Comeon Jeff, you know politics aren't allowed on this site.... Although, had they been a little more conservative...

1. Measure the lowest portion on your bike under engine. 2. Measure from center of front tire to center of back tire (say 64). Divide 64 by 2 giving 32. 3. Go to the top end of your ramp and mark the 32" in the trailer and mark 32" on the ramp with tape 4. Take a straight 2x4 at least 64" and mark the center and 32" from center on both sides. 5. Then place center of the 2 x 4 at top of ramp and adjust till you have an equal distance at both ends (two people works better) 5. If this distance isnt at least 1" smaller than the lowest portion of your bike, you need to decrease angle. if your ramps angle need to be lessened you will have to: A. place something under bottom of ramp B. place the rear wheels of your trailer at the bottom of a slanted driveway C. raise the front of your trailer with the trailer jack (good for a couple inches) or a combination of all three... wARNING: MUST BE HITCHED TO VEHCLE AT ALL TIMES! You could also use a protractor and determine the maximum degree allowable: using the above dimensions draw a 64" line on concrete floor. measure vertically 9" from center and draw line(perpendicular to first line). then draw a line from top of the 9" line to each end of the horizontal 64" line. take protractor and set to the angle on top. place protractor on trailer and hold against ramp. if the ramp is at a steeper angle (see lessen ramp angle) I dont have my bike or i could actually measure the distances and heights, and, calculate the max angle,,, Its in the shop getting a new rear shock... athough there may be a height difference between a 1st gen and a 2nd gen... P.S. the back of my toy hauler has a swing down ramp probably 6'H x 5'W and cant be any thicker than 1 1/2" Wonder if they just glued (2) pieces of 3/4" plywood together??? After all plywood is strongr than a standard board of the same thickness...

they're sucking you in with that 50 percent off coupon, eh?

When you back a bike down a ramp... I always put in first gear and turn engine off. that way you have essentially both a front brake and a rear brake at your disposal (just let the clutch out) . 24" high is pretty high to be loading a 900 lb. bike... BE CAREFUL!

I always suggest getting in at least 3 mos to 1 year before hauling passengers. If your going do something stupid, it will probbly occur in the first 90 days... statistically speaking. IMHO

I deleted the origional message I had this morning but felt the need to share my thoughts. We are spending a lot of time discussing where to get "this" or "that". Perhaps, just perhaps, we should individually take a couple of minutes to compose a letter of what we are experiencing and what we would like to see to our elected officials do about it. I won't share my opinion, but, I'm pretty sure you all know where I stand on this. Please take the time and send the president/vice president, senators, representatives, and governors the same short letter. It's as simple as cut and paste. http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml I did.

If the people formed lines at our state capitols maybe some of our elected officials would wise up. This is ridiculous........ Years ago there was talk that they could make gun powder that had a limited shelf life... Wonder if thats in the pipe so to speak...

the larger the wheels the easier to push on uneven surfaces. I've got a sloped garage floor. Already know what happens when i put my lincoln welder +450 lbs on it as it has 4" wheels. It likes to seek the lowest area...LOL

CaptainJoe replied to Barrycuda's topic in Watering Hole
I think it would be fun to take his course... that being said, i would definately have to use use the garden hose on the crash bar trick before attempting it. -

Would I buy another? Absolutely not! At the rate I'm going, 5,000 miles per year, This bike will last me the rest of my life.... The engine if you take care of it will easily take me to 200,000 mi..... So that gives me another 37 years... um... that would make me 91...then I'd probably have to trike it:confused24: Perfect bike for me. That being said, will either keep my 650 vstar or perhaps a buy a 650 enduro to putt around on the dirt and gravel roads... as I like to ride back roads looking for fishing holes and abandoned JD 440 bulldozers.

:confused24:whats a Johnny Cash venture? a Midnight perhaps? I haul a 1000 lb jet ski on one, but i beefed up the tongue with 2x2x1/4" stock and put a 2" hitch on it. The 12" wheels are just fine. My only comlplaint about the rig is you cannot find a set of bearing buddies to fit.. I welded 1/16 weve to the top to save on weight. Most use plywood... I'd go 3/4" exterior and you should be alright.

I've never seen a sidewall that thick? maybe 1/4" certainly not over 3/8".... the tread on the other hand is probably in the 5/8" to 3/4" range... personally wouldn't ride on a cracked tire... call me a wuss, but a flat on either end of a bike is no fun. trike probably wouldn't steer to good either... better to err on the safe side...

Jeff - they deducted $197.47 from my pay pal. So it's on the way. Go ahead and sell.... there are others on here that have 650s, so you shouldn't have to wait to long... For folks that need one see below. The final drive (sold complete only) will set you back over $600 or more new. A used xv650 final drive on ebay have gone for around $400 for the past 2 years running. from an old article, heres the fix for a xv650 with stripped splines.... using a Virago XV 535 final drive. http://WWW.650ccnd.com Select: How To's Rear drive swap from Virago 535 check and grease the bearing while your in there...

Anyone have a xv535 parts bike with a good final drive? Thought I had one from ebay (Great Britan) for $70 and then was informed it would be $192.50 with shipping.. To which I promptly replied Hell No! It's getting bad folks... p.s. I need to make some adjustments after reading the book AFTERSHOCKS.... Update.---- went back and checked shipping and its over $100 nto ship and insure a part from england . I told the guy, since i bought the part, to go ahead and i'll eat the shipping. this was before Jeff replied to me. No wonder the Chinese are Kicking our collective asses........... end update.-----
