I have used TurboCad Professional since 1999. It is not a free download, but you can find sealed CD's for the older versions on eBay for as little as $5.00. There is a pretty steep learning curve to utilize the full capabilities of TurboCad Professional, but TurboCad offers "Designer 2D", a simpler less capable version. http://www.turbocad.com/

Oil change related question
Prairiehammer replied to dfwthompson's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had a RIVCO spin on adapter on my '90 and I want one for my '91, but RIVCO doesn't sell them for the VR any longer. I wish the guy who salvaged my '90 would answer my email inquiries about the RIVCO from my old bike. He could make some more money... -
Were those Spyder RT Limiteds 2014 models (with the 1300cc triple)?

1st Gen Brake Line Question
Prairiehammer replied to 86er's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Todd, that "junction block" is called the metering valve by Yamaha. I've never heard of a leak from it internally before, but it obviously can happen. I don't think the rubber internals are available separately from the metering valve assembly, nor is the metering valve assembly available. Since ordinarily, the metering valve seems to be trouble free, I would get a used one. Or delink the brakes, whereupon, the metering valve is not needed. -
That's OK, Gary. From my OP: Brian, I agree. My research indicates that heat is effective for decomposing epoxy. The trick is to heat the epoxy sufficiently without damaging the grip or the throttle tube.
-
My Venture is equipped with Hot Grips™ heated grips. The right grip is not fully installed onto the throttle tube, leaving it approximately three-eighths shy of the switch housing. This is unsightly and annoying, because of the increased reach to the various switches, especially the cruise control button. According to Hot Grip, the grip should have been installed with a slow set epoxy. There is some epoxy appearing residue on the end of the grip closest to the switch housing. How would one remove the grip without damaging the grip or the throttle tube?

Bob, most of the hitches I've seen for the MKII are bolted to the bike's frame at the muffler mount. Like this:

Bob, Does the one you have look like this?

When you get to the drop down menu for "state", select the blank spot above AK (Alaska). Hover your cursor over the blank spot, notice it is highlighted and then click this highlighted blank spot. Then, there will be no state selected. -
Dingy is the current V-Max guru on here and will prolly speak up to correct me, but it is my understanding that virtually everything from the heads down are the same as a First Gen Venture. Crankcase, crankcase covers, engine and transmission internals. Color is different, but I think the parts are interchangeable. Correct, Dingy?

MKII Muffler Removal ?
Prairiehammer replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes, Brian it is that simple; loosen the clamp and remove the bolt that fastens the muffler to the frame. Depending on the orientation of the clamp, the clamp bolt may be difficult to get a wrench onto fully. Once the clamp is loosened and the frame mounting bolt removed, vigorous pulling, twisting and wiggling will finally pull the muffler from the collector. The thick tubular muffler to collector gasket may come off with the muffler or it may remain on the collector stub. -
Just a FYI: there a couple items missing from the pictured hitch that are required for properly mounting to a MKI. The two short "tangs" are to be bolted to the crash bars utilizing a "clamp". The clamps look like this: There are a pair on eBay right now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400501250098?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Here is a pic of the Markland hitch instructions for mounting to a MKI. Bob the OP is offering a Markland trailer hitch for a MKI. You have a 1983-1985 in addition to your '87?

"Gasket" 26H-23163-00-00
Prairiehammer replied to Prairiehammer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thank you, Gary. I do appreciate that. Since the one I found is rather deformed, would you send me two? You have my address, I presume. -
"Gasket" 26H-23163-00-00
Prairiehammer replied to Prairiehammer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for the confirmation, Carl. It is what I suspected. The PO had mentioned that the fork seals had been replaced; apparently, the spacers slid off unnoticed when the forks were removed. My guess is, he found one (after the forks were re-installed) and put it under the mat of the trunk. God only knows where the other spacer ended up. -

That is what I surmised, Gary. Whomever had the forks off before did not use these spacers upon reassembly. So, apparently the spacers/"gaskets" (that is Yamaha's terminology) are to simplify reassembly, by ensuring that the air joints and triple tree are properly arranged? Thanks. -
Planning a repaint

Here are some ideas: -
What purpose does the "gasket, PN# 26H-23163-00-00" serve? Item #75 on the attached 'fiche view. I found one in the trunk and upon examination of the forks, I see that neither fork tube has this "gasket" installed. This rubber piece is "castellated" so I don't see how it can act as a seal. The CLASS does not lose air and functions fine (so far). Is it meant as a spacer? I do note that the right fork tube is projecting above the upper triple tree more than the left. Is the gasket supposed to be installed so this does not happen? What is the consequence of one inner fork tube projecting above the upper triple tree more than the other. There seems to be about 2-3 mm difference in projection between right and left tubes. Ah! the trials and tribulations of a used Venture. I wish I had more history on the maintenance performed on this bike. I was so terribly "spoiled" with the 1990 as the second owner of an unmolested Venture. (This "gasket" issue is but one of many irritations, so far.)

By the time the MD rolls around, Don's boat (do we have a name for it yet?) will be in need of some "expert" maintenance. Perhaps, a "road" test in the pond when the maintenance is done. We could use one of the First Gens to pull it out of the pond when the test is over.

Jim, regarding the boat building (get it? Thread Drift), are you using epoxy to encapsulate the wood? West Systems? Eighth inch luan? How well does that stand up to beaching or even just stepping into the hull while floating? Do you use a skeg and/or solid wood chines on the pirogue?
-
Is yours missing? Or do you just feel it needs replaced? I don't think there is any moving parts, though there is an arrow to indicate proper orientation. The arrow should point toward the "Boost Sensor" (MAP). I am not certain, but I believe this is the part (#11): http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1991/VENTURE%20ROYALE%20-%20XVZ1300DBC/AIR%20FILTER/parts.html 41R-14489-00-00 NOZZLE

The "coupling" is OEM. It appears to be a restriction meant to dampen the vacuum pulses from #2 intake.
-
Nice! Did you build that? I've been entertaining thoughts of building wooden boats for many years. I have yet to fulfill the dream. One (of several) reason (excuse) is that, currently my shop intended for wood working/boat building, is occupied with Ventures in various states of repair. Hogging much valuable space meant for boat building.

If you are going to buy another torque wrench, buy a torque wrench with inch/pound calibration rather than foot/pound. The specified 5.8ft/lb is at the low end of the range for most foot/pound calibrated torque wrenches. Calibration, especially on the cheap torque wrenches, is probably inaccurate at the extremes of their intended range. The specified torque of 5.8 foot pounds is equal to 69.6 inch/pounds.
