  1. Which way does the shaft turn to engage reserve? I had 147 miles on my 84 and it sucked the last bit out. I didn't know that it even had a reserve valve, all my V65's had an automatic switch to engage reserve. I figured as well as it was engineered it was the same as those were. Thank God I was close to home, and my wife saved the day for me. I really appreciate this website, I have really learned a lot about these great bikes. I have owned a 1500 6cyl Gold Wing, and 2 Suzuki Cavalcades, but my 1200 is the best of them all!! I just wish it had reverse!! Thanks guys!
  2. I too am having a time trying to get a tire for the front of my Gen1 thru them. I ordered one on 6/4/12, they said it would be at my home on 6/7/12. Guess what? No tire, and no notification or apology either. I have tried to E-mail them twice, but no luck there either. I am going to call them later today to see what the deal is. They do have great prices, but if they are not going to back up what they say, I am done with them also. One thing is for sure, if enough people are wrongly done their "superstore" will have to change or go away.
  3. Where did you get the material, and how did you arrive at the correct bend? I think I will try to make it out of regular steel in order to keep costs down, I imagine the stock for yours costs a lot. I can always rattle can it every couple of years if need be. I can usually follow instructions, but have a hard time imagining it in my head (too many dead brain cells, I guess). No seriously I haven't ever been good at figuring up stuff in my head, like what radius to bend the tubing, how much to buy, ect. Maybe I can use your pics and with the help of my welding buddy we can figure it out. He has all kinds of welding steel, and some pipe too. I really appreciate your time in helping me out, this is a wonderful group of people whom I am glad to be a very small part of!! Jeff Boyter
  4. I have been searching for over an hour trying to find an exploded view of a trailer hitch to fit my 85 with light bar, could someone help me out? I have been up all night working on the beast, putting her back together in anticipitation of warm weather, and if I had an exploded view with a part list I have a good friend who could weld it up for me. Also where would be a good place to order a clutch kit and fork seals to complete my mechanical problems? If I can get her reliable and safe I will worry about looks and my broken fairing next winter if possible. Thats the problem of riding on a budget, a lot to do in order to have it as right as possible. I'm just thankful that I have tools and a little knowhow to keep my costs down. If not, I will have to part with her. I do appreciate any help as always. I talked to someone this AM about these things but he was unable to help. May God bless all and keep us safe is my prayer!!! 5. I'm sorry, I am not familiar with the diffrerent vendors yet to aquire parts. Please shoot me a web address or phone #. Thank you!!!
  6. Yes, I have already met Rooster (Gerald Cable). I used to see him in the mornings when I had a job, and looked at his Venture several times. Do you know any other place that might carry the clutch pak any cheaper than $120.00? If so I would appreciate a shout. As far as I know it has 69,000 miles, or at least that is what the guy told me that I bought it from (speedo crashed at 59,000). You can call me at 828-803-4184 if you wish to and let me know. Thanks for responding!
  7. Get this: The guy whom sold me my 1st Venture (I've had many other bikes) actually told me that it had a "passing gear" when I mentioned to him about the clutch slip! I had never heard of anything like this before, but he swore he found it on the internet after the guy he bought it from told him about it. Correct me if I am wrong, but these bikes are like the Suzuki Cavalcade, prone for an under engineered clutch that needs attention because of slippage when the throttle is twisted hard. I talked to a guy at PCW racing today who is putting together a complete clutch package for around $120.00 or so. Is this pretty much inline for a price? I measured a couple of friction disks, and they were borderline in spec, so I am going for the whole package (it has the 6 spring setup). I would appreciate any help you guys could give me, as I lost my job and my unemployment ran out sometime back. Thank you!!
