  1. You forgot the one thing that set this train wreck in motion... Road Glide. Luv ya Don, I'd swap/sell my 1st gen for a RG in a heartbeat too... -Andrew
  2. So, how many riding hours have you wasted just standing there trying to decide which bike to take?!?!? That is a nice pair, the 1st gen looks so classy painted like that. -Andrew
  3. Mine holds up on smooth highways pretty well. The difference between yours and mine is that you just have a loop that can relax. I wrapped the coat hanger around the grip, then twisted it like a twist tie on a loaf of bread. I could then twist a little tighter to get a better grip or untwist if it was too tight. It doesn't loosen up at all, it's just bumps that get it to slip, and not all that much. The rubber vacuum line just makes it look more "finished" and not just a piece of twisted wire. -Andrew
  4. Answer: Neither. It starts with a pushbutton after turning the key to "run". Duh. -Andrew
  5. Made mine out of a wire coat hanger and a scrap of vacuum line over it- $0 It's nice for relaxing your grip for a minute or so. Over bumps it does slip, plus when not in use it sticks up. I'd like a better one, but for free, I'm running it til I get my CC. -Andrew
  6. One, two, three, four, five? That's the same combination I have on my luggage... -Andrew
  7. I've been trying to look into this, but no one wants to talk about it. Looking for a specific tire size that I can order, brand, and maybe even a best price. And who would mount it (doubtful a regular dealer would mount it). -Andrew
  8. Went there last Sat, first time there, it was alright but I don't know what I was expecting, for me there wasn't any WOW. Altho I did sit on most of the Star bikes, a few Indians, Victorys, Hardleys. Most of the leathers seemed to be on sale from a inflated original price, so no real bargains (except on some size "S" stuff, what biker fits into a size "S"?!?!? -Andrew
  9. Here's a pic when I did the grease fittings on my swing arm ('83). They are laid out in the approx position they go on. Hope this helps a little. -Andrew
  10. Here in Wisconsin we don't just settle for Dairy Queen... We've got Leon's, Culvers, Oscars, Kopps, Gillies, Nite Owl, etc. to keep us satisfied. And that's just a few in the Milwaukee area alone. -Andrew
  11. Just let us know when, we'll escort you there. Bunch of us in the area and we don't need much of an excuse to get ice cream... -Andrew
  12. I know I'm not old, but now the "easy listening" music in elevators is from my younger years... -Andrew
  13. '83 has unique graphics on their speedo & tach vs. later years, but they interchange and show the correct speed. -Andrew
  14. Bob, you forgot to break it up for '83 MK1 vs '84/85 MK1... I've got a few spares so I'll let someone else grab the deal. -Andrew
  15. Funny story. I bought my van off craigslist, met the guy at his place, checked it over, test drove it, agreed on the price, got the title, then left. About a mile away, I realized I still had the cash in my pocket. Whipped around and started heading back and met him halfway back. He had called his girlfriend, and when she asked about the money, he realized he didn't get paid. Thankfully he wasn't upset, just relieved. That was a big D'oh moment! I haven't had any major issues yet, but I choose my locations and times carefully. The worst things that have happened is my email got put on a spam list (have a separate burner email addy for e-bay/craigslist/misc anyways) and spending money on more junk I don't really need... -Andrew
  16. So what happens (to you) when you lock up the brake?!? -Andrew
  17. Funny thing is, my wife & I text each other every day, so a text like that would be a non-issue for me. However, if she calls me at work, the first things that come to mind are "What's wrong with the van?" followed by "Is anyone hurt?". So whenever she calls, she always says "Nothing's wrong, a) just needed an immediate answer or b) it would've been too long/hard to text", unless there is really is something wrong with the van... -Andrew
  18. There is a serial number posted here somewhere that in '85 the engines made AFTER that number were fixed, second gear-wise. '83-'85 were 1200cc, '86 up are 1300. Plus what MiCarl said. If you're getting just the '90 engine, you'd probably have to swap in your ignition parts to work. Also, is yours a '83 or a '84? Danged first year '83 has a lot of year-specific parts as compared to a '84. -Andrew
  19. On/Off on my '83 with no notch in the plastic. Oh, and my lever is broken off, so I can't really switch it at all. So what's the point in it?!? -Andrew
  20. My wife has one, but she only uses it on bad days. She feels guilty but on those bad days, a long walk thru the parking lot would do her in, let alone going thru the store. If I'm driving her, I'll drop her off at the door and park in a normal spot. The only time she uses it on a regular basis is at the college she goes to (adult student), since parking is at a premium and the only open spots usually are the handicap ones. I will say this, since my wife got her tag, you start to realize that altho there are healthy & normal people using a family member's tag wrongly, there are those who might look able body but the reality is they are suffering but it doesn't show. Unless you are their Dr, you don't know what their ailment is and you shouldn't judge them. I will get that app for those people who pull in those spots w/o tags/plates tho. -Andrew
  21. Marking it down on the brand new calendar in the kitchen, in hopes it doesn't get bumped. Just a half-year away... -Andrew
  22. Having been to Camp Orlin the last few years, I can attest to it being: 1) Rustic (keeps out the riff raff HUGE RVer's that cocoon inside their vehicle). 2) Extremely friendly hosts. 3) Excellent tour-guided rides thru beautiful S.W. WI. 4) Very good workshop area for light maint or just BSing. 5) NO POND MONSTERS! 6) Goats available for solo riders (right, Biiiillllllllyyyyyy?) 7) Occasional bonfires. 8) Can have too much fun on even 30% chance of rain days. -They call me Andrew
  23. Regarding the costs of membership here, I'm torn between how much I save with repair tips vs. the I've spent going to M&E, MD, IR, etc. plus all the farkles that I've added to the bike because of this place. :rotf: -Andrew
  24. Hey Steve, what did you use to make filler panels when you modified the fairing? Maybe a few more pics of the fairing area that was modded? I'm thinking of a "new" type of fairing area too. -Andrew
  25. The vacuum tubes need to warm up? Anything other than a bad connection somewhere, a replacement radio would most likely be the easiest (and cheapest) fix. -Andrew
