HAgon is the least expensive of the replacement shocks I think. I have replaced a couple and takes maybe an hour or so. Should be under $500 custom made to your specs when you call them. If someone gave you a shock I would maybe change it and ride. I sure wouldnt bother paying for one. Its a roll of the dice how long it will last. Some guys have got 110k out of one, others 20K.

Want to change fork oil...
djh3 replied to sho_greg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Remember you need to leave some air bleed space when installing the fluid. I used a syringe, a tube slightly smaller than the hole, so air can escape as you are introducing fluid into the fork. Just have to go slow. -
Eck: thanks for the idea on the battery. Thats a free try. Already have made the sun shade thing out of a card file box. Saw them @ bike week in Daytona last week too. More fancy, but do same thing, but $25 more than what I got invested. LOL Ragtop: I will keep you in mind. Sucks there aint a lot of options there if you want to upload your own maps.

After Monday I can look it up at work on our on line service manual. But I wouldnt think to change a shift solenoid you would have to pull a motor. Should be accessible externally. May have to get car on ramps or jack stands. WE have a program @ work called "all data". We lovingly call it "some data".It can kind of be like Haynes. Seems none of the manually now are as good as the old Motor or big book Chiltons.

I have used open office for years works well. There are sometimes a few quirks when you convert an open office sheet to a MS but it has been word doc's I think. Mainly formatting, so it will push a sentence over or something.

Yea I'm thinking maybe check out the connections on the engine block side of ground, the connection on the solenoid (if second gen) and then maybe the contacts on the ignition switch are getting pitted, again if second gen. Just thinking of poor contact points mainly.

Hmm looks like a set of nerf bars are in order.

My Garmin 765t I have had for several years has recently looked like the screen is dim. It sure is not as brite as it was. With the charge cable out it apears about same briteness as it was. When the cable is in it dims so low I cant even see the display. So is this something I can send it off to get fixed, or am I screwed and need to find a replacement. Whi h is not easy as I want one I can upload my personal routes on. The MC specific units are just silly expensive.

Yea me neither. I have not read what the latest excuse is for going up.

Removing intercom system from bike?
djh3 replied to Lug Nut's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Lowering the front end is a job. Not impossible, definitely worth it, but just takes time. Cheapest way to lower and improve handling. Sliding the forks up in the triple trees. -

ITs not to bad. Bike on a lift or jack. Remove front wheel as there are a couple bolts up in the fork under where the axle bolt goes you have to remove to drain the oil. I went up one weight on the fork oil. I think 5w is OEM, I went with 10w syn from cycle gear. Its a bit teadiuos getting the fluid in. I used a syringe to measure. -
Sorry for your loss Don. Will send some words up for you.

2000 RSTC fuel system issue
djh3 replied to Mark J's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I am pretty sure the RSV will gravity feed the carbs IF the tank is pretty full. Not sure how long, but the fuel will sort of flow enough to run somewhat. But if any load is put on it, there simply is not enough supply. Does his bike have the same crappy fuel pump? -
Had a GW guy tell me it was easier to change a tire than the air filter.

You know I didnt even see Yamaha's site until we were on the road and heading home. It was way over past most everything. The food area, Harley and Victory, Indian and some sort of Boss Hoss knock off thing. I dont know man, they must have some marketing Guru that knows everything. Dual sports appear to be the "in thing" now. I think the new Indian they just came out with may fill a gap they had. I forget what model they are calling it, but basically it looks to battle the street glide I think. Fairing, bags and cruise and nice amenities. No fringe crap, just the big honkin fender in front. LOL For the most part I think Yamaha is out of the touring market.

Gez once you got your handy meter there here is something else you can check for. Put meter on amps. Disconnect either battery lead. Put a meter lead on each side of battery wire that is disconnected. IE: one on wire, one on battery terminal. Key off and see if it is drawing any amps/voltage. This would be what they call "parasitic" drain, or battery goes dead when sitting in garage for awhile. I really have to lean towards the battery being suspect. For the reason mentioned of the gauges going wacko and the fact it is 3 years old. If you can, charge it up and then go by autozone or advance and have then load test the battery, see what the status is. If you need a new one I have bought 2 from Bohannon Battery up towards Jacksonville. Most under $100 shipped.

Look what followed me home yesterday.

When I was stationed in Oklahoma in the USAF we had to have a state inspection sticker and a base sticker. I never wanted to "perminatley" put them on most anything I owned. So I would find a place that I didnt mind and make a plate to fit the sticker and then bolt it to the forks. At that time I used fender brace bolts or something like that. The base sticker had to be able to bee seen straight ahead while approaching the gate guard. Inspection sticker I usually had mounted more hidden. Maybe fabricate a little plate and mount it to the right (or left) front fork reflector. -

New Version of the VentureMp3 SD card player available?
djh3 replied to videoarizona's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I had located an I simple unit for a cage I thought would work. Figured might have to rearange some pins to make it work on the RSV. But I traded prior to messing with it. I think it was a unit for a VW or Toyota, but I dont remember rite now. Go to their site and look to see if you can find one that uses a "c-bus" Thats what the CD changer plug is. -
Yup Steve K be the man. He has the goods on most lighting connectors.

I'm heading up to Daytona tomorrow for the day. Just to get out and ride.

How do you 2nd Gen riders swap out rear tires on the road?
djh3 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I do suppose if you were in BFE you would have to figure out something. Maybe set it on fire as a signal? Probably only us old school tube guys remember throwing baby powder in there to help keep tube from getting pinched too. I really dont miss that stuff. -
How do you 2nd Gen riders swap out rear tires on the road?
djh3 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I could see it being done IF. I had some way to break the bead that didnt include me standing on a 2x6 which is pretty much how I have had to do them in the past. Wont happen anymore as new bike has belt drive so axle goes all the way through. -
Doc said "no ridiing your motorcycle for a while",, good thing he didnt say
djh3 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Well Puc, if I read the subject line rite. Your in the clear. Doc said no riding "your" motorcycle, right? So it wasnt yours was it? LOL Just the racer in me.
