Sorry if got off task. I thought Honda had published a fix for the brake problem here a few months back. MAybe it is just a stop gap procedure. I agree with you any large manufacture is bound to have a run of poor production and design failures that just cant be played out in simulators. It just takes mile. Hd just seems to be more in the news with them lately I guess.

08 RSV - fuel pump check out
djh3 replied to BigBear's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Pull the hose off the pump on the side that goes to carbs. Sounds like you have done this once. Then get you some gas in a clean container, maybe a butter tub or something say a cup or so. Then shut petcock off and remove hose from the petcock. Put the hose from petcock in the container and turn key on and see if pump will pick up more fuel for longer. If it dont then could be a split hose somewhere and would act like a vacum leak. -
I agree on the narrowness being an issue. I have not measured it but its probably a tight squeeze getting a full dress bike in that opening also. I agree on the angle of attack being steep. Really need the door/ramp needs ro be a double ramp deal. If say 1;2 way up ramp there was a section tbat long it would cut the incline by about a third. The plus of the rear raml type is you can add stability cables and e en a screen room deal and make it more area.

WHY????? WHY would you even get on your bike this way?? I wont even hardly reposition mine in the garage with flip flops on. I just sort of glad he dont have a helmet on. Why would you want to protect that brain?

Same here. We had a pop up years ago. Was not bad for what we used it for then. but no bathroom in it and we ain't going there again. Not all toy haulers have a rear entry. I ran across a couple and really are nice. http://assets.interactrv.netdna-cdn.com/img.ashx?src=generalrv/unit_photo/286054_1.jpg&width=400&height=300&wm=/generalrv/images/watermark.png&modified=0820201403221130

i have to laugh. Last week or so I have read a few articles on how HD sales have fell off. they have lost XYZ amount of sales (boo hoo) but yet they have no plans of lowering their prices to compete with Victory, Indian Honda etc, because they feel their "quality" product wins out. Now after like 3 recalls on same vintage bikes, clutch, I think some kind of key or electrical issue and now saddle bags falling off maybe they need to rethink their strategy. I figure maybe the falling off bags is just the motor companies way of getting folks to stop in and buy a few more shirts, hats, underwear as theirs is now lost somewhere between where they started and the hotel they are headed to. MAN would that suck. Your cruising down the road and clunk your bag falls off. PLOOP it hits the road and explodes with all your clothes scattering. Maybe some safety wire is the fix. This toad on the other hand shouldnt have much problems. http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/InZDhIamXkjdWTAJQPz_.w--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NQ--/http://media.zenfs.com/en-us/homerun/us.autos.rideapart/e535a1493f517be174dfb1a5bcb87a49

Yea the sleep quarters are kind of funky in some. Even if larger 5th wheels. Some we have looked at the only open part of bed is a corner. So you have to crawl over the bed to get in it. Not for me.

Wisconsin valve adjustment help
djh3 replied to jeff2053's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It can be done without pulling carbs. I didnt even consider it. In order to check the valves and get covers off the collant will have to be draind and the tube thing removed. So by the time you do that might as well set valves to highest tolerance. -
I have debated the same thing. I would like to get a toy hauler so my problems are a bit different. The wife would like it so the storage area is not part of living quarters IE in the kitchen/livingroom. So that means it has to be about 38' on a bumper pull. Then when you go to the fith wheels the get heavy fast and I would have to get a 1 ton truck vs the 3/4 I already have. Bumper pull definatly you want the load hitch. Also slides as mentioned would definitely be in my shopping list. Like the man said even if its the couch that slides out. Its one less thing you have to walk around or step over.

First Oil Change on 06 RSV
djh3 replied to djadam's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I like the Shell Rotella. Either in the T6 Syn or the Dino oil. I think its 15w40. You may find it in the diesel side of oil section as it is a diesel oil but most importantly what ever oil you decide make sure it meets the JASMO spec. No oil with friction modifiers. The synthetic oils are less apt to go acidic when sitting a long time like over winter without being run. On the Purolator filters and also any of the auto filters. There has been noticed there was a change in the manufacturing and they will not fir anymore. See this thread for explanation on what's going on with the filters. -
Soon as the trade embargo is loosened up there is going to be some very rich Cubans. Rich boy Americanos are going to snap up all them old classics that are worth anything. Suprising to me, they have not got parts out of Mexico or south america. Thats where a majority of the replacement parts for those cars was made for a lot of years.

Where do I go from here??
djh3 replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wow. What did he use, tub and tile silicone? I mean I would use either red or blue rtv. And its not that terrible, but use some common sense. Argh. If you have to reuse the O-ring try heating it up in boiling water to make it a bit more pliable. I will normally put a lite coat to hold the o-ring. But that there looked silly. Maybe he fixed the water pump seal the same way. -
Why you standing on your head?

So lloks like we need to find a supplier that will print custom logos on coozies. Put the VR logo and site on it and sell them.
-
Yup thats the way I have checked them. I tried to run a race car a couple times without one. Thought was if its open it flows more water and stays cooler, right?? WRONG There has to be some restriction in there to slow the water down so it conducts the heat and then carries it out to radiator. But we use to knock the centers out or drill several holes in them centers. but we were not worried about cold start ups and warming up correctly either.

Sure wish I could take couple weekes to go ride. Have a good time and be safe. Hope the storms miss you.

HID works good for headlight. A couple fellows have tried the CREE headlights, but I don't recall a report back on how well they work. I added some small CREE LED driving lights down at the road bars that help at night in addition to the CREE LED passing light bulbs I installed.

Found this for a first gen Napa part # 156. I would say probably some of the import cars like honda should use something similar. Attributes:By-Pass Flange Diameter : 1.09" Depth from Flange : 1.37" Design : Bottom By-Pass Flange Diameter : 1.885" Height from Flange : .88" Jiggle Pin : No Temperature Range : 180 Deg Here is a napa page. Maybe you can find a cross for you.

Hey before you tear it apart. Swing by autozone. They have a cooling system pressure test set. You can presurize the system and see if the leak is up top maybe.
