  1. Plugs are for car tires, so......GET A CAR TIRE!! jk...I’m with the majority on this topic...a plug may get you home but YOU DESERVE a new tire!
  2. Thanks for the response Freebird. i knew the tire was a bit shorter than the factory tire but that's fine by me. I wasn't sure what guys were doing, if it was available in RWLs on both sides or not. Letters on one side doesn't bother me. Thanks again.
  3. And even the right tire? Look at this on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/311835739652 BF Goodrich 06462 Radial T/A TireP155/80R15
  4. Hello dark siders of the Venturerider forum. I have heard nothing but good about the BF Goodrich T/A and have decided that is the tire that I will go with. However, I see that they're only available with raised white letters on one side and blackwall on the other. So, what are you all doing? Are you just putting the white letters on one side, black on the other? Or, are you finding a white wall or raised white letters on both sides? My bike is in dire need of a new skid and has looked like this for a week. Please let me know where you guys are getting your tires. Thanks in advance and safe riding.
  5. I feel your pain brother! I hit one about three years ago on the interstate doing 75 mph. Was lose-lose. One of the 3 of us didn't make it (and I still ride the same old bike...she's bulletproof albeit with a facelift). Put 'er back together and ride on!
  6. Man, now i really feel like a jack@$$ Good luck with the auction
  7. I don't really mean to hi-jack and apologize if i am, but I'm not exactly sure the significance of this post but thought i'd share my garage door opener. And i could open it from my cabin up north if someone were needing into my garage while i'm away. It also notifies me every time the door is opened or closed. i think this is the coolest thing since sliced bread.
  8. With the cover bolts off and all the other stuff that you say youve tsken off just slide the forks out of the triple clamps and voila...covers off
  9. I did have them up on a shelf.....pretty simple, just bent a "U" bracket, welded to a plate, welded a stop and bolted to my boards under the rubber (two large holes seen from the underside of the board). I' still trying to find a set of bags like the ones i purchased.
  10. mine is easy...i rode dirtbikes as kid. I'd gone through several streetbikes as a young adult but pretty much got rid of everything 20 years ago. When we had our first kid he begged for a dirtbike (a boy after my own heart). I told him when he could ride a pedal bike without training wheels id get him one. 3 days later ( and 3 days befor his 4th bday) i had to get him a dirtbike (xr50). Before age 5 he was racing on an rm65. Then i got another dirtbike and thats pretty well my passion until he left for college. His sister followed with her first xt50 at age 5. We were the family of dbikersat the track and hare scramble courses. Well, the kids have outgrown it but actually is still a passion of mine (with 3 freshly broken ribs to prove it). If i added up all of my dirt and street injuries over ther years i'd likely give it all up for shuffleboard, but im not that smart
  11. Im not sure what they are...got em off ebay for like $170 or $180 in primer and crap generic mounts and in primer. I looked tonight and couldnt find a set similar. But I really like how they follow the lines of the rear fender but didnt look too small atop the dual pipes. The bags themselves are ok but the hinges and hardware are junk. Hey Puc. Thanks for the kind words (the old girl really appreciated it too!) and yes, id like to make it to a meet and greet (and eat)....i need to dig thru posts to find when the next one is. I still hop on and go anywhere, am just a bit slower these days and a bit more conscious of the opening of deer season. Do you ever get over this way (flint, dont drink the water) Hey Ga....the war dept (aka mrs dbikers) refuses to ride with, thus the single saddle (although i have the pillion in the attic) so i just took the passenger pegs off and mounted on some brackets i fabbed up and bolted to the floor boards (under the rubber pads). They cost me $0. i would have straightened them out and used them but found the crashbar with pegs on ebay for $75 shipped so i jumped on it. I may still have the stuff i pulled off in the garage. If i do i will snap a few pics (or put them in the mail for you to see if you can use them as i dont have much use for em)...if i dont i wont.
  12. Do it....just do a little at a time
  13. Hey All, A few years ago i was a paid member *'12 - '13), right after i got my Royal Star. I've posted pics in back they've been deleted (perhaps by me). Anyhow, i loved that bike from the first time i pressed the starter (i love the chevy small-block rumble it makes). Here she is in all her glory (these pics from 2013 right after i got home from the dragon's tail)... In the fall of that year i hit a deer on my way to work (pre-dawn on opening day of bow season) at about 75mph. That buck rolled right through my windshield into my lap and threw me off the back and flipping a$$ over tea kettle down the road. Pretty much all running gear and tins were trashed. I decided i'd had enough accident on bikes (broken pelvis on dirt bike which i still ride and this deer strike), i was going to part it out and get out of the sport completely. I pulled everything apart and started to sell (or swap) small items, and was just about to off my carbs and then the rest of it (ask DarrinGT). The bike sat in my garaged in several pieces for about a year, and i love it some much that i decided that i wanted to keep my "Road Kill" and put it back on the road again. I picked up a headlight, cheap front fender, had the tank pulled/filled and then bought some cheap (crap) hard-bags, new bars, grips, mirrors, a decent windshield, 2 new tires, and some hiway bars/pegs. I decided to keep my Mustang seat, rips and all as well as my Jardine pipes (asphault-ground and all) to show she has character. I guess i was into it for about another $1k https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5565/14953202172_cbdf6bca6a_c.jpg So for the last year and a half i've been without front blinkers and driving lights. I just picked some up last weekend (great deal on ebay) and finally.... I SEE THE LIGHT(s)!!!! The pics ain' the greatest but you'll get the idea Thanks for looking. Glad to be back and glad to still be riding. Since putting back on the road last spring i've put on approx 3k miles and it still purrs like a kitten. Sure, i have a few things that i still need to do....like getting some tank batdges and perhaps a re-paint once if figure out what scheme i want. I guess we're never really done are we...
  14. 1976 TT500 1978 IT175 1981 YZ125 1985 XJ700 (liquid cooled, missing 2nd gear, fast as hell) 1996 ROYAL STAR (current ride) 2001 YZ250F (current off-road bike, very light and my favorite dirt bike ever) 2004 YZ450F (stupid power mated to a 4-speed gearbox)
  15. thanks again all for your support. got back yesterday around 1p...official mileage was 2110 miles. hit some rain and some stormy weather but all in all uneventful and the bike runs like a dream.
  16. one of the biggest things that i can think of is the 20+ HP more that the '07 has. probably has better suspension...those would be what i would consider... but, if driven by price can pick up a '97 for approx half of what the '07 cost
  17. yes, we ran 28......all of the roads down there are fantastic. between wv and nc i could ride the roads forever...just beautiful
  18. i just got back an hour ago from a trip i've always wanted to take...a friend and i took a week off work and headed to the tail of the dragon friday night. got to dayton (needmore rd, ugh!) around 11p friday night and rear wheel/axle bearing exploded. we have a (really, really) good friend in cincinnati with a 1 ton so he came and picked us up around 1a and went to his place. we waited at a wafflehouse with an armed security guard...and i'm 100% positive his .40 wasn't the only one in 'da house. spent all day saturday getting parts (back up to dayton and then over to springfield before getting back to cincinnati). had everything back together around 5 but the weather was real bad and ws even worse down south. so we took off at 530 or so and headed east to my college roommate's farm in lost creek, wv. we rode thru some heavy rain and got there around 1130p saturday night.....got up sunday morning to even more rain so we decided to stay and hoped that monday would be better. we left monday morning around 8a and headed east toward seneca rocks ....more rain, soaked thru to the bone. then south and west to white sulfur springs (checked out the greenbriar)...then to asheville nc monday night (got to hotel around 10p). woke to fog tuesday am and picked up another friend in cherokee and then down to the tail. what a ride!!!! nc is by far the best mc riding i have found yet. it was absolutely beautiful. we ran the tail 2 times tuesday and drove all around the lakes there...totally awesome! around 6 or so we drove back to cherokee to drop off the friend and caught alot more rain...decided to leave tuesday night luckily the rain let up some. we went back and ran the dragon at about 10p (a little foggy, we never got out of 2nd gear) to get over the mountain and up to knoxville where we stayed at a sleep-inn...we didn't see a single vehicle of any kind on the dragon that night....it was a little creepy but still very cool. got up yesterday and headed home...got in downtown cincinnati and the heavens opened and dumped on us (bad traffic to boot)....we'd seen enough rain and radar / forecast looked bad all the way to toledo so we ended up going back to our friend's place on the north side of town to dry out and try to warm up. got up this am at 6a and headed home...got here at 1230. just a hair over 2000 miles, was a good ride...vista-cruise, new seat, shield, and pegs made the ride relatively painless though would love to take that trip on a bigger bike...the bikes ran ok i unloaded, rinsed the pig down, and here i sit with a beer trying to get my ears to quit ringing/buzzing and preparing for the weekend ..saturday and sunday will be spent doing guess what? yup, motorcycle riding...son and i are going to meet a couple of friends up in st. helen and then gladwin to do a l'il trail biking. after this weekend i think i will take a little break from 2-wheels (at least til mid-next week) http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130711_134115_844_zpsb6154782.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130707_134141_302_zps167da038.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130708_130112_860_zps28e6e3fa.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130708_130043_417_zps80707449.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130708_111951_723_zps4bca91cd.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130708_130600_453_zpse91d3cd8.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/deelsgap_zps491d2f67.png http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130709_134204_056_zpsa078ac51.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130709_143457_017_zps0a93dfec.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/resort_zpsa1f04c1e.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/tree_zpsa04e9dac.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130710_114211_560_zps08841e74.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/dbikers/IMG_20130711_134234_228_zps3ca57361.jpg

  20. well, a friend helped me load it up around 1a this morning...got loaded just before the rain started. Needmore road at midnight is a scary place to be! Stayed at his place and am waiting for dealership to open to hopefully get some bearings. Thanks Ironmike and thank you Dave (and Barbie) for the call this am and the help. Will update with progress....
  21. Hey all...left flint mi tonight with a friend after work to hit the tail of the dragon (was supposed to be there tomorrow) and then onto see my bro in Charlotte, then up thru wv and Ohio and back home next Wednesday or so. Well, that isn't how it's gonna go...am sitting off of needmore rd on the north side of Dayton with a toasted rear wheel bearing...was hauling down the road at about 80 and it felt like there was a strange road surface...felt squirrelly. Went about another half mile and knew something was bad wrong... So, have a friend gonna pick me and the bike up tonight and take me to Fairfield where he lives...may need some help in the am...will check back in a bit...he's here and I gotta load the pig onto his truck
  22. hey snarly....i know this thread is old but i'd appreciated a bit of pilot jet guidance.... '96 RS stock except jome slightyy baffled jardine slash-cut slip ons.....seems to be plenty of power down low BUT coughs at a stop light (letting clutch out in 1st gear it just seems to blubbber until rolling and in the power band) any assistance welcomed... john
  23. hey dave...i'm from steubenville....do you know anyone there originally? where do you plan to ride?
  24. yep, what these guys said. The float for that cylinder stuck open and the cylinder filled full of gasoline (hydro-locked). I don't know the history of your bike (like has it fallen over, have you run sea foam or other fuel cleaner thru it) and im really not sure how it could flood with the petcock off(as you always sut it off) but either the float is just "sticky" or something is holding it open. somehow you need to verify that the flot is shutting off the fuel when it's up. again, like these guys said change your oil as soon as possible for sure
