  1. Does anybody have any experience with (accidentaly) putting E-85 in their tank?I ride an 89 VR,and up here in Frozen Northern Minnesota there's a state mandate coming to have all gas with 20 percent ethanol by 2012.May or may not still have the ol' 89 by then, who knows, but if I dont I'll still be riding something,Lord willing. But my question is about what will this ethanol do to our old bikes? Are we gonna be SOL?Or are we all gonna have to move south,so we can ride year around? Snowing and 15 degrees here right now,so that doesnt sound too bad!
  2. Yeah, very tempting and not too far from me,about 250 miles.Anyone know how much $$$this would take to fix up?Ballpark? Winter's coming, lots of wrench time available soon!!!
  3. Check out my bike lift!Works good, but it cost a little more than a Sears one! Also check out the reason for the lift, that being an Avon rear tire with about 16000 miles on it!This was too close for comfort,we had just been on a trip out west a couple weeks before. So it's maintainance time for me this week.
  4. My 89 has had a small leak in that area for a few years.I tried to fix it on the cheap by using some Permatex on the valve cover gaskets when I had it apart to check valve clearance this past winter. However,it didnt work very well,it's leaking more than ever out of the rear gasket.Long story short I'll be replacing the valve cover gaskets real soon,I hate oil leaks!
  5. What kind of prep work are we talking about here? Now that it's almost winter "up Nort" I have kicked around the idea of giving the old bike a paint job.Would I have to sand off all the old paint down to the plastic? What kind of plastic is this anyway?I've got most of the fairing apart now to replace throttle cables, seems like it would be a good time to take the plunge.Oh yeah, what's the fastest color???!!!
  6. I have a starter out of an 89 VR that I would sell,it worked fine but I replaced it and my starter cables to fix my hot start problem. However I think the cables would have cured the problem completely.bike only had 50000 miles on it when I replaced the starter,so should still be in fine shape.$50.00 plus shipping?Does that sound like the going rate these days?give me a email if you are interested. Thanks RandyCH
