  1. Newer engines have the oil hole???
  2. www.batterytender.com It's not the cold that kills the batteries but the off season NEGLECT. My snowmobile battery lives just fine. Same YTX20 as our RS's... Now trying to educate the masses, good luck to ya. EXCELLENT advice about running the starter once the voltage gets low. I've always gotten 6-7 years from my MC, ATV, Snowmobile batts. with proper care. Hope the AGM's I'm using now can top that.... we'll see.
  3. Don't give up... a handful of 1/4" pea stone in the tank with vigorous shaking for a half hour will finish getting all the rust flakes that will mess with you later. Rinse thoroughly with water, then just dry and WD-40 after to stop the rust. I know just what you mean about the 90 tubes for the crossover. Consider cutting them shorter with a die grinder (I assume this is NOT a Concours grade restoration) which will allow you to access them straight through with a drill.
  4. I'm on it... in the spring. I have the Carb Stix mercury sync set I bought in 1980. Thanks for the advice.
  5. Don't want to get into an uphill urination contest here but.... the Odyssey IS an AGM battery. They call it a "dry" battery and get away with it because as a sealed battery it is classified as "dry" when shipped UPS, FedEx etc. Rest assured, it DOES contain electrolyte. Absorbed Glass Mat, not to be confused with early "gel" batteries which had conventional plates and were the first "maintenance free" car batteries. Don't get me wrong, I think the Odyssey is a great battery with a tough case and a premium price. My street bikes batteries usually don't get beat like sled or ATV (physically).
  6. All joking aside kids.... OD is HUGE!!!! I've had bikes with tractor gears and it's no fun if you like covering big miles at high speed. The tall cogs was ahuge factor in selecting the RS. JFWIW
  7. Vibration sensativity is a very personal thing. I sold my Concours and then my Victory because the vibes irked me. I've got carpal tunnel and need to get cut. I've always been intolerant of engine, driveline and wheel/tire vibes on everything I own. I pine for the old days and my rubber mounted XS1100 engine. The V-Max and 1st gen. RS had rubber mounts.... has anyone replaced our aluminum spacers with the rubbers and ditched the upper engine mounts?????
  8. BOTH batteries mentioned are AGM (absorbed glass mat). Get the cheaper of the two. I currently have a Deka in RSTD, only because I got it in a bike trade (was installed NEW in my Victory, spring '06). I've gotten 7 years out of several conventional lead/acid batteries in the past. Hope the AGM's can top that.
  9. Either your MIG (Metalic Inert Gas) welder or stick (SMAW)welder will be just fine for the low carbon steel tubing frame on the bike. The TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) method has no advantage in strength in this application. Pay NO attention to the crack monkeys on American Chopper. Myself and many other fabricators cringe when the start in the antics. I offer 30 years fabricating and welding experience, ASME section 8 (pressure vessel) and section III (nuclear) and FAA certified.
  10. ECHO PB-650!!!! 60cc, Tim Taylor certified as one bad blower!!!
