I am not certain what 'plastics' you are referring to. Are you speaking of the 'lowers' that contain the 'knee vents' and act to protect your shins from the rain and wind? (Items #1 and #18). All the First Gen 'lowers' are the same. I'd be interested in seeing those that are different. If you are speaking of the lower fairing (lowers), some people, including myself, have removed them to allow clearance for our legs when using engine mounted highway pegs. Irrespective of what plastics you are referring to, all the plastic from the seat forward is interchangeable regardless of First Gen year. http://cdn.boats.net/diagram/yamaha/02/0290/0045.png

Getting rid of the CLASS
Prairiehammer replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
EBay. Check the posts above where I linked to a few different eBay offerings to accomplish the conversion from CLASS to manual. Really, it's just as simple as installing a Schrader valve in place of the compressor. Short hose for the front, same hose as from the compressor for the rear; just install a Schrader valve. No need to swap forks or shock. -
Getting rid of the CLASS

That is why I am confused. The First Generation Ventures are 1983-1993, while the Second Gen Ventures are 1999-2013. So when you said Second Gen, you meant First Gen, MKII? The MKII is 1986-1993. The 1983-1985 are MKI. Review my earlier post with pics. ALL First Gen (1983-1993), Standards (no CLASS) will look like the shock you described with the rubber bellows and like my pic of the 1983-1984 Standard. On those bikes, the spring is internal (inside that big shiny cylinder). ALL First Gen (1983-1993), Royale shocks have an external spring. The Second Gen (1999-2013) Ventures all have internal springs. Further, Second Gen shocks have a fork type lower mount (see the last pic in my previous post), as opposed to the rubber bushed lower mount on the First Gen (1983-1993). -

Doug, are you speaking of the shock that is on the bike now? A Second Gen shock assembly does not have an exposed spring as you previously described as visible on the shock that is on the bike. Did you mean to say that you think it's a First Gen stock assembly? The red spring is not stock in either case, while the shock is likely to be stock. A Second Gen shock assembly will not mount on a First Gen bike. -
I thought I was pretty well informed about the Ventures, but I'll plead ignorance: What is a 'Venture Deluxe'? "Upgrade to a Harley"...snort!

Paint Question
Prairiehammer replied to 515Rod's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Currently Color Rite does not have your desired color listed on their site, however, their color code for Dull Blue Cocktail was 5410L. Color Rite produced it at one time, but apparently is not currently produced. I suspect that given enough demand (and money) they have the capability of making another batch of 5410L. But, Jeff's comment is actually your most satisfactory choice anyway. The paint on your 25 year old motorcycle has aged and undoubtedly faded, so that even if you were to find Dull Blue Cocktail, the paint probably wouldn't match what you have. -
Well done! Since you were the first to correctly guess the PGO, do you have a motorcycle for us to guess? Meanwhile, I will post this for your edification:

Honda Mugen MRV1000 Hirotoshi, son of Soichiro Honda (the godfather of Honda) started the performance engine tuning and parts manufacturer Mugen in 1973. The MRV1000 was to be Mugen's attempt to leverage the popularity of British motorcycles. Sadly however, due to the high ticket price, producing the MRV1000 for public sale was not viable. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XfeL1_DyzIk/TnmtXDyIimI/AAAAAAAAHac/HyCp_428ZhQ/s640/mugen-mrv-1000-engine-2.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UbJh00QBAHQ/TnmtVv40jsI/AAAAAAAAHaQ/wWDlQr-gR0E/s640/603852_anOfc2SH_c.jpghttp://www.caferacer.com.pl/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/mugen-mrv-1000-2.jpg Check out the fake 'drum' brake. custom Vincent? Norvin?

Been rather slow with answers on this thread; so, I'll give a hint. The company is Asian and is a major producer of scooters. This particular bike has a 1600cc V-Twin.

Getting rid of the CLASS
Prairiehammer replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
From your description, your rear shock has at the very least an aftermarket (possibly Progressive®) rear spring. It may have a Progressive® shock as well. Here is a pic of an OEM Venture shock with an unknown aftermarket spring: Only you can tell us that. Does it have an air hose connected to it? I do know, if you have a Progressive® rear shock, that it will not be an air assisted shock. Mechanical spring pre-load is all Progressive® offers for the Venture. Follows is a pic of a Progressive® rear shock for a MKII: Just to clarify: the 1983 Standard Venture shock has an internal spring (you can't see the spring when you lift the rubber boot), however, the 1983 and on Royale has an exposed external spring. Here is a pic of a 1983/1984 Standard shock with the rubber boot removed for illustration: And here is a 1984 Royale OEM shock: BTW: As far as I know (I am no Second Gen expert), all the OEM shocks for the Second Gen have an internal spring; you can't see the spring, even if you lift the rubber 'accordion' boot (similar to the early Standard shocks). Here is a pic of a Second Gen shock: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTE5NFgxNjAw/z/x8oAAOxy0bRTDQnn/$_57.JPG -
No. Substantially different mounting. This is a Markland hitch for the 1986-1993: And this is a Markland hitch for a 1983-1985 (that big black square is a mud flap):

Here's a clue: Oh, I forgot the most important clue: it is French. No surprise there, I'll bet. The Franco are so weird when it comes to wheeled machines.

Front fork conversion
Prairiehammer replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Since you only need to remove, from the right fork air collar, the one hose that comes from the compressor/valve assembly and substitute the short hose with the Schrader valve, all the suggested eBay items will suffice, albeit collars and connecting hose between the collars will be excess for your immediate needs and will not have to replaced or changed. For half the price of the one hose alone, I'd spend twelve dollars and buy the last cited assembly. Just use the hose that contains the Schrader and file the rest of the parts. -
Resistance...
Prairiehammer replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think Doug's complaint about the fiche pictures is valid. ALL the Venture (1983-2011) starter motor micro fiche IMAGES are the same. All show just two brushes, although the parts list does reflect four brushes, but the pics show just two brushes. -
Front fork conversion
Prairiehammer replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You are talking about converting the front forks from CLASS air supplied to a Schrader supplied air? If so, simply obtain the hose from a Standard Venture (all years) that goes from the right air collar to the upper tree mount next to the ignition switch. Remove the air line from the compressor valve assembly that goes to the right fork air collar and install the short hose with the Schrader valve. Here is a pic of the hose you need, complete with Schrader valve: The above hose is available on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-1984-83-84-Yamaha-Venture-XVZ12-TK-XVZ-1200-Front-Fork-Air-Hose-Line-2-/190953436135?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AVenture&hash=item2c75b633e7&vxp=mtr Here is a pic of the complete fork air assembly with collars and hoses: This assembly is available on eBay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-Yamaha-Venture-XVZ12-Fork-Tube-Air-Joints-/321219686742?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4aca2f7156&vxp=mtr Here is a front fork air assembly with Schrader and collars and hoses for just $12! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-1993-Yamaha-Venture-Royale-XVZ12-XVZ13-Front-Fork-Air-Joints-/221245719956?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item338345c594&vxp=mtr -
Not many pics out there for this. Sorry about the size and quality.
