  1. barend

    brakepads

Anyone have experience with "buckeye's" Carbone brake pads for a '83 especially compared to the EBC HH pads. Price difference is about $10/set in very round numbers. Buckeye says theirs are sintered pads as well. My current pads (back) are 3/4 gone and the left front is just starting to squeek after 8K miles I am almost sure those were OEM. Thanks!
  2. When using either front or rear brake, my lights dim significantly and I loose about 2-3V on my volt meter, at any engine RPM. Turning my pair of 35W driving lights on or off or plugging in my electric riding gear has no similar effect on the electrical system. No problems charging, starting, battery seems strong, run my electric gloves and vest with no issues. Is this normal for a 1st Gen (maybe antidive actuator)? Or should I look for an excess current draw somewhere? Dual brake lights appear to work, look normal. Thanks Wally
  3. I think I'm in dire need of a new stator. Can someone point me in the right direction. I know some time ago, there was talk of a beefed up stator on the market, but cannot find the thread. My current output is 12.57 volts, but I cannot live on the battery alone for long. Joe (Saddle_Bag)
  4. I found an excellent GPS for a buddy of mine for his bike. He's quite poor and cant afford a $690.00 Gps so I found him one for $60.00 that is beautiful to read in direct sunlight and at night. It's a Garmin iQue 3600. the car kit we modified to screw it to the bike's dash and it works great. He can even play mp3's on it. No the maps are not current but that does not matter to him. (Or me, I am happy with 2 year old maps) It's the cheapest GPS I could find that you can shine a 60,000,000CP flashlight at it and you can still read it. Just a tip for the poor guys out there. No it's not waterproof. it does not have XM,Sirius,Onstar, or anything else in it like that. I'm getting a second one for me and selling the current GPS I have because of it's huge screen.
  5. Renton, Wa. Honda, Yamaha dealer. Has listed on web site, one new, ( non current ) Blue/Black 2008, RSTD for posted price of $9999.00. If anybody is interested. http://www.rentonmotorcycles.com/
  6. I would like to hear from some of you that have ran Commanders on the RSV. I would like to know how many miles I can expect out of a set, how they handle, etc. I have only run D404's and I am not happy with them. Only 6000 miles on my current rear and it needs replacing. I am interested only in the Michelin. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Hey Folks, Got the RSV tore apart doing some maintenance and adding a few things. I have installed a fuse block, front and rear modulators, front fork air pressure balance kit, speed bleeders, fresh fluids, a Stebel horn, lubed the rear suspension (except for the swingarm bearings - will get that at next tire change), put new avons venoms on, tightened the stearing head, and rewired the light bar so that it is on when the dims are. Have yet to install a rear led light strip and the Kisan ChargeGuard. My question about the kisan is they state in their installation instructions that all the ground wires should be connected to the copper shunt on the neg post of the battery. Does this literally mean all the wired grounds on the bike? I have grounds located on several places on the frame. Do I have to rewire so that they are all connected to the shunt? This is the installation information from the Kisan site: CURRENT SENSOR The Current Sensor is an Integrated Copper Shunt, which mounts on the NEGATIVE (Ground) battery post. Shunt is rated for 100 Amps MAX current The power wire attached to the shunt must be connected to the positive battery post or a 12v source. INSTALLING CURRENT SENSOR: Remove ALL cables from the NEGATIVE (Ground) post of the battery. Attach ALL ground cables to the shunt as shown here, with the nut & bolt supplied. Now you can re-attach the other eyelet of the shunt on the Ground post of the battery, using the original bolt. Note! The orientation of the Left/Right eyelets is important to keep correct Input/Output of the current flow. Thanks in advance for all the help, Jinksy
  8. Does anyone know where I can get the valve bucket tool to hold the buckets down so I can replace the shims. My dealer can't find a current part number for the tool. Thanks
  9. I am not one to skimp on oil or filters with my cars, so I only buy Mobil 1 oil filters even though they are $10.00 or more per. I was looking at my maintenance records for my 87 VR and noticed the last filter I used was a Fram CH6002, which presumably I thought was the best available at the time. So my question is, what is the current thinking as to the best filter for our bikes, regardless of cost? BTW- You can throw in your opinion on dyno/syn oil as well. I use synthetic for the cars, but have not considered it for the bike as of yet.
  10. Wasnt spent riding either of my bikes, It all started with watching my second grandson come into this world on Friday, then on Saturday my college team, LSU, wins the SEC Championship, keeps its current coach, and then on Sunday, my team LSU, makes it to the National Championship game...............
