60's degree day. About three miles from the house I was on a nice back road going about 40mph and as I came to a slight rise in the road that has a road coming out from my right just over the top of the hill, I noticed the top half of a car coming toward the intersection. I immediately slowed down and just as I crested the hill, the car blew thru the stop sign and turned toward me. I layed down on the air horns and let them blast. If I had not anticipated the car doing that, I would have hit it right in the driver's door. I think I startled the woman as she almost ran into the ditch on the other side of the road trying to get out of my way. I am real glad I was paying that close attention, because she sure was not. 41K, 99, Rotella T 15W/40 w/1K on it. My clutch will only slip in 3rd, at WOT, going up hill. Now I know I can prevent this by NOT going WOT in 3rd up a hill but... I swear when I first starting reading this and the other Venture board that I read something about "tightening" up the clutch plate by using the washers from sparkplugs (which ones I cannot remember) behind the bolts. This prevented the unwarranted slipped. Unwarranted because the friction plates still had plenty of material but due to design it would slip or something to that affect. Does this sound familiar to anyone!? I like cheap fixes but will dial up Barnett's if I gotta.

:soapbox:Well, I knew it would happen sooner or later, especially the way this driveway is (thats my story and I'm stickin to it). You can see from the pics why I left the thing lay until I got home from work. I dropped it on the way to work last night. Said the ---- with it and got in the car. With where it was laying there was no way that the "walk it up" pick up theory was gonna work. It took my brother and I on the bike, and Nancy shoving a chock block behind the back tire, as the hill is steep enough that the thing will roll even in gear. Minor cosmetic damage. The thing layed there all night, cranked right up, and didn't even complain. The only thing I can think of is that 1-I didn't warm it up enough and 2-the hill was pretty slick from the rain and 3- Hey, I know know that the emergency kill works when the thing goes down.

I did a 8 day trip to New England this year with my wife so the bike was pretty well loaded down. I have noticed even without the extra weight when I am going up hill in 5th gear when I give it throttle it really starts to vibrate and then stops once I crest the hill. Have just bought a trailer but will probably not get a chance to try it this year. I just hope with the extra trailer weight and the more I can pack if this will hurt the bike. Does anyone else notice the vibration when accelerating up hill?

I had my 1st service done a few hundred miles ago. we went up to PA. over the weekend. About half way up there i started hearing what sounded like a whining gear grinding sound. It only seems to happen in 5th gear, when throttle on but not under a load (like pulling a hill). when coming down a hill if its coasting theres no noiose unless you ease on the throtle slightly. Is this the norm for the engine whine i have been reading about? I hadd all the oils changed at 600 miles and everything is synth. It only happens after the engine is warmed up.

Just starting to rain this morning as I pull out of the garage. Previous owner put a darned slippery slurry coat on the driveway (hate it). I get to the end of the driveway & slow down because an SUV is coming down the hill & around the bend to my left. Tires slip & as the SUV goes by I feel it starting to fall to the right, so I figure I might as well exit the driveway to the right, down the hill. Couldn't save it. Laid it down gently, tried a couple times to lift it, but the darned driveway is too slick to keep my boots from slipping. Went & enlisted my wife to help me lift it back up. Not so embarassing, just more fodder to have the driveway redone.
